Lead writer Matt Turner and I (leon) recently discussed some of the more difficult points presented by Assassin’s Creed 3′s period and setting. These include issues such as taking sides in a USA vs England conflict and the last days of slavery, something Turner refers to as "a very current dialogue”.
Non-playable characters in certain games are meme material, thanks to their foolish behavior. These are the big-budget games with the dumbest NPCs.
Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩
Every Bethesda game and Every Halo game. This list needed to have Cyberpunk somewhere.
Here are the most peaceful areas in games that are otherwise quite violent, offering players respite from chaos in the game world.
My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.
Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.
The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.
With the recent reveal of Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the promise that the series will return to its roots, there hasn’t been a better time to get stuck into Assassin’s Creed’s back catalog, whether it’s replaying an old favorite or getting lost in previously looked-over classic.
I really enjoyed Assassins Creed 3. My only complaint was that I didn’t enjoy when I had to switch from Connor to Desmond. It’s a personal preference, but Connor’s story was just more fun for me.
On a side note, Black flag was the most enjoyable of the AC games I played.
". . .last days of slavery. . ."
Perhaps that was mistyped?
Anyway, I'm glad to hear Ubi's taking these head on, but I'll be pissed if they just tip-toe around certain aspects, like slavery. Just present a completely honest look of your fictional story like Stowe did with "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
Hopefully they dive into the Native American oppression as well, either in just a conversational sense in full-blown missions. Quite a few Indian tribes spoke out against colonists buying hides and equipment from them for less than its value and seducing Indian women (loss of their virginity before marriage would sometimes result in them being kicked out of the camp for good), raising the question of where the colonists' "faith" really lied.
"It’s not about America Ra Ra". So the reveal trailer had no patriotic tone to it... That's a joke.
Like I have said before the trailers are advertisement to North America as the AC franchise is really popular in the Europe and less so in North America (and my own opinion on why they chose an American setting-look at the feedback the reveal got compared to other AC games) but if you are going to spout stuff saying this game is going to do this and that then show it. From the trailers we have seen nothing about a slavery theme nor one about templars just an assassin killing red coats. I hope the game isn't just that and has the mentioned themes in it and this (the trailers showing a different theme) is just PR/advertising stuff.
"One of the more obvious difficulties is how to structure a story on the American Revolution without making either the Americans or English look like the bad guys, something Turner’s aware of."
Erm...they've done a good making it look like the Red Coats are the bad guys, everything we've seen so far is Connor killing a redcoat or is pro American giving off the impression that we are the bad guys.
As I've said before for me it's not about being "offended" or having "personal issues with this....it's that it dosen't make sense STORY WISE. I know in real life things played out differently and maybe Britain shouldn't of invaded but I'm taking about the AC universe not real life.
Yeah I was that person who took the tikme during the AC games to read everything I came across and what it makes out that America is the central base for the Templars, always has been and always will been. If America was the good guys then they would of won against the templars since America won the war....but that is ridiculous because if it was the other way round it would fit into why the Assassins have declined in the present and why the Templars have more control in American and the rest of the world.
"I always find that kind of ironic because killing someone else’s ancestors is fine? Also, they were British in Assassin’s Creed 1 in the Crusades, so you were fine with that?”"
No the problem is the game is making it so obvious that the redcoats are these bad guys when asd I've already said it dosen't make sense story wise. If you had a game where it was trying to mimic real life events and stay true to them and you had the Germans being all friendly and kind making it out they are the good guys then yeah thats a problem. Every other game is fine because they stay true to real life events, if this game didn't have the whole Assassin thing going on and was just a basic America vs Britain game then I wouldn't have a problem but because I have invested a lot of my time in the story I don't think it's right to go back on what you've already said in the past games. I mean Connor is a native American and is British....the Americans would be the last side he would take in all this.
I said that this game will be about some political statment and I was right, this game will not be fun and is going to p!ss allot of people off and it will all be about racist conflict. Dont get me wrong salvery was a bad thing and never should have happened but Im just tired of the racial thing poking its head into everything.
Well, the assassins creed games have stayed very true to history.
