Sony really needs to get the PlayStation Network under control (In North America)

At the time of this writing, the PlayStation Store in North America has yet to be updated. This week’s update is now suffering from a 24-hour delay that Sony says should be rectified sometime today. The reason for the delay? Ongoing scheduled PSN maintenance from April 15. I understand mishaps happen every now and then, but this is becoming a trend with the PlayStation Network. The PlayStation Store is woefully inconsistent when it comes to updating. Sometimes it updates in the early afternoon, and there are other times when nothing will happen until around 10pm EST. This, and the frequent calls for PSN maintenance is something Sony needs to get under control as soon as possible. (Industry, PS Vita, PS3, Sony, Tag Invalid)

Agreed, everyone gets their bites at company they hate when something bad happens. It is just highly unessacary.

People have to understand stuff happen sometimes. Every company goes through a bad time at least once. People honestly have to calm down and chill out. Sony are trying hard to fix it.

"Every company goes through a bad time at least once.People honestly have to calm down and chill out."

You gotta be joking right? We should just accept that these multi-billion dollar companies are experiencing hack attacks and problems with their network services? Shouldn't we complain so that these things don't happen?

"No other video game network from the big three suffers from as much downtime as the PlayStation Network." - Is this not the truth though?

"It seems like every other week we’re hearing about scheduled PlayStation Network maintenance." -Also true yes? But this next part is what I wanted to highlight for you.

"This kind of thing RARELY happens with Microsoft and Nintendo.(pay close attention, this part is for you) SURE there are times when Xbox Live is having its hiccups, but it’s usually sorted out very quickly." - Your own link even shows that Microsoft committed to updating gamers every 30 minutes on the situation and as this article states, it was resolved fairly quickly.

*Troll Police Arrive*

PURE fanboyism right there. Not the first time you trolled on a Sony article

""It seems like every other week we’re hearing about scheduled PlayStation Network maintenance." -Also true yes? But this next part is what I wanted to highlight for you"

You see this isn't true, less than once a month it is done and so what if it is once a week, this just means Sony really want to try and improve the network.

"Your own link even shows that Microsoft committed to updating gamers every 30 minutes on the situation and as this article states, it was resolved fairly quickly."

Do you even know what you are talking about, of course they should update them, because unlike PSN, if the network is down, EVERY app on 360 gets eliminated. You pay for online and we don't so I would sure hope that you get quick updates.

You try oh so hard to not sound like a fanboy by defending every console but when it comes to Sony, you just can't help it.

I shouldn't be suprised though since you have 2 bubbles which means that you are very likely to be a fanboy/fool. Though some people are smart and idk why they have 1 bubble or 2.

Except that Xbox live wasn't down. In fact most of the apps were available. Your reasoning fails and it seems YOU don't know what you're talking about.

LIVE WAS DOWN, I COULDN'T USE IT FOR A GOOD 5+ HOURS

"Except that Xbox live wasn't down. In fact most of the apps were available. Your reasoning fails and it seems YOU don't know what you're talking about."

LOOL you do realise I HAVE a 360. If you do not have the paid version of Xbox Live or the Live is down, you can't use Netflix, Internet Explorer, and pretty much EVERY app. I remember because it said I needed Live to use them and since I don't pay for it I could use 99.999% of the apps.

lol YOU do not know what you're talking about

I don't comment on Sony articles but Good Guy Jamal is right. XBOX LIve was not down and the apps were running. I know this because Wednesday the 10th was my birthday but i had a small bday gathering on Saturday the 13th. I used XBL Youtube to play my music playlist and i never had a single hiccup from 4pm till 1am sunday morning when all my friends had left.

I never even knew that people were experiencing problems with XBL until the next day when i checked N4G and saw the false and grossly over exaggerated articles about Anonymous hacking XBL etc etc.

@ iGAM3R-VIII

You are wrong or are trying to spread an incorrect perception to fanboys of the other consoles.

XBL was NOT down. I was able to play online against players in MLB2k13 and NHL13.

Only some features weren't responding such as txt messaging and some apps.

XBL was still up. The issue did NOT last 5+ hours either.

Please stop spreading FUD. The weaker minds on this site will take your comments as factual or proof.
iGAM3R-VIII  +   463d ago
@Lvl_up_gamer

Well it might of been up fr you but for me it was no apps and no XBL and it lasted 5 plus hours for me. It was different for some people some were on some were not, I do have a 360 and I do know it was down for me. You do not know my life

And Microsoft and Nintendo and Valve doesn't? Why is it that Sony seems to have scheduled maintenance more often than the others? This isn't a trolling question but a valid question.

