We know that Sid Meier and the Civilization V crew wanted to make a pretty game, but some of the results have been ugly. The game is remarkably slow on mid-to-high end machines that can run Crysis, and some attempts to lower the resolution can make the game look brutally bad. There’s also long load times – the opening cutscene is unskippable for a minute as the game loads, and save games take a surprisingly long amount of time to load as well.
For a turn-based strategy game, Civilization V seems to be one, big, fat resource hog. Being anchored to Steam can’t help, either.
