Skyrim Hearthfire with free Dawnguard on PS3

ProductReviews: It’s fair to say that PS3 users are not happy at all with the Dawnguard situation for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Bethesda had originally stated that PS3 users would get it 30 days after Xbox 360, but it is now coming up to a full two months without Dawnguard and there’s still complete silence from Bethesda.

Earlier on this week we toyed on the idea of Xbox 360 users getting an announcement on Hearthfire, the next rumored pack, before PS3 users even have a chance to play Dawnguard. We received some very interesting feedback for sure which you can read through yourselves here, but some additional details on Hearthfire have arrived and it once again threatens to make this a reality for PS3 owners. (PS3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

Update MOD NOTE: The title is very misleading. Essentially, a forum user suggested giving PS3 users Dawnguard for free, not that Bethesda has ever said any such thing themselves. It's just a forum member who made the suggestion.

I don't see it happening. It's like we've been thrown in a corner and forgotten about. Things like this help determine if i'll invest in your future products I.E. Fallout4. I've been having freeze issuse with my copy so i've been playing Fifa12. They need to address this ASAP

Not only that, but according to this article " but it is now coming up to a full two months without Dawnguard and there’s still complete silence from Bethesda. "

Complete silence? Really? August 2nd, 2012:

""We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard's performance on the PS3," said Bethesda on the company blog. "We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality."

I fucking hate journalists that don't know what the fuck they are talking about!!!!!

More like: "Free? zenimax? LOL"
Zenimax are the ones that decides the prices of bethesda games. Todd Haward has even said that he thinks game-prices are too high.
KwietStorm  +   751d ago
Pricing has nothing to do with the actual development of the game.

Remember fallout 3? They won't give it away for free because when it finally releases everyone will buy it. And they would have never made a deal with Microsoft if it wasn't financially to their benefit Anyway. They knew how big their game was and how much could be made on dlc for both systems and still chose to make a deal so it was probably for much more than they could make on ps3 or close. And they want lose much as most ps3 owners will cave and buy it. I did with fallout despite how unbelievably angry I was. And they may have mentioned 30 days but their deal may state that Xbox gets all dlc before ps3 gets any. We just don't know.

It's obvious they don't care about Playstation owners.
BiggCMan  +   751d ago
That could be part of it, but I think it's more about Microsoft's deep pockets to get that DLC like they do with Call of Duty.
lategamer  +   751d ago
I think if Microsoft paid them for the Dawngaurd exclusive, they would have stated so. They did have a timed exclusive agreement, but after that Dawngaurd could go to any platform (i.e. PC).

I think the reason Dawngaurd isn't coming or out on PS3 yet is because issues with the engine. Bethesda just didn't do a good job with optimizing it for PS3, and adding DLC prob. causes more issues and headaches, and the backlash isn't worth it to them.
AngelicIceDiamond  +   751d ago
Yeah, but after a month the COD DLC hits Xbox, it becomes available for PS3 on time. At least Activision hasn't discriminated. But its Activision, I dunno if that's sayin much.

They say its bugs but the Xbox version has its fair share of problems as well as patches getting released simultaneously on both platforms.

Everyone knows Bethesda doesn't like PlayStation. And MS giving them money for timed exclusive DLC made it "Sweeter" for them.

I dunno why they're not releasing it for you guys.

The issue isn't a matter of caring, or not caring. The issue is Skyrim is a very complex game with massive amount of content which makes it very difficult to test.

Skyrim is having problems on all platforms.

And yet people still scream "GOTY!!!!"?
DragonKnight  +   751d ago
That really isn't an excuse. There are plenty of large complex games out there that have been handled a lot better than Bethesda is handling this. It's incompetence and greed.
shammgod  +   751d ago
Capcom created a huge open world game with many large enemies, tons of loot, NPCs, quests, and dungeons and had little to no technical problems. Stop defending Bethesda, they suck ass
Blacktric  +   751d ago
Who are you? The PR manager of Bethesda? Stop trying to justify crap like this. PlayStation consoles ALWAYS got the short end of the stick for all in-house developed Bethesda games. Fallout 3 was a horrible port with no pros against Xbox 360 version and same goes for Skyrim. Oblivion was ported by a Japanese game studio and New Vegas was done by Obsidian and had better textures at some parts in comparison to 360 version. Bethesda is just a flat out horrible developer that doesn't have any integrity. At all.
cgoodno  +   751d ago
***The issue isn't a matter of caring, or not caring. The issue is Skyrim is a very complex game with massive amount of content which makes it very difficult to test. ***

Then treat all your customers equally and don't announce release dates until you've actually tested it on all platforms to a working standard.

