Free Radical Design was working on Star Wars Battlefront 3 and 4 before it collapsed.
Co-founder Steve Ellis, now making iOS games at new studio Crash Lab, told Eurogamer sister site GamesIndustry International in a sweeping interview published today that the Nottingham studio had a strong relationship with Star Wars IP holder LucasArts following a deal signed in 2006.
If they listened to their consumers, Lucasarts would have had the second most successful online game this gen. Instead, they shove out Force Unleashed 2 & Kinect Star Wars! Bunch of Fools!
First Person Shooter - Republic Commando 2
Third Person Adventure- Jedi Knight IV
Third Person Shooter - Battlefront 3
Flight Combat- Rogue Squadron 4
Racing - Pod Racing 2
They have games to cover nearly all genres yet do nothing with them. They had a chance to make a fair bit of money from DLC from the above games too as they would all provide great online modes. I just can't believe they did nothing of any worth this gen. Instead we got:
Fracture
Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues
Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Republic Heroes
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Kinect Star Wars.
Out of those 9 games, 5 were pointless, and frankly, poor games. That's 5 games worth of development funds which would have been better aimed at Battlefront 3, Republic Commando 2 etc.
There's a reason we had limited time copy protection, once upon a time. But at this pace, corporations will own ideas for eternity.
God only knows why the hell SWBF3 never got released. Why is it that kinect star wars gets release over SWBF3, its beyond me. I can't get my head round it.
Let's all keep the faith and hope one day lucas arts come to there senses and release it.
