Jakejames Lugo of The Koalition writes: The official reveal of Super Smash Bros Ultimate came from the annual Nintendo Direct during E3 2018, and it was immediately clear just how big this game will be for Smash Bros fans. Everybody who has appeared in a game is going to be playable on Nintendo Switch, including the guest characters you’d thought would never show up again. There are 66 playable characters in total, including a few newcomers. But Smash Bros Ultimate is more than just a hodgepodge of characters from every single game in the series, there’s a lot of changes and updates under the hood that aren’t immediately noticeable, but will definitely be appreciated by all fans.
For the roster itself, every character past and present gets a number of changes to their move sets and specific properties that will change the flow of competitive play. Those that just play for fun will still notice how things will be different for their favorite characters, but the tournament players will have a lot to chew on. Outside of all the fighters returning from every game, the new characters add layers to an already big game.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate will host a new Spirits event on March 21 to celebrate the release of Princess Peach Showtime! and Super Mario Bros Wonder. The event will last for five days with new Spirits from the Nintendo Switch games.
The creator of the Smash Bros series, Masahiro Sakurai, has explained the lack of button re-mapping in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
With the recent restocks, there are still a number of rare and hard-to-find Super Smash Bros. series amiibo figures out there.
Playing Smash Ultimate was a lot of fun at E3 2018 and I can't wait to get my hands on the full game in December.
The only thing Marvel vs Capcom 2 has in common with Super Smash Bros Ultimate is that it features every fighter from previous entries along with new ones.
That’d where the similarities ultimately end. MvC2 reused assets for every returning character with little change while SSBU changes aspects of every returning character in some capacity.
Plus MvC2 didn’t bring back returning stages, was largely unbalanced because of the huge roster, didn’t feature end battle quotes, & didn’t feature individual character endings. SSBU on the other hand will do its best fo feature every ancillary element outside of the roster into the game.
Marvel: "Avengers: Infinity War is the most ambitious cross-over event of all time!"
Nintendo: "Hold my beer, and this Smash Ball."
I'll be picking up a Switch for this. Every character to ever be in a Smash game, wow. I'm just hoping, that with Nintendos paid online subscription coming, that there will be a lot of focus on online play and netcode.
I was hoping for a Kratos or Master Chief announcement. Or Rayman.