Re: those who will say "why hold back people because of the PS3's issues?"

Because it's not actually the fault of the PS3 and the issue is with Bethesda's long-used engine and their inability to update it to be bug free on any platform let alone working as intended on the PS3. Issues that don't come up on other game engines used to develop third-party games across the same platforms.
Omegabalmung  +   751d ago
Actually that would be a good idea but realistically it wont happen. If Bethesda is having a hard time getting Dawngaurd out of the gate, I'm pretty sure they will have a hard time getting the next DLC out also.
cyberninja  +   751d ago
I've never finished any game from Bethesda so they can shove that dlc up their ass, they not getting my money.
koehler83  +   751d ago
Fat chance. Fact is, Bethesda is plenty profitable with or without the PS3. You can't really threaten them in this way. All you do is hurt your own platform's community by setting a lower bar of revenue on that platform. Thus lowering the priority of it.

The only thing you can do is whine, bitch and complain non-stop until you start to actually interfere with the on-goings of their business.
Genmu  +   751d ago
is that why oblivion sold more on the ps3 than the xbot ?

troll harder next time
lategamer  +   751d ago
Oblivion sold more on 360, and when you add in the fact that 360 users also bought more DLC (there were more DLC content for 360 users to buy, while Knights of the Nine was given out for free with Oblivion PC), Oblivion probably made more profit on Xbox.

Well, I'm sure a lot of people would rather pay for a game from a studio that actually respects their customers, you know?

I got Skyrim, so I made the mistake of supporting a company that obviously doesn't care about half of their fanbase. I won't make that mistake again.
powlord  +   751d ago
The hype for Dawnguard is gone. We already know everything about the game. The reviews have been out for a while now, and we can find walkthrough's and tutorials everywhere on the net, it's already an old game.

I'm putting my PS3 aside for a while, now that Guild Wars 2 is coming out! So I won't be getting Dawnguard anythime soon, if ever...
nihonlight  +   751d ago
Bethesda, your priorities are effing backwards.
FIX THE VANILLA GAME!
WIth every release they break the game more, reduce the draw distance
and jerk around ps3 owners while we play their broken beta of skyrim
For a title that was supposed to be goty it's really a pos.

CMON MAN!!! bethesda get your lips off microsofts ass and start being realistic your just hurting future sales of your games as i sold skyrim and wont waste money on ur dlc or future games

Have you even played Skyrim? Its a massive open world RPG with descent graphics - Uncharted and God of War are very liner compared to Skyrim so of course they are going to less bugs on those games.

They never said Dawnguard would be out 30 days after the 360 exclusive, just that it was 360 exclusive for 30 days. It didn't come to PC until August 2nd.
HonestDragon  +   751d ago
This is very disappointing. Although I have Skyrim for the PC, they actually released it on the second of this month on Steam. Did I hear any announcement about that? Nope. Even then, I still got it because I really wanted to play.

Following a paragraph I found mentioning said release on Steam, a Bethesda spokesperson said that the Playstation 3 version was delayed because, "We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard's performance on the PS3." Figured I'd let those who have a PS3 know ahead of time.

But my personal side note on that quote: Really? It's been how long since the initial announcement of Dawnguard and even then the 30 plus days that Microsoft had it exclusively? What I'm saying is, if Skyrim can be released to all three platforms at the same time, why can't Dawnguard have been released like that as well?

Oh, that's right, Microsoft called dibs and everyone with a PC and PS3 had to wait. Yeah, that's a smart business practice right there. Bethesda has no clue how many PS3 customers they are going to lose now. And before anyone comments, yes, they did say that the Xbox 360 would have it exclusively for 30 days before being released on the other platforms.
"We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard's performance on the PS3."

It's never stopped em before. Fallout 3 & Skyrim ran like crap on the Ps3 yet they were "satisfied" enough to release the broken abomi,,, er game. If you ask me that "satisfied" comment is just a sh*t excuse to not tell us the worse news that's to come.

*3 months later*
Bethesda: Timed exclusivity is up. Here's your late broken dlc Ps3 owners. AND at full price, enjoy.

