Sony should follow Microsoft and bring PlayStation exclusives to Xbox

Microsoft has confirmed that four first-party games are heading to PlayStation, and with Sony planning to adapt its own exclusivity plans, we think now is a great time for Sony's first-party games to head to Xbox.

No.

Sony should not only not put their games on xbox, Sony and Nintendo should refuse to let Microsoft profit by peddling their old failing games on their consoles.

Microsoft is costing them more than the pennies they will make selling their old games and dollar store indies. Let Microsoft suffer the burden of buying up all these publishers with no way to properly support them.

Einhander1972105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

And I just want to add that this BS is exactly what Microsoft wants, they want to put a bunch of crappy indies and failing games on PlayStation then pay websites to write a bunch of BS about how PlayStation now "owes" Microsoft it's games.

This is the same scam Microsoft has been running since they duped Sony into agreeing to cross play.

Where are the calls for Nintendo to release it's games on xbox eh? Of course that's not getting written, this is just another scam scheme media smear campaign cooked up and paid for by Microsoft.

InUrFoxHole105d ago

What bad game is xbox trying to put on PS? Please explain to me how having more places to play games is bad for gamers...

_SilverHawk_105d ago

Yeah sony should follow Microsoft and sell less games and gaming consoles also because it seems like xbox plans have been very successful.

crazyCoconuts105d ago

@silverhawk - correct. May I be so bold as to suggest Sony should hire Phil away as their next CEO so that he can repeat his winning formula at PlayStation

fr0sty105d ago

Sony is the market leader, for them to take their exclusive games, which give people reason to buy a PS5 over an Xbox Series S/X, and give them to Microsoft would be stupid. Microsoft is doing it because they have no other choice, their shareholders are getting pissed that they spent nearly $100 billion buying out the industry and still aren't selling any more consoles or gamepass subs (their gamepass subs are at the same point they were 2 years ago, 34 million, and that's INCLUDING Xbox Live Gold subs). Sony does have a choice, they can kick back and let their competition release their games on PS5, and still keep their exclusives, giving people more reason to buy PS5 and less reason to buy Xbox.

Cacabunga104d ago

How can ps bring their games to Xbox when they are abandoning hardware??? So people who write these article aware of what they are writing?

shinoff2183104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

Funny thing about cross-platform alpt of these younger ones don't know or even refuse to acknowledge is that Sony was more open to this it was originally ms that had the issue with it. At the time they were high and mighty with the 360. I'm not looking it up but look up cross play Defiance.

Far as bad games ms is pushing idk yet the 4 rumored games have a decent track record, I'd buy grounded and hinfi if released physically. Haven't heard of then trying to push redfall or anything.

Rossi-4-ever104d ago

What xbox wants is games like God of War, Horizon & GT7 on their console because they fully well know PlayStation make the best games even though the Xbox hardware is better..!!!

itsmebryan104d ago

@_silverHawk
Did you miss when Sony missed their console sales target by 4 MILLION? What about Sony's operating income dropping by 26%? That means they have over 25% less money for R&D, game development , etc... Those numbers are straight from Sony. Sony is not doing as well as you pretend. That is why they are looking for new revenue sources because PS5 and PS5 only games sales are not making it.

InUrFoxHole104d ago

@Frosty
Mark my words. Sony will be day and date on pc and will have more games on other platforms. If we know anything it's more $ is what these companies want

Jingsing103d ago (Edited 103d ago )

They also duped Sony into releasing games on PC too which they didn't need to do, Spider-man on Steam 60k+ units vs 10 million on PlayStation. Sony won't feel the pain of that move until PS6. When PS6 launches many people will say, these games are coming to PC so I'll just wait.

Andrew336103d ago

@Jingsing what are you smoking? Spiderman on PC did fantastic for Sony and when 2 comes out on PC it will be even better.

Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered has sold 1.5 million PC copies.

Marvel's Spider-Man still isn't done writing its page in gaming history, even as Insomniac keeps teasing villains for the sequel. Namely, the Remastered edition of the game just broke a UK sales record by becoming Sony's biggest PC launch in the country, surpassing God of War by a significant margin.

VariantAEC100d ago

PlayStation was first to allow cross play back in the PS2 era with games like Final Fantasy Online between PS2 and PC. PS reintroduced cross play between different PlayStation console generations PS2, PSP, PS3, and PS Vita. That was all well before Xbox started allowing crossplay in the Xbox One era between Xbox consoles and PCs to bolster Microsoft's online engagement numbers.

