A man wants a haircut. He gets in a limo and proceeds towards that goal. With that being the opening of Cosmopolis, you would think that the film itself would lend to some brevity. Au contraire, because with David Cronenberg at the helm of translating Don DeLillo’s novel; we are instead treated to an extremely dense and challenging experience. Eric Packer (Robert Pattison) is our tour-guide in this absurdly satirical and darkly comedic journey through the streets of Manhattan. Eric is a 28 year old billionaire with a calm and cold demeanor, very rarely exposing emotions at decibel levels higher than that. His limo is his throne, sitting at the back handling corporate affairs with new technology, taking meetings with various work and play associates, and even having a physical.
