Just last week, Sony announced the PS3 DUALSHOCK / SIXAXIS Wireless Keypad. The Wireless Keypad has appeared on Amazon.com, listed for $49.99. The release date is also shown for November 30, 2008.
I suppose because of its blue tooth capabilities its alittle more expensive than I imagined. I want this..but I guess I'll wait till alittle after christmas to get it.
I am the worse one when it comes typing with menu system. I think, i will be buying this sooner than expected even it seems little high price.
I cringe looking at the Price. I Hope x-mas gives me enough money.
Sounds expensive to me. Im interested to read a hands-on on this.
socom bluetooth headset ftw. This keypad looks very clunky and poorly designed imo.
OMG that's expensive.
You can go cheaper with IR from Mad Catz. http://www.madcatz.com/Defa... Anyway, I take a full wireless keyboard above both anyday, I just don't have did it 'till now because PS3 don't totally (rightly) support brazilian standard keyboards as of today (and don't want to buy one just for console and can't use it on PC, I'm just using my PC's wired one every now and than).
wow not only is that thing unless but is extremely over priced too
yea looks good definetly getting this
Doesnt it seem overpriced?
It's not Microsoft ! you pay 49.99 for at least 3 years not 2 weeks. It also doesn't have RROD
I was thinking 39.99 but it isn't too out there. Comparing this item to the Logitech DiNovo Mini that I purchased, it is cheaper and more designed for the PS3(the Logitech was priced at 129.99 when purchased and didn't have basic buttons the PS3 needed to navigate). I returned the logitech because it's use didn't end up justifing the cost but this item will be a must purchase. I can't keep a keyboard always beside me in the entertainment room but the controllers are always laying around and this could be on the Player 1 controller. I can't see anyone needing any more than one of these and I bet prices will come down by spring.
49.99 USD = 27.1452 GBP Just converted that on XE Sorry, but about £30 for a unnecessary keyboard peripheral that's just less than £20 for a retail price of a new PS3 game here in the UK...I don't think so. With the fact that you can use a keyboard for the PS3 anyway and have a fantastic built in predictive text feature, is this really needed? I'm thinking this is just for the 360 owners who are also moving onto buying a PS3 to complete the collection and to still have the same basic feature as they were used to with the 360 wireless keypad. I'm afraid I'm not even touching this peripheral, as I just don't need it for my PS3.
many will see the need of this after Home comes out. I'll be getting it, I don't thikn it is expensive considering what it does and the tech it has like Bluetooth...here some info: "Equipped with Bluetooth(R) functionality, the Wireless Keypad can be paired to PS3 by simply connecting the keypad to the USB cable that comes bundled with the PS3 system. Also, two shortcut buttons, a Communication Button and a Message Box Button, are placed on the lower part of the Wireless Keypad, enabling users to jump to pre-set features on XMB(TM) (XrossMediaBar) such as "Friends" and "Message Box" during game play, which help PS3 users to smoothly communicate with each other. Additionally, a Touch Pad Button allows PS3 users to use the entire surface of the keypad as a touch pad, allowing them to easily maneuver the pointer while web browsing, simply by sliding their finger on the keypad surface".
hahaha.... first its placed at the worst spot.. on top of the controller!! whos the genius behind that?... and now they expect lemmings to drop 50 bucks on it!! wow!
Thats Almost as stupid as expecting someone to pay 100 bucks for a 20gb hdd!
.... not that stupid. you got that :)
Go hold your Sixaxis/Dualshock 3 and move your thumbs to the position the keys would be, it doesn't feel that unnatural/difficult when I try it... In fact to me the position under the sticks felt like it would be more awkward for horizontal movement of the thumbs.
Now using the web and messaging will be fast, it always takes me a while with the controller.
i just use an old keyboard and mouse but i will definitely be getting this
etownone, is that ur girls body? WOW
but it looks like i am going to have to wait a few weeks or even month or two. IMO with all fanboy comments aside this is overpriced, 39.99 to me seems alot more apropriate. I think initial sales for this will be slow but they will pick up as time goes on, It will make a great stocking stuffer this Christmas. if yur gunna disagree with me reply and tell me why plz
I accidentally hit disagree (It's like I have a happy, twitchy trigger finger with EVERYTHING, not just guns >.<)
If they were to do something like bundle this with a dualshock 3 for say 79.99 i would definetly buy day 1.
I would definitely buy it if it was bundled with a dualshock3.. 50 bucks is just too expensive, I'd rather wait a few months until it will most likely drop to the 30 dollar price range.
You can buy a USB keyboard for 19.99. http://www.circuitcity.com/...
You have earned yourself a bubble
which i bought and it works GREAT... for that matter... keyboard and mouse with usb adapter for PC just in case cost me about 32 with shipping... can't beat that... they're very solid as well http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Bl...
Not everyone wants a full keyboard hanging around the coffee table.
if you use a full size keyboard try this one: http://www.logitech.com/ind... keyboard with pad and Bluetooth. 59$ on amazon : http://www.amazon.com/Plays...
Madcatz PS3 Wireless Thumb Pad Keyboard http://www.play.com/Games/P...
