Square Enix registers "Final Fantasy 13 2" Domain Name

Domain name and copyright registry-spotting genius superannuation has spotted an interesting new domain name registration by the guys at Square Enix - finalfantasy13-2game.com.

The domain name Whois information can be viewed through this link, and shows that the domain registration was filed on Monday 11th January 2011. It's due to expire on the same day in 2013.

Tweeting, superannuation noted that the domain had been registered by "Corporation Service Company" - the same company that has registered domains for other Square Enix titles, including the official website for upcoming third person shooter MindJack, MindJackGame.com.

UFFSite has done a little extra investigation on top, and the same company has recently been used to register domains for Front Mission Evolved, Nier and Gun Loco, all major recent or upcoming Square Enix releases.

This makes it pretty damn likely that the registration is indeed from Square Enix - the question now is if the registration is just Square Enix merely domain-name squatting or if they're up to something more interesting - like putting out a full-blown sequel to Final Fantasy XIII.

If that's the case, it's likely that this newly registered domain i...

13-2 eh? I don't know what I think of this.

WildArmed4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

A chance to redeem FF13 in the eyes of many FF-fanatics?

To me FF13 was good, it was a fun experience.
Hardly the best FF out of the franchise, but it's definitely not the worst.

The game was beautiful, I wouldn't mind them re-using the textures and such to build a sequel to the game w/ the much demanded features (that were 'missing' from FF13 according to FF-fanatics WW)

@below

Lost Odyssey was a great game though. I think I missed your point >.<
I really liked LO, one of the better JRPG's I've played on my 360

Mystogan4860d ago

Lost Odyssey Was way better then Final Fantasy 13 and thats saying a lot,FF13 was crap.

but im waiting to see what happens with Versus 13 if it come's for 360 that is.

RedDead4860d ago

TO me it was the worst, howvever I agree, this is a chance to redeem it. It had good lore and potential. Still though, I just wished they would focus on the games everyone wants before jumpin into more projects.

Mystogan4860d ago

Oh yeah the point is why would they make a sequel?

blumatt4860d ago

All I can say is this had better be a separate game than Versus 13. I hope Versus 13 stays PS3 exclusive and they can make this FF13-2 a multiplat. I don't care as long as Versus 13 stays exclusive. I want to see a FF game using the PS3 fully;Versus should make for an amazing technical showpiece.

deafwing4860d ago

better do it right is all I care; I'm on my last 2 straws with FF; this game and Versus ... well maybe dissidia 012 for psp; that game is f'ing dope!

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Dragon_Hiko4860d ago

The last, and only true sequel to any of the main final fantasy franchise was X-2. And if we go by Squares record these last 5 years...taking into account that even back then X-2 was a very large step DOWN in quality, story(especially story), characters, game play....everything; do we REALLY want them to make a true sequel to the worst final fantasy ever NOW? I mean...to me it sounds like their shooting themselves in the head. I will not touch this game with a 10 foot pole.

TheDivine4860d ago

Agree that ff13 was a beautiful experience and i would love to see a sequal expand on it. They need to have npcs and towns and il be happy. I also agree that lost odyssey is better than ff13. Best jrpg this gen. It brought me back to old school jrpgs and the battle system is like ffx very strategic. I cant wait to see what they do.

Redempteur4860d ago

I say yes to a sequel ..

My real problem is ff13 is that there is little to be know about the character themselves when know a tiny part of their past but little to be know about their personalities .. thisis a great chance to FINALLY explore the whole pulse and know the characters better.

YES as long as they noticed the feedback users sent with the first FF13

HolyOrangeCows4860d ago

Less corridors and cutscenes, better combat.

Got it, Square? No? Didn't think you would.

AAACE54860d ago

@Mystogan... I can't believe so many people disagreed with you! SE is doing the same thing they did with FFXIII. They stopped any info from being leaked and next thing we knew, it was beind announced as a multiplat at E3!

One thing is suspicious though... at CES, MS said they still have games that haven't been announced yet, so you never know what's coming down the pipe!

Also, you asked, "Why would they make a sequel". My answer to that is, it sold pretty well despite the way some fans felt about it! A sequel could fix issues that people had with it and give them the opportunity to see if japanese gamers would buy the game on 360 if released at the same time as the Ps3 version.

Versus has been pushed back because of this probably. If this sells well, Versus XIII could go multiplat as well!

evrfighter4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

ya final fantasy is one major reason why I own a ps3 but I won't be buying another one anytime soon.

if ps3 owners were smart they'd skip versus but some pressure on SE.

bakasora4860d ago

why cant we just have 7-2?
and yes ff13 is garbage.

ExplosionSauce4860d ago

Is it gonna be good this time?