Personally I think the PS4 will vastly improved in this area as well. Sony has fumbled quite often on the PS3 when it comes to how the system updates, receives patches and other related online services.
Clarence  +   463d ago
Every other week? Man now your REALLY LYING. I know you you pretend to play the good guy, but your trolling is out of control.

Just because live was not down for you doesn't mean it wasn't down for someone else.
The ultimate arguement, "You don't know my life! I totally have an xbox and xbox live wasn't working for me or any of my friends that have xbox in the world!! You totally don't know my life so shut up!!"
Yup, that's all I heard in that rant. Why don't you shut your lie spreading trap and accept the truth? Xbox live was never completely down, and in fact most apps were working fine. Only apps affected were Last.fm, Netflix and the messaging capabilities like sending a message or starting a party chat or joining friend's games.
So why don't you settle down your whiney lying behind and let the truth be heard?!
Clarence, I thought I told you to zip it a long time ago, he's just quoting the article. Truth is PSN is down for maintenance ALOT! Sometimes it does seem like it's alternating weeks. Immo keep a record from now on.

Live was down so stfu please i could not access sky netflix internet etc and it now keeps disconnecting. i dont know abow online gaming beacause i dont use my 360 for that but...

what i will say is PSN is FREE so maintenance does not bother me as much as im not paying for the service when you pay for an online service and then it does not work is when it is a real problem.
kreate  +   463d ago
Something went out of proportion here.
Psn wasnt down at all. Just the store part was being updated and it only lasted few hours if that.

The truth: u couldn't access the store for about one hour, than u were able to download again from the store. That was it.

What if gamestop was closed for a hour? No one would of known except on n4g where a hater would of made a fanboy article hating on gamestop saying that gamestop made a epic fail move.

No other stores ever close down! Ever!

Ppl should lose a bubble just for being a retard.

If it makes anyone happy, psn does have more maintenance time than xbox live. Which is also the truth.

The truth is Live wasn't down, however for some it was inaccessible.

The problem was/is if you cannot log on you can't access Live and therefore the many apps that require it. If you were online before sign-in problems or were outside of the affected area you were fine. Those of us that were not on in time were denied access due to login failures taking place and not Live actually being "down". The effect was the same however.

I was one of those affected for several hours and followed it quite closely. I know some that were not though.

Talk about over-exaggeration.....Although I have to say, Soul Sacrifice is pretty bloody fun.

Dunno what this article is rambling on about, the store updates at 4pm ish (i think) every week here in the UK. One 24hr delay is hardly a trend or even anything to start crying about.

@below, Really? Then the article should provide some kind of links to the other times this kind of thing has happened so the writer wouldn't appear to be crying over nothing.

This article is about the American store. We were supposed to have the update yesterday (Tuesday) and it has still yet to happen even though it is Wednesday afternoon. This sucks because Sony's PS Blog hyped up the update, only to be a while day late. This happens very often on the American side of things.

Edit:

@SmashBash:
When I said that this happens all the time, I meant in varying degrees of screw ups. There are time when it will update after midnight (on the East Coast at least) and sometimes not all of the games/deals will be available at the same time). Even still, i'm not complaining. I just post the article.

@Majin Vegita: We know they didn't promise an update time, but they DID promise it would be Tuesday. Now it's Wednesday. Stop being a fanboy and realize when a company screws up. I love Sony too, but they hyped up the update for a few days only to be almost 24 hours late? Your just a blind fanboy if that makes sense to you.

My question is, why does it even have to be down to update?

Xbox Live as far as I can remember, never goes down for updating. It just happens and I get a notification to download the latest update.

Updates to games don't even require restart of the game, it just downloads in the background and continues the game.

What I have notces when there is lots on content it takes longer for the store to update and where there is little it is up early.

Japan is in charge of the maintenance. It it is extended is it no SCEA fault.
xX-StolenSoul-Xx  +   463d ago
Store is now updated, just a heads up for people.

It does seem like Sony could do some work to figure this stuff
TemplarDante  +   463d ago
The pirates were buying content from the store via proxy, Im sure the initial maintenance was to stop the bastards in their tracks!
delboy  +   463d ago
WTF, why would you stop someone to spend money?
I mean pirates can download all the stuff for free, why would they spend money on store in the first place?

Anyway, Sony sucks with their online service, but you get what you pay for.
I'm not to optimistic about the quality of their online service on ps4.
I see them fail more than ever next gen, half of the announced features won't work like advertised, I'm sure of it.

i don't disagree but you have to remember LIVE was just down over the weekend to the point people couldn't sign in(and missed the double xp weekend for black ops 2).that is far worse then the store updating a day or 2 late even if it happens more often.its all about perspective.

