Killzone HD Review | Trendy Gamers

I’m going to admit this right up front so there’s no confusion: I like Killzone. Yes, it wasn’t the best game on the PS2, and it was a far reach from the supposed “Halo-killer” the media claimed it would be, but I had a lot of fun with it. Despite the glitches and constant lag, I enjoyed the look of the game, the way it played, and its overall mood. It may look like just another in a long line of same-y sci-fi shooting games, but something about its realism, despite the fantasy, really gripped me.

- Trendy Gamers (Killzone 1 HD, PS3) 8/10

In all honesty...
i could not play the first one. Frame issues actually made me feel a bit sick. And believe me...I tried many times to get back into it.

So glad they remastered it in HD. I never got rid of my original as I just couldt bare to do that. I always kept hope alive that i would be able to play it all the way through.

For those who did, I bow down before you. You have stronger constitutions than I do. This HD version...Im beating this bitch.

I played the campaign multiple times, at least once through with each character, on every difficulty.

That doesn't even touch on the hours I wasted in multiplayer.

Bit OTT there, sir! =P

I do love me some Killzone and platinum trophied KZ3, but i wouldn't expect anywhere near a 10/10 realistically for the KZ HD, i remember it being a great game back in the day and the graphics were top notch, but i found it slightly lacking in the gameplay department.

Having said that, should this be any form of MGS review, my life long fanatics of MGS would kixk in and having me demanding 10/10 on it like you are with KZ now =P

not really; games started to use cover after Killzone 2, something that wasn't done in a FPS before. Killzone 2 also used that thing that where you hit an enemy they would react to the bullet; Crysis 2 used that after Killzone 2 started that, and I'm sure other games will do that as well.

I don't know about the brutal melee and stuff like that, people should copy that versus the swift knife kills other games have.

Actually, Gears of War (2006) predated Killzone 2 (2009) by about three years and featured gameplay that revolved entirely around cover based shooting. Though if you want to get really anal about it, Kill.Switch was released in 2003, beating out even Gears.

Also flinching to bullet wounds occurred before Killzone 2 as well. I couldn't name the first instance for you, but Max Payne and Hitman (both 2001, I believe) were early examples of games attempting to model realistic real life wound physics by introducing rag doll effects.

Killzone isn't reinventing the wheel, it's trying to improve upon it.

The original Killzone has what FPS games sorely lack this gen a long fun single player campaign.

I haven't played that many FPS's this gen, but I actually thought Resistance 3 had a lengthy, and an amazingly well done campaign.
thebudgetgamer  +   827d ago
That's what everybody tells me, haven't tried ye though. Have to get on that.

It was pretty good, I was hoping that they would tie it in better with the first two though.

Going to have to disagree. Resistance 3's campaign is on the short side by FPS standards, especially if you want to compare it to Killzone or Halo. Even if you play on the hardest difficulty, it won't take you too long to beat. Resistance: Fall of Man had more content in terms of campaign length.

Though I would actually go a step further and argue that Resistance 3 is the weakest in the series. A decent game, sure. A lot of fun too. Unfortunately, it lacks a lot of the charm and originality present in the first two titles, borrowing so much from other sources that it winds up looking like a melting pot of other media. Sure, the other games borrow and pay homage, but Resistance 3 is pretty egregious about it and doesn't make anything it's "own." Among other things, it riffs off of Cormac McCarthy's The Road, Jaws, Half-Life 2, Unreal Tournament, and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.

I'm not saying don't play it, just know that it's far from perfect.
