8bitfix.com's Steven Mai (Reigami) had the opportunity to review the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII. Here is a bit of what he had to say about Square-Enix's latest game in the well known series.
"With a new game engine to debut, a fresh new story to portray, and millions of fans to please, a new Final Fantasy game comes to us with gunblades blazing. Taking an array of bold new chances, does Final Fantasy XIII live up to the expectations of its pedigree?
The game's linearity hurt the storytelling in the end, making the game feel more like an interactive movie. The lack of exploration took away from the ability to learn the true depth of the characters.
While the story was great, it was also fairly cliché, with few twists to keep you off guard. I'd recommend this game to those wanting to experience an RPG without the normal frustrations of a large amount of grinding or getting lost, as it does well to mitigate those factors.
From a visual standpoint alone, it may be worth the price of admission. There were many scenes that will simply take your breath away."
