Have EA changed DLC forever?

TVGB: "In Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 EA have made it entirely possible for players to earn all of the downloadable courses through an in-game system of coins, saving them anywhere up to £27.20. So does this mean that players will no longer have to shell out for paid DLC, or is this an otherwise broken system? In this article I’ll be looking at how EA and other publishers may implement this system in the future, and what that means for the industry overall.

"Warning: this article contains basic mathematics!"

Uh oh. There are many on N4G who will be hopelessly confused by it then.

As for the question at hand, the only thing that will change DLC is for people to stop buying it as much as they do. The vast majority of DLC will be sold to you because you (the market) have shown a willingness to buy it.

I would love to see more games with this system. I personally believe this system should be in every game. Gamers buy games to play and often get no rewards for playing.

They promote pay to win, many developers have done this and I find this beyond stupid.

DLC made sense at first for a few things but it has just gotten out of control and ruins gaming IMO.

I would say they're ruining it (Very much so right now) with ME3 day one DLC that's very important to the ME lore and then BF3:B2K. why B2K?? because it featured an overpowered weapon which was only available to those who bough the expansion. Close quarters could end up the same why with its new weapons.

Making a game that involves an option to pay more to gain a sleight advantage over other players is not a game we should support...

Yes, they are ruining it but I don't believe so with BF3. The guns included in the packs are not as great as many think. Yes, the FAMAS was the greatest gun before the patch but now, it's barely a decent gun. As far as I can tell, the guns are balanced and buying the packs won't give you an advantage. Also, B2K was free with pre-order so many people didn't even pay for it.

Although EA is ruining the DLC, they aren't the ones changing DLC. They're just re-using old DLC tactics that everyone hates to make more money. I can probably hate CAPCOM DLC much more than EA DLC.

I believe they are doing it right with B2K, it didnt come out day 1 as well. It was a few months afterwards which was nice because it gave me incentive to keep on playing. Its also not just maps, it added weapons and vehicles as well, and a little better destruction on the new maps.

Thats an expansion worth.

Shouldn't it be "has" instead of "Have?"

Either way why is EA taking the heat? Because they are a popular company that has fully jumped on the bandwagon? I saw this coming when DLC started, but no one wanted to listen because DLC was actually good back then. You know games with 30 to 40 maps and TONS of content. Today it lackluster as hell and half the disc is locked behind a code.....

Activision, Capcom, Ubisoft. They ALL are to be blamed, not just EA.....EA is just the easy target.

Because EA have recently decided to take the piss more so than any other publisher has in so little time (with DLC).

UK folks refer to companies as "they." Weird, I know :)

Well, for the worst in this case. If they would start offering reasonable content for prices not over $10 that could change.