Tip: NEVER ever buy a MadCatz accessory. Even if it's $1 don't buy it. Waste a little more cash for a better brand.
and even though it's basically an ugly block, it's served me well. I agree that most madcatz stuff is garbage, their thumbpad is probably their best product, and it's reasonably priced. The sony thumbpad looks, and probably fits, better, but if you can spare the usb port, and want to save a few bucks I think the madcatz one isn't that bad. There is also a game shark variant that is the same thing rebranded.
...I don't want a full keyboard on the coffee table. This item just seems so convenient for me for the gmail messaging, quick internet surfing/searches, and PSN messaging I do. While the price seems a bit steep I think I will still purchase this on day one. I just need to purchase one more dual shock controller (2Ds/2Sax) when I get this item and get another bluetooth headset and I'm good to go for all my gaming as well as messaging needs.
that madcatz keypad looks like crap compared to this.. I like this one and will buy it no problem at this price. sure I would rather have it cheaper but it looks well made and dependable.
The happy hacking keyboard, but at ~$40 you should probably just get this. I agree though, it's a pretty sleek add-on, just I would have liked the price to be $39.99. That sounds more reasonable. Right now it's $5 less than a full controller.
a wireless keyboard for less than 35 dollars at target, and it doesn't sit on your controller
You have a big ugly keyboard around taking up space. Unless your entertainment space is a cluttered mess of popcans, ashtrays, old bags of chips, dvd cases and crumbs...in which case, another nice big gadget might fit in splendidly.
(to above) that is the only answer to this stupidity. Edit:keyboards that is, even though I would spring another 10 dollars for the wireless one.
whoops - wrong reply
but the damn thing seem so awkwardly placed. It sits high up on the controller and looks like it will be uncomfortable to use. Though twice as exspensive I still think the Logitech Dinovo is sweeter than this. For those unfmailiar with the Dinovo please see below link. http://www.bigpicturebigsou...
bubbles for you!
Thats one Sexsay KB right?
$130 worth of sexiness. Sorry, that's too much for me. I'll settle for my USB keyboard.
Please try this, I did. Hold your PS3 controller like you normally do and see if your thumbs can reach above the top of the controller where the keypad would be. I have fairly small hands and found that I had no problem doing this without changing my hand position whatsoever. In fact I found reaching my thumbs up above the controller more comfortable than reaching down to the gap between my hands below the center of the controller. Try it for yourself!
I have pretty big hands and the small circular buttons would probably feel more problematic if placed at the top, than at the bottom. I actually prefer the "squishy" buttons that the 360 messenger has compared to the current-looking "clicky" buttons.
I'm guessing that they are actually more on the "squishy" side since there is a mode where the keyboard functions as a trackpad - which would be hard to pull off if they were too "clicky". I've always really liked the PS controller design so I think they know what they are doing in general, but I guess we'll just have to wait until we get a chance to use it to know for sure.
If the keypad is Bluetooth then I can understand the higher price... but really I was thinking that this keypad would sell for $29.99 or $39.99.
It is bluetooth. I was hoping for more like $30. Though I did get the PS3 remote control for like $35 and I don't think it was originally listed for that so who knows.
for $30 i would get if for sure. maybe i could use a $10 off coupon from play-asia and get it then :D yeah, i think i'll do that.
No way I would mess with this junk.
Also the price just doesn't feel right. The tech may warrant the price tag, but the functionality doesn't match the price. A bluetooth keyboard seems much more practical. Faster input/typing speed and much less awkward to use (as it would seem). A bluetooth keyboard is more expensive but you can use it with your computer and PS3 with better result.
Iunno..i dont want to spend my own money on this...I guess i have to write to santa this year..
Not bad but, with my discount..itll prbably be 20.00 or even 15.00. Cant wait!!!!!!
Your discount?? Hook a brother up!!
with that money i could buy another DualShock3...
I bought a gameshark mini keypad that looks very similar to this one, and it works just fine, for only about $25.
but too expensive. I will get a game instead.
my keyboard is great already. but yeah, for that price i would rather spend it on a game or something else. what i like about it is it includes a touchpad feature that acts as a mouse and the quick buttons for text or friend search.
does it come with a prostitute?......30-40.....oth er than that...i need to be getting some action as well.
And I'll probably be more interested. I would prefer the pad to be stand-alone w/ Bluetooth connection. What I like better than the 360 Messenger is that the 360 messenger has to be connected to the controller while the PS3 messenger doesn't require it. What I would do is that I would make it totally stand-alone and design the keypad so that's it's easier on the thumbs. (think bigger) Chances are, if you're gaming, you're going to have a drink next to you. You see where I'm going with this? No need for awkward attachments just for the sake of it.
Is this for the US too? I really want one but this fall is already going to cause massive damage to my wallet. So many great games in a 2 month span on both consoles that i'm actually trying to pay off my list of must have games now so that i don't have to cancel Christmas this year.. Thank god for overtime
Yes it's coming to the US.
Thanx, for some reason i thought europe was getting it first
$50 ?! The 360's QWERTY pad is only $30, and it comes with a headset. o_0
I think the big difference is that this is an actual bluetooth device with its own power supply, unlike the 360 keyboard. It can be used with other bluetooth devices which is pretty cool. And just because Amazon has listed it at $50 doesn't make it gospel. I won't be shocked that it is the right price, but I won't be shocked if it's less either.
and released it for $30
i will be looking for reviews on this piece of kit