VariantAEC100d ago

@Jingsing
PS also released games on PC way back in the 90s. Not sure they were day and date then, but most aren't day and date now. I agree PS didn't need to do it and you are one of the few people who also recognizes these games aren't selling well on PC either. PC gamers are pirates first and foremost. The PC audience is more than 7 times larger than the entire current-gen console market and yet the global game revenue on PC is mostly relegated to F2P microtransactions... not software sales. Makes me really wonder why Steam even exists. Most PC gamers probably just steal quite literally everything given real software sales numbers for games... either that or hardcore PC gamers are actually one of the smallest audiences.

"Sony and Nintendo should refuse to let Microsoft profit by peddling their old failing games on their consoles."

Then there'll be lawsuits heading their way...

Einhander1972105d ago

Sony and Nintendo, Steam and Epic control licensing on their own platform, they do not have to offer licenses, they deny games all the time.

But it would be karmically hilarious if Microsoft had to sue to get Sony and Nintendo to save them.

VenomUK104d ago

@Einhander1972 Great opening post that sums up the strong sentiment of many.

I’m of the opinion that if Microsoft does bring its shovelware of Grounded than Sony should tell it to back off - that kinda nonsense actually would demean the PlayStation platform.

tay8701104d ago (Edited 104d ago )

They don't have to allow it. But they will gladly take their 30% cut

Jin_Sakai105d ago

“Sony and Nintendo should refuse to let Microsoft profit by peddling their old failing games on their consoles.“

Sony will get a 30% cut on all those games and PlayStation fans get to enjoy those once Xbox exclusives. Just don’t expect Sony to release their games on Xbox because it isn’t going to happen. Xbox isn’t even selling well enough to warrant the trouble.

Einhander1972105d ago

Thirty percent is nothing compared to how much xbox's existence costs them.

Microsoft is taking 70% and using that money to undermine Sony in every way possible, this whole thing is a con to undermine Sony, you're in an article calling for Sony to give up its software and other advantages.

Microsoft gains FAR more than Sony does by having their software on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Sony and Nintendo should not make it's business be helping Microsoft bottom line,

When Microsoft stops making xbox then we can start talking about putting their games on other consoles.

Christopher105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

**** Microsoft gains FAR more than Sony does by having their software on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Sony and Nintendo should not make it's business be helping Microsoft bottom line, ***

No, just no.

First, Sony gets 30% off the full price. The cost to them is a massive fraction of that.

Second, Microsoft doesn't get 70%, they get whatever is left after marketing/development costs. Including on going costs.

Third, Microsoft also loses marketing to just one console and the higher likelihood that the much larger market reach of Sony. They could lose Xbox sales to people who own both (which is likely most Xbox owners). Game Pass is the biggest thing on Xbox right now, otherwise most people buy their games on Steam compared to Xbox. This will be even more with the transition to a PlayStation release.

With the way Microsoft and Sony are doing it, curating releases of older titles to other platforms, it is the perfect solution. It gets them more money, but also the platform holder. And, it increases the market reach of possible fans of their games (a la Minecraft). Everyone is winning in that game while still maintaining the importance of exclusivity for new releases.

I don't think Microsoft will do same day releases. That would be the worst outcome for them. It would be giving up the whole point of their platform. Same with Sony. I do think certain titles held by third-party license holders will likely force some same day releases, but I don't see it happening otherwise unless one of these hardware manufacturers goes completely out of business.

Einhander1972105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

"First, Sony gets 30% off the full price. The cost to them is a massive fraction of that."

If you want to try to nitpick like that Sony Steam Nintendo ect. don't get 30% either most services have a sliding scale based on sales. And besides that it costs Sony money to host the files and maintain them on their service. And regardless of percent Microsoft gets more than Sony, end of story.. Make a real argument don't try to nitpick what I say.

"Third, Microsoft also loses marketing to just one console and the higher likelihood that the much larger market reach of Sony. They could lose Xbox sales to people who own both (which is likely most Xbox owners). If Microsoft thought they were going to lose more than they were making they wouldn't do this, basic logic. They can't sell crap on their own console so they have very little to lose, especially on old arse games and dollar store indies.