FOXDIE4860d ago

skv007, is fun to you pushing X for 10 hours?

WildArmed4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

Your ignorance is amusing ^^
I could say that for other many games too,
but then I'd be only showing my ignorant side

Eamon4860d ago

Unfortunately. I'd much rather have that than FF13-2.

TreMillz4860d ago

for the 3rd straight final fantasy fail this generation...

iamtehpwn4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

13 Wasn't the greatest FF, This is a great chance to redeem it. Considering how far long the engine, many assets, story, and other things are a long...we can see this game in about <2 years.

I hope by the time this thing is released (If), we'll look back at the original 13 and say "XIII-2 was the real game, the original was just to fill us in on the back story."

SuperLupe4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

I am busy playing FF13 right now. I'm at the end of chapter 7 and 14 hours in, I have put it aside for the moment and havent decided yet if I'll play it again.

The main reason being the horribly boring story. I've been waiting 14 hours for it to pick up.

Those who have already finished it, does the story get better ? I mean I'm kind of half way through and the story still sucks...

edit: I've played and loved every FF since FF6 so I'm not a newcomer to FF games.

iamtehpwn4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

Yeah, toward the end the story gets really good. In fact, the last half of the game is very enjoyable. It's just that awkward piece of shit called the first 20 hours of the game... The Later half, once you get to Gran Pulse, can customize your party, and can develop your characters with any Job you want to...then the game is fun.

SuperLupe4860d ago

Hmm so should just give it a second chance...oh well I'll take your advice and see if its worth it. If 25h in it still sucks I'm gonna give it up. Will be the first FF I play and dont finish.

WildArmed4860d ago (Edited 4860d ago )

I agree w/ iamtehpwn.
The game gets amazing past Gran Pulse.
I've spent a good 40hours+ in Gran Pulse and beyond so when I think of FF13, I get pleasant memories.
The first 20 hours were pretty bad.

As for the story, yes it picks up, but don't expect it to be anything as epic as FF6/FF3 (which imo was the best FF).

Hope ya enjoy it, btw..
unlike the previous FFs, the gameplay shines more than the story.
So enjoy the gameplay, it's unique and most likely you aren't going to see the same combat style ever again (as w/ all FF games, they usually try diff. combat styles each installment)

The first FF I didn't finish was FFX-2.
Then shortly followed by FF12.
The FF past 10 didn't really stick to me.
FF13 was a nice change in pace, but like I said in my top post, it's hardly the best of the bunch.

NateCole4860d ago

The story for me is still lame right until the end. Spent 67Hrs playing it.

Gothdom4860d ago

FF13 has the stupidest story ever made in a video game... even Bad Dudes' story was better.

The villain makes no sense and by the end. Vanille and Hope are still annoying in the last video. The ending is short and unsatisfying. I wish they would've failed and all died. Then maybe I would've cared for a 13-2, but after finishing this game, I say F.U. S.E!

nsnsmj4860d ago

I just recently got FF13. It's not as bad as other people have made it out to be, but I will admit that is lacking in some areas compared to past FF's.

SuperLupe4860d ago

Yeah I was expecting worse...I dont mind the linearity and I find the combat system to be entertaining. But I play FF's for the story and for the moment thats where it seriously falls short.

FOXDIE4860d ago

Anyone wanna play a sequel to one of the shittiest games ever made? I think not!

Kamikaze1354860d ago

This is good news. I love FFXIII and hope the sequel expands upon the first game.

TheHater4860d ago

Consider they cut enough content to make another game the length of FFXIII

http://www.andriasang.com/e...

Deathstroke4860d ago

FF13 was garbage and if they're making a sequel to that then I'm sure the sequel will suck just as much. It won't be worth playing (even though their games aren't worth playing this gen to begin with).

Square Enix Declares $140m Loss Amid Game Pipeline Shakeup

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth publisher Square Enix has declared a $140m loss based on a shakeup of its internal development pipeline.

Furesis4d ago

What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.

-Foxtrot4d ago

I hope IX is still on the cards

Just a straight up remake which they expand a little bit nothing over ambitious

If IX dosent happen then VI and VIII will never be thought of.

Kakashi Hatake3d ago

6 and 8 were way more p popular games despite today's cult following of 9.

blackbeld3d ago

I want my FF8 remake! Can't believe they cancelled it.

TiredGamer4d ago

What are they doing? Sales are falling and the costs are out of control. Big releases need to be absolute sales home runs now, and Final Fantasy sales have stagnated.

Now we know why Square didn’t fall over themselves to remake the original FF7 all these years ago. It certainly wasn’t a license to print money, at least not with what the expectations were. Each of these full on remakes drains an enormous amount of company resources for a razor thin profit margin.

