IGN: Alan Wake Rated by the ESRB

Not the rating you might expect.

IGN has received word that Alan Wake has been rated the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, an independent group which reviews the content of games in an effort to regulate advertising and offer information to consumers. The game has received a T for Teen rating, below the expected M for Mature designation which is assigned to games with excessive gore, violence, sexual overtones, or language. (Alan Wake, Xbox 360)
