The reason for the change has been to avoid any confusion with the popular flash game named Slender.

A number of people had questioned if Slender Source was being worked on by the creator of the original Slender flash game. Slender: Source is a totally separate project. The name change also identifies with the game more closely according to Ethereal Entertainment.''