TwoPicklesGood4d ago

Breaking the game up into multiple parts was a mistake IMO.

blackblades3d ago

The loses came from cancelling games nothing else.

Tapani3d ago

They lost the magic in the remakes. And the story is incomplete. The original FF7 is still way better. The Remake / Rebirth are just fan service. Like an Anime/Manga with "optional" filler content. FF7 had pretty much zero filler, it was paced extremely well, and still today flows much better than the grindy story and spongey enemy battles in the remakes.

babadivad3d ago

If they released it at once on all platforms, they would have made all of their money back. Could have been on to an FF8 or 9 remake. Ready to cash in again on nostalgia like Capcom. This is their fault for trying to milk the title.

Once I head they were breaking it up into parts, I lost all interest.

neutralgamer19923d ago

I hope people understand usually when a loss is declared it means a game which had been in development got cancelled. For example Sony Santa Monica before GOW-PS4 had cancelled a project which Sony had spent 7 figures on

As far as square is concerned they release a bad game once a year. Forspoken anyone?

For those making comments on remake not selling well, I hope y’all realize that Sony is the only reason this remake is happening. If Sony didn’t fund it the remake wouldn’t be happening. Just like Konami didn’t want to remake SH2 because development costs of 100 plus million

shadowT4d ago

Do not miss Final Fantasy 16. Great game!

raWfodog4d ago

I'm waiting for them to release the complete edition bundle, but it's definitely on my list.

PhillyDonJawn4d ago

Wth is going on with the gaming industry?

mandf4d ago

Corporate investors taking everything

TiredGamer4d ago

Not rocket science. Compare sales numbers, development cycles, and budgets to the previous gens. We are all collectively burning up the industry from the inside out. Expectations are ludicrously high now for every release and sales are dropping for even the most prestigious of series.

We used to be satisfied paying $50-60 for a game that took 1/100th the budget and staff to make. Now gamers feel cheated if they have to pay the same for a game that took 100x the budget. We may be reaching the end of the line for this model of gaming.

wiz71913d ago

@tiredgamer I think your point is one that ppl don’t understand and you hit it on the nose .. some gamers don’t want to take accountability but it’s some of the gamers fault the industry is where it’s at .. we as gamers set the standards for the industry not the shareholders , ppl forget that the shareholders and the industry want and need OUR Money. Both the Xbox and PlayStation are seeing a drop in hardware , the industry is very stagnant right now.

Tacoboto3d ago

Speaking to Square:

Turns out their mismanagement wasn't related to the western studios they dumped to Embracer, but their own fault.

With regards to Xbox - a good way to kill your brand is to pull support on high quality titles and only dump B and C-tier titles to it

With regards to PC - Epic Games Story exclusivity for any duration and piss-poor optimization will hurt you.

With regards to FF Pixel Remasters - y'all messed up by barely releasing them on physical, like wtf that was free money!

And lastly, you don't help a franchise by releasing a mainline title that undermines every title that came before it. FFXVI was a DMC-like with bottom-of-the-barrel side quests and I can't imagine that helping Rebirth at all considering its marketing is directly tied to how big that game is.

Tacoboto3d ago

Sony is getting their best titles and with the most polish, so what about it? Nintendo gets their top properties too, for titles that can run on Switch hardware.

It's the other fanbases that get the second- and third-class treatment from Square. If that's due to agreements with Sony, that's not a Sony issue but a Square one for accepting those terms. Sony is doing its best to look out for Sony.

wesnytsfs3d ago

sales and stupid practices like exclusives.

TiredGamer4d ago

The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.

CS74d ago

Sad. Rebirth was one of my favorite games in a long time. Should have sold more.

CrimsonWing694d ago

Oh I’m with you. What’s worse is they can say, “Well we tried to make this amazing game and spend all this money on, but not enough people showed an interest. So no more of these since we can’t take a hit like that.”

The industry is going to take a dramatic shift. Mark my words on this.

rpvenom4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I think there is quite a large portion of individuals like myself who held out on buying it on PS5 because I can get it on PC eventually. To be able to mod the game and also have custom graphical settings to my liking

gold_drake3d ago

same

but im not sure if it matters at all. im sure they made sony pay a hefty sum for the 3parter to come on ps5 exclusively. so watever they made in sales, might have come bk in profits for square, but i dont know
and we dont know what "underperformed" even means for square.

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

shinoff21834d ago

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies124d ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC4d ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff21834d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

FinalFantasyFanatic4d ago

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix4d ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

CrimsonWing694d ago

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

H910d ago

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

VincentVanBro8d ago (Edited 8d ago )
