Gamebosh Review: Wolfenstein
Blasteroids, Gauntlet and The Last Ninja are just a handful of the unforgettable games that the legendary Commodore 64 console bestowed upon us. While these titles were top of the range in their heyday, they have unfortunately failed to withstand the test of time and are now merely ghosts of gaming’s illustrious past. In actual fact, it’s difficult to name many games that have featured in every console generation since the Commodore’s launch in 1982. One gaming legacy that can boast this achievement however is the Wolfenstein series. It was 26 years ago this year that the first instalment was released in the form of Castle Wolfenstein. This latest release is actually the seventh addition to the long running series and we must admit it is a pleasure to see a classic performing such continuity.
One of the great things about Wolfenstein is that it has always remained true to its roots. Rarely does it stray from its military battle background and this has remained the case for the newest addition to the family. Wolfenstein is a sequel to Return To Castle Wolfenstein, which was released in 2001, but don’t be put off if you have never played any of the series before. You would never know that this game had prequels due to the fantastic storyline. You start the game as B J Blazkowic who is an undercover spy on a German Nazi boat. Your mission is to sink the ship and make a clean getaway. When you are caught, however, it is a mysterious medallion which you find on your travels that comes to your rescue.
