As gaming evolves with more powerful technology and higher cinematic aspirations from developers, an increasing malaise has risen with the trend of games that are far more art than game. Whereas some seem to be able to manage such a concept (Fumito Ueda (Ico), Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid), Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez)), even more fumble in their attempts.
Such is the problem with Lucidity. While LucasArts has made one of the finest looking games around with consistently beautiful storybook visuals, it's hard to shake the uneven-at-best gameplay. Instead of a traditional genre, the developers decided to opt for the much-maligned and long-dead combination of Lemmings, escort missions, and platforming. Rarely seen since a weak showing in the mid-90's with stunning games such as Eek! The Cat and Rocko's Modern Life, said genre somehow found its way into 2009 to annoy yet another generation of gamers.
