Take-Two confirms 2K Marin's XCOM shooter is still in development

Unless another studio takes it on, I can't see it ever happening. Rockstar North will always have GTA to worry about. I can't see Agent ever taking priority over what is probably the biggest franchise in the industry.

This game looks like it will blow hard. Don't bet me wrong, but this just looks like one of those games that will sell like 3 copies, and most likely be crap. Hopefully I'm wrong.

<Sigh> XCOM FPS huh...Sounds like another Command & Conquer Renegade. C'mon guys, just stick with the turn-based tactics formula. Instead of a shooter, make a sequal in which you add more/different alien species, classes/abilities, customization, etc.

Didn't disagree, but as its a different developer it has no impact on them doing a more traditional sequel. I like the idea behind xcom's story and setting though so not entirely closed minded on seeing where they take it. Granted it probably wouldn't have as many people against the idea if it was its own IP with a similar story base.

Ahh, I see what u mean. Yea, I guess if it's a different developer it makes sense to change it up a bit, and do things differently.

I've never seen why a different game can't be set in the same universe and somehow its not considered part of the original canon (as long as deviations are minor). I was never blown away by Xcom shooter's trailer but I was curious about where it was going and am sort of glad its apparently not dead (but hope its good).

I sort of hope its a TPS now though as a FPS could be good but after playing latest xcom game it would "fit" better. I don't know about squad based though... I wouldn't pass on it because of that by any means as its the most "natural" way to do an xcom TPS (upgrade/kitting team still). Its just focusing on a single character could make for a a more impact full story (sort of like Master Chief vs Reach's team--not quite the same... And just an example so don't go all anti-Halo due to that).

I don't know, just curious as it could be good but its never a guarantee. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what they did later on down the road. There are very few times though when I'm glad a game actually gets shelved.