It's not if you only own a PS3 and do not enjoy score counting. For me I only care about PSN and Steam. Luckily I live in the UK and everything was up when I got home. I understand why people would be pissed off.

Playstation Network :Free Service
XBL: Paid Service (p2p)

How did MSFT compensate paying customers for the downtime they STOLE from PAYING members?

Yet another day of Anti Sony hate on N4G...Try as you might ALL parties trying to break PS4 momentum. Its an out of control freight train with sales when it does launch.
No amount of troll articles to spread hate is going to work.

:)
Jek_Porkins  +   463d ago
Come on now, negative Microsoft articles have been flooding N4G for weeks now. You also have to keep in mind that not everyone had an issue with Xbox Live the other day, I was never kicked off line and was able to fully use my Xbox Live Gold Membership.

Also, I'd like to point out that quite a few games on Xbox Live use dedicated servers at this point, even though Microsoft doesn't have the most open network because they don't want too many cooks stirring the pot, they have opened up a bit in the last few years.

PSN is fine for being free, but we cant let that be an excuse anymore because a lot of people pay for PSN+, and those people's PSN experience is going down quite often as well.

I think the PS4 will fix a lot of these issues, but I think it's kind of clear that Sony wasn't expecting online gaming to be as big as it is this generation. I honestly don't think they are prepared to handle the numbers or aspects of a huge online network with the PS3, hopefully the PS4 fixes all that and the downtime will be a thing of the past.

PSN service is very good and Plus is an amazing service for 50 USD you could get almost 40 FREE games (PS3, Vita, PSP), the online in the PSN is almost perfect if you have a decent internet connection. Xbox Gold is very dissapointing, you pay 60 USD for nothing. In 4 years I paid 240 USD only for play in the multiplayer, what a waste of money, then I bought a PC because the online It's free and the games are more cheap in Steam. Also I'm PS+ and It's maybe the best service ever made, for 50 USD I have a subscription for 15 months ( promotion made in january 2013) and almost 50 Free games, the online is very good, no complaints.

I pay for my webhost and sometimes my website goes down. Should they pay me? No. No servers have 100% uptime. I don't understand this logic.
Williamson  +   463d ago
For something that's free its a great service, not perfect but its come a long way since launch and it will continue to improve. The network connectivity in gaming this gen has been a blessing and also a curse this gen, the blessing being how its given us more options and the curse being how many developers release dlc for the wrong reasons/cut content out for dlc.
GABRIEL1030  +   463d ago
PSN is great service and Plus is the best product ever. The online works in the past days normally, only the store was offline for 24 hours. No complaints.
lovegames718  +   463d ago
This guy "Good_Guy_Jamal" has the most milk on the side of his mouth out of all the fanboys lol its pathetic lol We dont even have to go to what happens with online services because xbox live does go down quite frequently and i see issues every few months. Ill leave you off with this comment nothing you say or do can erase the fact that Microsft was the perpetrator of one of the biggest fiascos in gaming history and you support them as if its cool...

They "knowingly" Sold consumers faulty hardware to beat Sony to the market causing consumers to spend thousands if not millions because the RRODs were happening after the first year warranty lol

By the way based off your logic then PSN was never down for me because 9 times out of ten just like the last time i was signed in to my psn account and gaming fine while the issues were occurring.

I think the perception is that the PSN Store generally updates at some point on Tuesdays while the Xbox Live Store consistently updates at the same time every Wednesday. That is also my own perception. I also think the PSN Store needs improvement. I find it clunky, slow to load, and unnecessarily weird to search. But none of these issues warrant emotional outbursts and name-calling. We probably all have back-logs which need tending to. If the store is slow to update sometimes then find that last blast shard in Infamous that's keeping you from your platinum trophy. There's a great silver lining for you.

rainslacker  +   463d ago
Tuesday's update got delayed by a few hours into Wednesday and it's a endemic sign that PSN is going to shit...apparently.

The store, and PSN for that matter, wasn't actually down, they just didn't have new content available like they normally do by Tuesday evening(EST). There was some scheduled maintenance, I believe, but I spent a better part of the day and night online while playing GT5 and never noticed being disconnected, so guess it didn't take long.

I believe the proper term has something to do with mountains and molehills.

Then of course we as gamers have to compare the services of the other manufacturers to make a bigger mountain. What's funny is that by the time most of these comments were made, the store was already updated and people could download new content.
