Mass Effect, released in 2007, proved that games could have a long-lasting and personal impact, one heavily influenced by player choice. Mass Effect 3, the final iteration of BioWare’s sci-fi trilogy, employs the same concepts as the games before it, but takes a dark new direction. It is epic in scale, tragic in story, and often disheartening during play—and I didn’t expect anything less, nor want anything else when the credits rolled.