"With the way Microsoft and Sony are doing it, curating releases of older titles to other platforms, it is the perfect solution. It gets them more money, but also the platform holder. Sony and Nintendo can do this without selling Microsoft games on their platforms or their games on xbox. You might have heard Sony sold over 21m consoles last year, and Nintendo has sold over 130m Switch's. Sony also holds the record for software sales.

The whole problem here is your whole argument is based on some notion that Sony and Nintendo should want xbox to exist at all or that they need to sell games on xbox. If xbox goes under all those gamers would play their games somewhere else. Sony and Nintendo would make more money without competition.

I don't want Sony or Nintendo to give up ANY market share to help xbox, I want xbox to cease to exist and then Sony and Nintendo can take whatever market share is left. And then Microsoft can put whatever games they still create on PlayStation and Nintendo like all the other publishers do.

Sony and Nintendo should not help Microsoft take their market share, it's as simple as that.

Christopher105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

***If Microsoft thought they were going to lose more than they were making they wouldn't do this, basic logic. They can't sell crap on their own console so they have very little to lose, especially on old arse games and dollar store indies. ***

I'm guessing you just want Microsoft out of the game entirely. Cool. That's a shit deal for us gamers. We need Microsoft in the game. If not for the purpose of at least not selling their studios off to Tencent or the like, then to maintain competition with Sony. Much like Microsoft buying up publishers means less competition, so does Microsoft leaving mean the exact same thing. Sony isn't here benevolently. They will maximize profits.

So, if you're going into this argument with this, what I would call, rabid viewpoint? Then there's no arguing with you otherwise. You just want them gone and there is no 'logic' here other than that for you.

But, if you're not, then your logic is all wrong on what this means for the balance of power and what it means for how hurt Microsoft is in the game that they are even testing this out with old games. This is a potential sway towards Microsoft expanding their software options to more than just PC because obviously they're not getting everything they want with their current model of business. Especially with the near $90b tag over their head and the need for Game Pass to start making bucket loads of profit to make sense.

Chevalier104d ago

"That's a shit deal for us gamers. We need Microsoft in the game. If not for the purpose of at least not selling their studios off to Tencent or the like"

What? The only thing anyone should need from Microsoft is to start making better games. It's not Playstation nor Nintendo's issue that MS/Microsoft can't compete. It still blows my mind that they have such insane resources and still fail to make good games.

VariantAEC100d ago

Einhander1972
These MS games will not sell that well on PSN. I am personally interested in HiFi Rush but that would've been on PS5 day one if MS didn't buy Tengo. Outside of that... I don't care. Nothing MS has is interesting me or most other people so unless HiFi Rush sells ten times more units than Minecraft, I'm guessing this won't even slow the sinking ship that is Xbox.

"Sony should not only not put their games on xbox, Sony and Nintendo should refuse to let Microsoft profit by peddling their old failing games on their consoles."

This is *why* Xbox gamers don´t want Xbox games to be on Playstation either!

You want everything from Xbox while giving nothing in return. Just remember where you stand next time you go out asking Xbox games to be on your favorite platform.

Einhander1972105d ago

The only thing I want from Microsoft is stop making xbox and competing with Sony.

Hofstaderman105d ago

I never wanted xbox games. If any xbox games were worth it I would have bought a Series console. I am not alone in this reasoning based on xbox sales..

Solitariussaint105d ago

Nobody wants Xbox games which is why MS is so desperate to go multiplat now.

Elda105d ago

I own all 3 current consoles but if I solely owned a PS5 I couldn't care less about those 4 old games (HiFi Rush, Pentiment, Sea Of Theives & Grounded) coming to PS. PS or Nintendo doesn't need any XB exclusives...not one knowing PS & it's exclusives do well on its own.

outsider1624105d ago

"You want everything from Xbox while giving nothing in return. Just remember where you stand next time you go out asking Xbox games to be on your favorite platform."

You say that like all ps gamers lobbied to microsoft to give up ganes on playstation. No one asked for any of your xbox games on playstation. No ps gamer asked for it. Microsoft made the decision to do that

Jin_Sakai104d ago

“Nobody wants Xbox games which is why MS is so desperate to go multiplat now.”

What if they sell well in PlayStation? Do we call them PlayStation games then.

FinalFantasyFanatic104d ago

LOL! A baseball game? The only reason it's on XB because the MLB owns the licence & wanted The Show to be multi-plat. You won't be seeing any PS exclusive action/adventure single player games on an XB.