How do you explain the fact that it's out on PC already? PS3 just has issues with the DLC, accept it.

What a terribly misleading title. Even a simple question mark at the end could remedy this.
Kidmyst  +   751d ago
With Guild Wars 2 coming out, my Fall lineup of numerous games really kicks off. At this point when Skyrim DLC comes out for the PS3 It's on the backburner because I'll be busy with new games. By the time I get around to it. I'll probably see it discounted through Plus or free. Same happened with GTA4 and the DLC they hyped up. When it finalyl came out I had well moved on.
0pie  +   751d ago
this is a stupid article.
sazzrah  +   751d ago
I already traded in my PS3 copy of Skyrim, they're not getting any extra money out of me. I fell for the lies, saying that they developed a new engine for Skyrim... I was thinking: oh right, well this one must work properly on PS3 - surely they wouldn't make the same mistake! Only to discover AFTER it was released that it was the same effing engine with slight tweaks, none of the issues on PS3 from previous titles using the same engine were addressed, it just boggles the mind.

They won't be getting any money out of me until they properly change their engine, and since in all likelihood we won't be seeing another game by them until next gen, we can only hope we've seen the last of that terrible engine. Although I wouldn't put it past them to try and use it again even next gen. pfft.

all elders scrolls games are best on pc, thats where they started, thats where the are best played, the games are enourmous, the consoles lack the ram and the cpu and most importantly gpu to properly render and display the game

pop-in, screen tear, jaggies, bad shadows, corrupted textures, I get none of that on pc, my buddy plays on the 360, he loves it but he has had tons of issues, the framerates bad, the pop-in is atroucious, the load times are long

this is a pc game, where moddders can tweak the game for years to come

a new elder scrolls game is like a new operating system, it takes a whole community to find and work out all the bugs with all the possible varibles out there, and of course, with mods and a giagantic community of forums, the pc is the best place for that, on ps3/360, you just gotta cross ur fingers and wait for the dev to fix it for you

look at dark souls on pc, released with the horrible console res of 1024x720, in 23 min a modder fixed it, you can now have 4K textures downsampled to 1080p, lol....freaking amazing

heres the console version of dark souls, upscaled by the ps3 to 1280x720;

http://oyster.ignimgs.com/m...

here it is after one guy spent 23 min on a pc fixing it;

I have both xbox360 and ps3. I have learned to buy only sony exclusives for my ps3 and buy all multiplats for the 360. multiplats seem to have better deals with xbox or less glitches, and even for the most part look a little better. Which makes no sense to me because the ps3 is a lot more powerful than the 360.
Knight_Crawler  +   751d ago
How does this not make sense to you?

If its more powerful then that would mean that the tech is more powerful which will require extra work.

If your a mechanic and someones bring you a Ferrari and a Honda Civic both with engine problems which one do you think would be easier to fix?
Blankman85  +   751d ago
So now the PS3 is a supercar and the 360 a Civic? Nice.

It's just halfarsed behaviour from Bethesda. They could learn a lesson or two from Valve.
Valve brought a real bad version of Orange Box to PS3, they didn't even make it themselves. Then they asked and got help from the Sony team and really started to work on the PS3. They ended up really understanding the system and loving it which resulted in a great version of Portal 2. Valve turned around on the PS3 a 180 degrees because they took the time and effort.

This is the route Bethesda should take or they will have complaint after complaint for their PS3 versions. It's up to them.

"It's just halfarsed behaviour from Bethesda. They could learn a lesson or two from Valve.
Valve brought a real bad version of Orange Box to PS3, they didn't even make it themselves"

First of all Valve did not bring the Orange Box to the PS3 as you stated this was all EA's doing and Valve names just appears on the credits because the own all those ip's.

" Then they asked and got help from the Sony team and really started to work on the PS3."

Valve did not ask Sony for help - Sony offered Valve help but Valve declined and hired some PS3 programmers on there side - Valve stated many times that the reason why left 4 dead 1 and 2 were not on the PS3 was because they did not have enough staff.

Where they heel do you get your facts from?

I can see free for Plus members only, Fallout 3's dlc was (just not in the US).

But one could hope, my friend brought Dawnguard for 360 and has left his 360 with me to play it. I'm already bored with it seeing how I have beaten the game about ten times on the 360.
