Silicon Studio’s New Engine Already Runs on PS4 at 30 FPS in 1080p, and It Looks Fantastic

Last week DualShockers visited Silicon Studio’s headquarters in Tokyo, and had an extensive chat with the Japanese developer’s Software Engineers about their new rendering engine Mizuchi, discovering that it already runs on PS4, and definitely well too.

Or you can get a 350 dollar video card like the gtx 970 and get 1080p at +60 frames. 4k is great but not particularly a necessity to gamers.

I still play it every now and then. Besides Demon's Souls, it's actually my favorite game of the 7th generation. Got it since launch too. I am that much of a die hard.

I'm rocking a 780 Ti in my rig, too. It's incredible that the PS4 is pushing out comparable graphics. What kind of processor did they use in the PC though?

They didn't say, but it was rather inconsequential as it's a rendering engine, and it runs almost fully on the GPU.

Wait a minute...

'Software Engineers Sei Imai and Steven Tsang explained that the engine already runs on PS4 at 30 frames per second in 1080p. The original demo on PC ran at 60 frames per second on a system equipped with a Nvidia GTX 780 Ti video card.

Some of the quality features weren’t set at the absolute highest to achieve that frame rate on PS4, but the implementation is being continuously optimized so that efficiency can be increased, and with it the visual quality as well.'

How is that comparable?

'The original demo on PC ran at 60 frames per second'

and...

'the engine already runs on PS4 at 30 frames per second'

and....

'Some of the quality features weren’t set at the absolute highest to achieve that frame rate on PS4'

So they had to scale back to make it 30 fps. Just to make it 30fps.

That's not equally comparable, that's half the framerate with settings turned down to achieve 30fps.

That 780ti is still far better at doing its job.

"comparable" and "identical" aren't the same thing. And the drop in visual quality is minimal.

And how much is your 780ti, cpu, storage, etc... Perhaps in a performance per dollar way it is comparable, perhaps not, I dont know. I doubt you do either.

ps4 does have 60fps games including gamesl like project cars and even last of us, some games that could be 60fps seem to be locked for parity aka alien isolation seeing as those games run the same framerate and resolution as x1 version, it seems to be a cpu problem because several devs have said the cpu bottlenecks it already hopefully gpu compute that will be used in the future will help the cpu seeing as ps4s gpu and cpu share the same memory

The engine is impressive, but I did notice some frame drops and that was just on the PC version, can't wait to see what they can do on PS4.
