Battlefield 3 is Not Broken, The (Almost) Final Build is Magnificent - RipTen

RipTen: The build I’ve been playing for the past few days is literally light years ahead of the beta. While not the final product, Nvidia and DICE confirmed to me that what we were playing was “damn close” to final build and if this is any indication of the final product… I’m sold (Battlefield 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Considering how many games are released with major bugs (and then remain bug filled due to poor patching), this is good news.
Kreyg  +   578d ago
Agreed! The beta was a bit buggy and left me a bit concerned with how the final product would turn out. This is very good news indeed!
evrfighter  +   578d ago
If its as good as they lead me to believe it is then dice may have very well given the term beta its meaning back.

That is until devs start throwing demos on the market calling them betas to escape scrutiny should fans decide their beta sucks.

In which case the devs just shrug and say "hey it's not the final product, the end result is gonna be awesome! So make sure and preorder the dlc thats coming with it"
ikkokucrisis  +   578d ago
hmm, we'll see robin, we'll see..
Parapraxis  +   578d ago
Well said evrfighter.
OdinX  +   578d ago
@evrfighter Actually DICE did say that through a disclaimer everytime you booted up the BETA. People choose not to believe it for whatever reasons, but given DICE's past titles and their support I couldn't believe they would allow the final product to be anywhere near the BETA's quality.
Autodidactdystopia  +   578d ago
didn't the PC version leak already? how is it not the final version?
CrzyFooL  +   578d ago
Agreed.
greeneggsnsam  +   578d ago
Yeah New Vegas was a disgrace.
jaredhart  +   578d ago
It's going to be a good game. betas are always buggy.
JellyJelly  +   577d ago
Not always but sometimes. What could be said though is to never judge a game by its beta.
McCullster  +   578d ago
Going through the certification process with both Microsoft and Sony? I don't even want to know how that works and how long it takes, but that's the reason they had to use older code for the beta. Good to see that most if not all of the bugs we saw are getting fixed.

Good on ya DICE!
wakash  +   578d ago
this game is gonna be dope!

I was also there at GeForce LAN 6. Indeed, the build we played was rock-solid, and I didn't experience any glitches during the 5-6 hours I spent with it.

If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at the 64-rig setup NVIDIA had at GeForce LAN 6!

The beta was buggy, but not bad at all. I'm glad most of the issues were resolved.
xPhearR3dx  +   578d ago
It was terrible on 360
FragMnTagM  +   578d ago
No it was not. I played every version of the beta and they all had the same exact bugs. The 360 version did not look horrible as everyone is saying. It easily surpassed nearly every game on the 360 in a buggy state even.

Don't see why everyone seems to think that it is so inferior. I have played every version and it is hard to tell the difference between the PS3 and 360 versions. The lighting is basically the only difference.
frostypants  +   577d ago
I played all 3 betas. The 360 was no worse than the others, as far as the game went. The PLAYERS, on the other hand...they were all trying to play it like CoD...no team cohesion whatsoever.

@FragMnTagM

Yeah it was dude. Graphics looked like ass, tons of glitches (which is expected) but also graphical glitches, falling through the ground, clipping everywhere, horrific textures etc. BF3 Beta (On 360 at least) was even worse than the MOH beta. It was complete crap.

Just goes to show that some need to chill out and ease on the snap judgements.

The BETA was rough around the edges but it seems like they had us on an older build. Very good to know.
Babyclami  +   578d ago
Best game I ever played, that's for damn sure

I'll sit back and drink some tea next to a fireplace as I await next tuesday.
Avernus  +   578d ago
DICE is a really good game developer, and I never doubted the quality of the final product. BF3 is going to be an epic experience.

Master race laughable.
VeteRAN  +   578d ago
Judging a game on a beta is plaim stupid anyway but sadly that was the case on N4G not too long ago. Good to hear so many positive reports on the near final build.
iceman06  +   578d ago
Not just N4G, but the world over. I think that devs have had a bad habit of releasing BETA's that were meant as DEMO's. That has lead to many people judging BETA's as the definitive code. I trust DICE because they continued to support their games and improve them (for the most part) for a long time after release. Plus, it's just so damn fun to play!!!

Every COD since MW2 has had massive lagging issues between hosts and non-hosts, and it never gets fixed. Bug free my butt.

haha for real. I loved the beta, but the bugs just killed it for me. I hate falling through floors!

Darn! I was having so much fun with the bugs. :P
Sarobi  +   578d ago
I never judged this game upon playing the beta, it took no longer than 5 minutes after installing the game on my PS3 to realize this was an "not so updated" build of a beta
Plagasx  +   578d ago
Please tell me they kept the giraffe neck bug...

That should be a fucking feature in the game.

just tell this to the casual gamers....
orange-skittle  +   577d ago
I GOTTA SAY IT...
TOLD YA SO! It must be new kids or something that thought the beta was the real thing. I posted it everywhere that it was an alpha build and that the game had already been finished. They were just using the beta as a stress tester
Jihra  +   577d ago
I knew this was how it was gonna turn out but nonetheless I'm relieve to hear the good news.
TopDudeMan  +   577d ago
Hmmm, still, you don't put out a beta like that, because people are gonna associate that with the final product. And don't bombard me with "It was only a beta" because that is all they've given us to judge the game on and they should have been embarrassed about that. Running that beta has definitely lost them sales.
VvKILLAGOOSEvV  +   577d ago
So what do you presume they SHOULD have given us then? Because DICE are not like many other developers and release "demos" as betas just to make them look better in everyone's eyes? Or maybe, just maybe DICE was actually more worried about everyone testing the servers for them so that they can focus on whats more important here...giving us a quality product in the end.

It doesn't matter if DICE lost sales from the beta, word of mouth is very strong, and word will get out from people who bought it how awesome it turned out to be.
TopDudeMan  +   577d ago
They'd have been better off not doing a public beta than releasing that crap. It was completely unplayable.

You let the public play something like that 1 month before release and you're losing sales. Forever. These people played it. They're not gonna change their mind because of some loudmouth spouting off about how it's the holy grail of shooters, no matter how good the final product turns out.

Sure, they were testing the servers, right... Because everyone's gonna look past the fact that the game played terrible because they were testing their servers. I mean come on. That has to be the lamest excuse ever. Next time you find an internet dictionary, look up fanboy. I think it defines you quite well.

EDIT:
Well, you're a fanboy because you won't hear a single word against battlefield. I made a simple point that the beta affected sales and you went on a crazy rant about how it'll never affect their sales and in effect asking me if I could do any better as a manager at dice? You're shoving your own, closed-minded opinion down everyone's throats.

@TopDudeMan

Ok...so now I'm a fanboy because I stated what the reality of the situation is...you don't agree with me and that's fine, know why?

"The world is F'ed up, if it ever agrees with you your doing something wrong."
orange-skittle  +   577d ago
The percentage of people that wont pick up the game b/c of the beta is minimal. Secondly, most people that buy games usually go by word of mouth. A lot of people dont scour the net and look for news or reviews. They hear others talk about it and that's why BFBC2 sold so many volumes over BFBC. Trust me, those same people that talked smack will be buying BF3 on Tuesday regardless.

@Endoran

The reviewer didnt play it today. The game is done. It was pretty much done in August. I read about the 50 bugs they removed before the beta was even released and they said that build we were playing was from the alpha build earlier this year in February. If you remember correctly, the scopes didnt have detail at all. If you look at the pics of the finished product, they have buttons and screws along w/ scratches.
