The end of the console war - Introducing the PLAYBOX

Ed Zarick may have just ended the console war by combining the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 into one unit. You could enjoy the best of both world with the flip of a switch, but unfortunately this is just a prototype.

plut0nash3398d ago

Must be costing a small fortune.

ifistbrowni3397d ago

I dont see the point in the console unless it was like $500-$600

Why not just buy both consoles? Kind of a pointless "invention" in my opinion.

BC_Master_Haze3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

It's also a mobile unit, so I think it would be worth more than 600 dollars. 800 or less, possibly 900 depending on the display, and it would STILL be a deal. 2 consoles, mobile, for 600 dollars would be too good to be true, I really don't see why anyone would buy both if this were 600

Sgt_Slaughter3397d ago

Custom consoles/portables go for BIG BUCKS.

It's mainly due to the amount of labor that goes into making one of these units, but there is always a clamor for them so they make hella profit.

I expect this to go for at least $1,000.

end of console war? no.. war is all i know, without war i dont know what im suppose to do with my life, you all are the only family i have.. i've seen things

^Only the dead have seen the end of War...

IceKoldKilla3397d ago

Yeah there was a guy years ago that created a laptop version of the PS3 and Xbox 360. I think the Wii as well. Those were expensive. Having both will cost more than $1000. Separately they would cost $800-$900 so why would his work of taking them apart, squeezing it into one laptop with screen + have it all work, be worth only $100? I'd ask for more unless I know I'll sell a bunch. The guy that did the last-gen ones was called i think benheck or something. He's on YouTube. Those were really well made with keyboard and speakers.

IceKoldKilla3397d ago

So it went from prices to talking about war... XD Man I love when people comment funny stuff on here. Tired of trolls, bullshit and dumb arguments.

ifistbrowni3396d ago

Guys, i realize that the hybrid console will not cost less, that was my point... If you're going to pay $1000+ for both the consoles, why not just buy them both separately, for cheaper?

I have both consoles, maybe that's why I find no point in this hybrid. If you feel it's worth over paying for a product because it's "neat" then have at it. I have a portable ps4, it's called ps vita remote play.

I dont know the logistics of this console, but for it to be truly 'portable" it would have to run on a battery (again, not sure if it does). If it requires an outlet, it again brings me back to the same point, what is the point? Buy an xb1 and ps4 separately and save your money.

It was always possible to do something like this, after all it really is an engineering problem. It is possible to do this with the PS3, Wii/WiiU and Xbox360 or any other combination.

The main reason you will never see a commercial implementation is that the engineering is just merging already commercial products so it would be cheaper just to buy each product separately.

Trying to sell this would be a legal nightmare as both Microsoft and Sony would join forces and sue any manufacturer to Oblivion.

@ifistbrowni

You are dead right. Good engineering concept but rather pointless.

Sillicur3398d ago

Wow hahah, fantastic, guess it was only a matter of time. PC still best though :)

Snookies123397d ago

Actually, best depends on what you're looking for. Coming from a PC gamer. I just enjoy gaming with friends, whether it's on X1, PS4, Wii U, or LAN parties. Hardware doesn't mean much of anything if you don't have a lot of games that interest you. :]

NuggetsOfGod3397d ago (Edited 3397d ago )

Seeing 90% are multiplatform it's hard to not find games that Interest u.

:]

Plus great pc exclusives like this.

https://m.youtube.com/watch...

And black desert.
I care very little about my friends interest in cod lol

It's harder to keep some friends without constantly following what they do ugh rather play online and friends who don't game.

It's all about movies now.

The idea of friend coming over to play was appealing when I was a teen.
Sometimes thy want to game and i just want sleep lol

I like playing what I want when I want without friend influence.

I am just weird like that but I am happy!! Lol

Maybe being an only child raising a mom taught me to have fun on my own. The company of others is not really required.

IceKoldKilla3397d ago

You're one of the few smart ones that comment on N4G. Most people argue over power but if teams/studios don't create great games, what's the point? We're lucky to have 3 companies creating really good and something unique games. That way we have choice and if you like them all, you can buy it all (assuming you have money...which I don't). Can't wait for more exclusives this year and in the years to come! So awesome to be a gamer now!

DesVader3397d ago

That's really cool. If you bi-console-curious or you cannot decide, this is the answer :P

MajorGecko3397d ago

I'm bi-console and I am offended by your comment

BC_Master_Haze3397d ago

We should all join the SBA. The straig.. Er.. Single-console bi-console alliance :D

Blank3397d ago

Wait your bi? Damn am I the only tri-console curious?? I cant help but to get around.

Roccetarius3397d ago

Console wars will always exists, considering the media fueled the fire knowingly.

Games That Were Bad on Release, But Are Now Great

BLG writes, "Some of the most popular games have had a rough start, with some of them being downright unplayable.

Despite that, developers have managed to turn it around for them and make their game worth playing. Here are some games that had a rough start but were pretty great."

Good list..hoped to see Street Fighter 5 there..and it is.

Vits9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Sea of Thieves... I'm not disagreeing that the game has improved in terms of content. But I feel that the most significant change between now and its release is actually the public perception. Nowadays, most people are aware that the game is a multiplayer PvP-focused experience first and foremost, and not "Black Flag made by Rare". Consequently, people dismissing the whole experience because the single-player aspect is lacking or the story is plain are much less common.

darthv727h ago

Several years ago, i submitted an idea to Rare that would change up the mechanics of battling opponents in the game. whereby if you died in battle, you turned into a skeleton warrior and had to fight your way back to the land of the living. It was an interesting twist on respawning and would allow the player to experience both sides of a battle.

I keep hoping to see something like that get added to the game.

Kaii9h ago

They consider FO 76 & ME Andromeda to be great now 🤭

anast6h ago

Every game in the last 2 decades...

INMATEofARKHAM3h ago

It's sad that this quick retort is more often than not true... The industry's acceptance of release and patch has gone too far.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "It seems reasonable to suggest most people have a preferred takeaway establishment. The one that you always find yourself coming back to, much to your waistline’s despair. Should that takeaway temporarily close, you’ll doubtlessly have to expand horizons and go elsewhere. Sure, the food from a second choice might be palatable, but it’s never the same, lacking in zest. This analogy can be applied to the 3D Realms published WRATH. It’s powered by a modified version of the Quake engine, and even plays like ID’s masterful shooter at times, but it’s lacking that all important crunchiness. It isn’t completely soggy, but there’s not much bite either."
