More Sega classics set for 21st century sequels

Critical Gamer writes: As soon as Sonic 4 – the ‘proper’ Sonic sequel fans were crying out for for years – was announced, the internet was ablaze with electronic cheers and rumours. It now seems that perhaps more Sega classics will be getting ‘proper’ modern sequels. This has been hinted at not by the Sega teaboy whilst tipsy down the pub, but Sega America’s vice – president of sales and marketing, Alan Pritchard. (Alan Pritchard, Dev, Sega)

vectorman...
streets of rage, toe jam and earl would all do nicely.

I want more arcade remakes. After burner climax has me itching to play new versions of thunder blade, galaxy force and hang on. Maybe they can see fit to finally release planet harriers as well.

Streets of Rage for me please

Agreed about Streets of Rage...
... a 3D game, with MadWorld style environmental interactivity, Naruto US style cellshading, and a nice collection of characters and ofcourse a brilliant soundtrack once again by Koshiro.

Graphics style has to be very colourful and very close to the design of the original games, and not 'realistic' 3D.

Road Rash, Streets of Rage, all the Dessert/Jungle/Urban Strike games and shinobi.
They'd all do for me :)

sorry hells...
Those games are EA classics that were on a sega platform. I am thinking this is more about real SEGA classics. I am looking at arcade remakes of thunder blade, galaxy force, space harrier (technically...platen harriers is a remake of space harrier).

If they are referring to console classics then comix zone, vectorman, toe jam and earl, streets of rage would all be sega classics that i welcome remakes to.

"Does this mean that upcoming sequels and remakes will, like the new Sonic, be in 2D"
New Sonic is 3D but sidescrolling. It's like saying Street Fighter IV is 2D.

Now that's a good question

A current gen Skies of Arcadia, Armada, and Soul Reaver is what Im waiting for.
scruffy_bear  +   1781d ago
Skies of Arcadia HD then follow by Skies of Arcadia 2 that would be awesome
Godmars290  +   1781d ago
If they do Armada, it has to be PSN/XBL.

Thought I do agree with DemonStration below: Sega hasn't generated much confidence or competence this gen. With both their good or bad games.

I'm not sure how much I trust Sega with their own games anymore, but ideally I'd like them to assemble some of the original team for a new Panzer Dragoon game.

A new, lush looking Echo The Dolphin in 2-D/HD would be my re-make dream from Sega.

Sega need to make their older games look like the new Sonic 4 thats coming out soon for PSN/360 live.

i want virtua fighter harnessing full ps3 capabilities and (sadly) show tekken how next-gen fighting games should be made (in a tekken fanboy but honestly the last one is not good).

still hoping for a nice sequel to PSO, PSU didnt do it for me and the mmo sub fee attached to it was a slap in the face - small party instances with populated lobbies shouldn't equal mmo-like fees.

But Im sure Diablo 3 will change that perception for good with some kind of premium service if not just a basic fee in general. I dont mind paying sub fees but when your paying for content that is nothing more then bug fixes and nerfs & buffs... It just doesn't make sense - and its really funny when they throw you an armor or a weapon that probably didnt take a few hours to make and call it a day*.

(*day=month)

also qouting the article: "More interestingly however, he talks of ‘digital releases’, and does so in the context of Sonic 4’s release. Does this mean that upcoming sequels and remakes will, like the new Sonic, be in 2D and stick to the spirit of the originals? "

I only think that means it will be downloadable and has nothing to do with what it looks like...but Sega is probably looking for the quickest and easiest way to make money and if they think jumping on the 2D nostalgia bandwagon is the way to do it....they'll probably have 40 games by year end, killing the fad in the process.

I love you Sega, but how did you stray so far from your Dreamcast days - They made the choice to drop out of hardware to focus on software, which should have had them delivering great games left and right and being one of the "elite".
