Is the Wii U Already Irrelevant?

I've owned a Nintendo console since the days of the Famicom. Back then the words “video game” might as well have not even existed. We just “played Nintendo”. Nintendo reigned as the king of the home video gaming console. Nintendo had excellent first party games as well as the support of all of the 3rd party developers and publishers. Sadly, the same cannot be said today. Nintendo’s grip on the proverbial hardcore gaming market has weakened since the days of the GameCube. And in an unsurprising path forward, I don’t think the Wii U will change things over the long haul.
