If bigger is better then go with a vita with the bigger screen, bigger technology and all sorts.

I've got a vita and a 3DS.... they both play completely different types of games... where my vita plays more mature content, my 3DS plays more family oriented games... I like them both for what they are.. Personally, if you have to choose between the two, I'd go with the developer that makes the games you prefer..

Overall, I'm grateful to be able to afford both and enjoy them..... can't wait to get my hands on an XL on the 19th... All those game are going to be great played on that bigger screen!