MrNinosan104d ago

They have Destiny 2 as well.

Christopher105d ago

Sony doesn't need the market share help like Xbox.

But...

***Sony and Nintendo should refuse to let Microsoft profit by peddling their old failing games on their consoles. ***

This is not good thinking. And it honestly sounds more petty than anything else. Sony and Nintendo will take a 30% cut of all game sales just for Microsoft having to use their platform, which means for doing the same thing they do for everyone else, they will be getting paid to compete even more competently against Microsoft. Restricting it only hurts the industry and their bottom line, doesn't help.

Einhander1972105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

Microsoft doesn't deserve more than zero percent market share. And certainly it's not Sony and Nintendo's job to help Microsoft get market share, that is crazy talk.

Thirty percent is less than the seventy percent Microsoft is getting, and Microsoft is selling them something they would have gotten if Microsoft didn't buy up publishers, which they are now using to ransom and bully Sony into doing what they want.

And you call me petty in the face of what Microsoft is doing and the fact they would happily put PlayStation out of business and have taken some of the biggest franchises away from PlayStation owners for nothing other than self serving goals. But I'm the petty one... sure...

If Microsoft buys all the publishers (who had very profitable businesses) then can't fund them and damages the industry whos fault is that... it's not Sony and Nintendo's fault.

Are you going to blame Sony and Nintendo for the 5000 people who have lost their jobs due to mergers next? Is it Sony and Nintendo's fault that Microsoft created a game service that destroyed their own profits?

It's absolutely bonkers to think Sony and Nintendo have ANY responsibility in propping up Microsoft.

Microsoft 100% would put PlayStation and Nintendo out of business in a heartbeat.

Christopher105d ago

***And you call me petty in the face of what Microsoft is doing***

Hey, I hate it, but Microsoft is doing legal stuff and spending tons of money to do it that could result in utter failure by 2027. They're going an extremely risky route.

***If Microsoft buys all the publishers (who had very profitable businesses) then can't fund them and damages the industry whos fault is that...***

Theirs. And, guess what, their share holders will force them to sell those purchases to make back losses and to focus on more profitable areas of the business. Microsoft isn't just willing to lose money over and over when they're hurting primarily themselves and their bottom line. Sony and Nintendo aren't reliant on Microsoft still.

***Are you going to blame Sony and Nintendo for the 5000 people who have lost their jobs due to mergers next?***

You're confused and blaming the wrong people. Blame the governments for allowing this level of centralization under one company. Blame ABK for selling in the first place. Blame Gearbox and others with executives focused on lining their pockets with money than concerns for the industry.

*** It's absolutely bonkers to think Sony and Nintendo have ANY responsibility in propping up Microsoft. ***

What's bonkers is you thinking that Microsoft putting their games on other platforms is a sign that they're using Sony and Nintendo and not that they are reliant on them to continue existing. This is a sign of Microsoft heading more and more towards being a software company, not them putting the competition out of business.

Einhander1972105d ago

"Hey, I hate it,"

No, you encourage it. You are encouraging it right now.

"Theirs. And, guess what, their share holders will force them to sell those purchases to make back losses and to focus on more profitable areas of the business. Microsoft isn't just willing to lose money over and over when they're hurting primarily themselves and their bottom line. Sony and Nintendo aren't reliant on Microsoft still."

What does that have to do with anything? Let them bleed money, why should I, Sony or Nintendo care? If their shareholder force them to sell, good, hope it happens sooner than later. Hopefully Sony and Nintendo not helping them sell games and make profits accelerates that process. That's kind of my whole point.

"You're confused and blaming the wrong people. Blame the governments for allowing this level of centralization under one company. Blame ABK for selling in the first place. Blame Gearbox and others with executives focused on lining their pockets with money than concerns for the industry."

What the heck are you even talking about... all your doing is shifting the blame and it's a pretty sad attempt at that... This is also just a sad tired "oh hate the government" "government bad" excuse, I'm disappointed you chose to go down that route, perhaps you think by saying "government bad" you'll get upvotes, and on this site you might, but it's still wrong and a bad argument.

(P.S. the FTC is still fighting this merger.)

"What's bonkers is you thinking that Microsoft putting their games on other platforms is a sign that they're using Sony and Nintendo and not that they are reliant on them to continue existing. This is a sign of Microsoft heading more and more towards being a software company, not them putting the competition out of business."

