Final Fantasy 16's DLC Director on The Rising Tide, 16's Success, and What Makes a Great Expansion

Push Square: "Final Fantasy 16 was one of our favourite games of 2023, and so we wanted to find out more about The Rising Tide — the title's second and final expansion — ahead of its release on the 18th April. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to land an interview with Takeo Kujiraoka — the veteran Square Enix dev who's actually the director of Final Fantasy 16's DLC, having previously been a lead combat designer for the base game."

RTX 4090 can't run Final Fantasy XVI at 4K 60 FPS stable without relying on DLSS, benchmark claims

According to these new benchmark reports, Final Fantasy 16 can’t deliver 60 FPS while running native 4K resolution.

That's because it's a Square Enix release lol.

That's honestly a good explanation, Square-Enix is notoriously bad for PC ports, even amongst Japanese developers. I don't think they ever fixed the Nier Automata, or World of Final Fantasy. I think they eventually did fix Chrono Trigger, but that was 2 or 3 years after release.

Bad pc optimization say it isn’t so

seanpitt237h ago

It was like this with Alan wake 2 DLSS is a life saver, I can imagine the 5090 without DLSS will give you the same performance of a 4090 with DLSS

badz1491m ago

So now it's SE that is bad because the most powerful GPU out there is also struggling with the game. I remember people were blaming the PS5 as "outdated" and "weak" and some other things when the game came out. Double standard much?

Square Enix REALLY needs to just find a solid company to outsource these PC ports... They are just butchering their own releases on PC and it's very sad to see.

Goodguy012d ago

Ran the demo and it was awful on my 3070 lol.

Fishy Fingers2d ago

Yeah i strugged on a 3090ti (i have a stupid 49in ultrawide). But what was interesting, changing the settings and resolution made little difference. Just a poor port.

But tbh I found the 75% of the demo being cutscenes harder to get through than the performance (but im not a FF guy).

VIK21214h ago

there's UW mod out there, it fixes a bunch of other performance issues too.

Google FFXVIFix by Lyall.

LonDonE2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

i had the same issue as did my daughter on her 3070 rig, but if you install the mod dlssg-to-fsr3-0.100 (Universal) Which tricks games and your nvidia driver to run in unsigned mode and so it thinks its a 40 series card and so you can use frame gen and fsr3 it makes the game perform much better. Granted we should not need to do this but this mod works on near enough any game and can duble your frame rate. I can run the game at 144fps and my daughters its 120fps witjh the mod.

You can also get a mod which unlocks the cutscenes so they run at 60 vs the official game setting of 30fps..
Square need to fix up! i want to double dip as loved the game on my PS5 but sadly it killed my launch ps5.
Too scared to play it on my current ps5. So pc would be perfect..google the name of the mod

Its nor true.Ultra at 4K native gets you 70+FPS with a 4090.

Profchaos13h ago

What are the rest of the specs you're using for that

--Onilink--5h ago

But it also drops below 60 from time to time, particularly in the most demanding sections, its not locked.

Which is literally what the article says

Neonridr1d 8h ago

no, it fluctuated from 50-70. Which, at native 4K isn't all that bad. Compared to what we get with consoles.

Markdn14h ago

And your point about consoles is relevant why, trying to justify the 4090 again?

Profchaos12h ago

The article states no dlss it's not smooth that's the same as what you said so you just agreed with the article
