PS3Blog.net Accessory Review: Sony Wireless Headset

Jason from PS3Blog.net writes:

The $99.99 price point on Sony’s new head set may have you somewhat hesitant to jump on board. With the average gaming headset going for $299, I, too, was a bit reluctant to make the purchase. Having owned a few Turtle Beach sets in the past, I went ahead and made the jump for the sleek design. (PS3) 100/100

"With the average gaming headset going for $299"

Say what!? I think you mean average 7.1 headset.

To clarify, an average headset does not cost $299. If anyone disagrees with that, please explain to me why/how.

For $99 this headset seems incredibly worthy of anyones money. I'd pick it up instantly if I had a PS3 and didn't already have a headset.

my brother bought one last week and he said it works great, i already have the new earpiece(which works awesome btw) so ill have to debate if i should get this also.

So this headset only works with a ps3 right? I can't pair it up with my phone and listen to music can I? Even if it doesn't, I'll still get it regardless, but it would be cool if it could.

Your phone would need a USB port.

@ Ultraplayerxp, this headset is not bluetooth, so it won't pair up with a phone. You can use it with a pc though. Just put in the dongle and you're good to go.

So far i'm really enjoying mine, it's my first gaming headset and it's great for an immersive experience.

The only bad thing I can think of is that you sometimes can't tell how loud your talking/shouting.^_^
If lucky enough have SACD capable ps3 then your in for a treat.

The only bad thing for me is changing from headset sound to speaker sound requires the main XMB. Minus that. . . Best headset I've ever bought for $99.

WOW based on your comment... you havent even touched the headset. Speaking with your A$$... LOL!!

Are you freakin' kidding me? If you're playing a game and have the headset as the sound output device, how to you switch to the speakers while also keeping the headset as the microphone? You HAVE to quit the game and go to accessory settings. Try it right now. My ass is telling you to do this. It happens to be right. LOL!!? Maybe I could have been more specific in what I was saying, but since YOU seem to have the headset YOU should know what I was talking about. I know that you can press the area on the left side of the headset to "disable" the headset. You can not do that same thing to transfer game audio while keeping microphone capability without leaving the game you're in. WOW and LOL!! indeed.

I have this and it's awesome. Tired of gaming? Watch a movie in 7.1 surround sound. As far as value is concerned, Sony has really learned about pricing structure. They could have easily released it at 299 like other 7.1 headsets, but Sony got smart releasing a premium product at an affordable price. I still can't believe this is Sony actually. They've been really nailing it lately.

yep! i got this too the day it came out (first time trying surround sound!) and its crazy!!.....love the thing, only complaint is. sound cuts off for like a second or two?! only when i play killzone 3?! hope and update will fix that....have so many more games to try surround sound wtih!! :D

I have had them since day one and they are phenomenal. Some people say that they are not as good as a set of true 7.1 surround headphones because in all actuality multiple speakers per ear should be the way to have real surround but don't listen to any of that, listen to the headphones. They sound as good as any 7.1 surround headphones I have heard on the market as far as sound placement is concerned. The main drawback to me is the flimsy microphone so I keep it tucked in and my team can still hear me fine. Other than that these things are fantastic. For movies I will stick to my home surround system because I only watch movies with others and these don't work with blu-ray or dvd surround. Buy them, well worth it.

Bluray & Dvd's (5.1 is nice but not necessary)play in just stereo.

My stack of 96khz dual discs and SACD's sound great.
Its really the sound quality that matters and that still shines thru with the headset.

Ya I know it still works in stereo but when given 7.1 surround sound out of a nice home surround unit or stereo over nice headphones you know the conclusion. I do know the sound is great in stereo also though.