No, if that was true they wouldn't be making another console and they wouldn't be putting old games and indies on PlayStation. When Microsoft starts putting big games on PlayStation and Nintendo and stops competing with them directly then you can make that statement, not until then. Until then they are just using this to to help a business which DIRECTLY competes and takes money away from PlayStation and Nintendo.

FLAT OUT Microsoft is doing this to benefit themselves, not Sony or Nintendo. This is not altruism.

Christopher105d ago

*** No, you encourage it. You are encouraging it right now. ***

No, I'm not. This isn't some all or none game. World doesn't work like that. I'm not sitting here saying "Everyone should buy Microsoft games right now! If you don't buy, you're hurting Microsoft and they need money more than Sony or Nintendo so you have to buy their games!"

Me explaining how business works to you isn't me going "Man, I'm really happy we're in this spot in the first place." Nor do I think "Bleed Microsoft dry and force them to sell everything off to another conglomerate." is the right answer here.

So, no. You're just wrong. You're arguing irrationally.

***What the heck are you even talking about... all your doing is shifting the blame and it's a pretty sad attempt at that...***

You don't understand how any of this works. Honestly. In order to stop businesses from doing anything, you need governments and agencies focused on stopping them from doing too much. Without them, Microsoft would have won ages ago.

You're arguing irrationally and ignorantly.

*** FLAT OUT Microsoft is doing this to benefit themselves, not Sony or Nintendo. This is not altruism. ***

FLAT OUT. Microsoft is being forced to do this because of the losing position they've put themselves into and this benefits Sony and Nintendo more than them. Sony and Nintendo aren't changing their market reach, Microsoft is losing theirs. Plain and simple.

ApocalypseShadow105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

Hold your ground ein. Chris is not understanding that Microsoft is trying to put themselves in a position of control. If they control the most popular franchises, they can try and dictate terms on who gets what and for how much.

It's definitely a ploy. Sony was already getting these games and profiting on their releases on PlayStation from 3rd parties. Now, Microsoft is in the position to tell others what they can get and profit off of their competitors. If they can't support themselves and grow themselves, then they want to profit off of the other two. Which is unheard of in the game industry where your competitor makes money off of your console business.

Actually, it's not unheard of when it comes to Microsoft. If you remember the Immersion lawsuit, Microsoft gave in about haptic feedback. Then, invested into Immersion with their lawsuit against Sony to profit off of the lawsuit. Even though Immersion tried to squirm out of paying Microsoft, they later made Microsoft richer off of Sony.

And I'm right there with you. Sony and Nintendo should deny Microsoft access to their consoles. And let things fall where they may. If Microsoft wants to buy up the industry, then make them pay for it. If jobs are lost, it will be Microsoft's fault, Kotick and every greedy bum involved in selling those developers to Microsoft.

The only way to let Microsoft know that what they did was unquestionably ridiculous, is to make them pay in the millions of dollars in losses as their platform continues to shrink. The industry can survive without Microsoft. After the industry crash, things picked up because of Nintendo. When all the other competitors dropped out the race, Nintendo and Sega thrived. The industry thrived when Sony targeted teens and young adults. When Sega dropped out, the industry continued. Microsoft leaving will not stop the industry from going. It'll be rocky, then thrive once more. Screw Microsoft. They deserve no Sony games on their platform. And they don't deserve porting their games to others after being shady and spending billions to control the most popular franchises.

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz1d 1h ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand1251d ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?

Hope SH2 gets more polish before release.

I’m not paying $94 CAD for what they’ve shown me. Looks rough as sin.

Ive seen better lip syncing during a Punch and Judy show

Sonic18812d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This looks terrible. Capcom should have done the remake 😂 The animations and gameplay looks stiff.

-Foxtrot2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Okay. I was saying before in another article how SH2 looked better than the last trailer, which is true but damn this looks rough as hell.

I wanted RE4 / Dead Space remake quality

Sonic18812d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I wouldn't buy it for $70 dollars. Maybe when it's on sale.

-Foxtrot2d ago

Yeah full price, deluxe editions, Konami are f***** tripping here.

CrimsonWing692d ago

Cheat providers for competitive games should be illegal.

Rynxie2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This is what developers and manufacturers should do. I know going after cheat devices/makers is a cat and mouse game, and cost money. However, they can get that money back by sueing these manufacturers of cheat devices. Take a page from Nintendo's playbook.
