J-RPG fans and distraught Nintendo fanboys had to beg and plead for months to get it, but there’s no doubt about it: Xenoblade Chronicles was worth the wait and then some.
Why did this turn into a persona 4 review? Also since when is real time battles a western rpg feature when games like ys have been doing it for 20 years longer than skyrim? "Unlike most other J-RPG’s, Xenoblade is absolutely brimming with sidequests" This is another false statement as most japanese rpgs are brimming with side content. Lets look at the recently released disgaea 3 vita.........50 hours of side content This is a poorly written review that uses the word jrpg far too much to hide how bad of a writter he is......... "there’s no question in my mind that Xenoblade isn’t just the best J-RPG to be released in this console cycle," Sensationalism is the theme of this review, and its kind of sad........ So radiant historia, pokemon black white, disgaea 4, and more didnt addict you but only a 4 year old game did? Why are you brining it up in a review? "if there’s two things that modern elitist “hardcore” gamers like to hate on these days, it’s J-RPG’s and the Wii." Worldwide japanese rpg sales are up this gen, what else ya got? "it also manages to do what most other modern J-RPG’s have failed at: it feels fresh and new and innovative. " kotaku just had an article about how anyone who says this is a knowledge less fool. "While bigger franchises like Final Fantasy and the Tales Of series have stubbornly refused to adapt to modern tastes" Is that why both series have achieved the highest sales ever? "Xenoblade Chronicles represents the evolution that the J-RPG genre has always needed but has refused to undergo up until now." This is literally a non statement. A fluff statement that doesnt mean anything 4 out of 10 review
Lol great job pointing it out.
I usually disagree with you, but you're pretty spot-on, here.
Most of those are pretty fair points, though using the word JRPG frequently doesn't necessarily make him a bad writer. His thoughts were cohesive and understandable, while presenting information as to why the game was good. Its a shame that passion, or as you say "sensationalism", can't show through in a review, I don't think it made the review biased just by stating his opinion, which is what a review is after all. Also sales do not necessarily mean that there isn't haters who secretly buy Japanese RPGs, I have noticed a growing number of people hating on such games just because they think its hip to do so. Also, last time I checked 10 million sold(FF VII) is higher than 5.5 Million (FF XIII), so I wouldn't say highest sales ever. But everything else I agree with. Still a decent review though.
