hopefully VRR via a firmware update is released for docked play as well (like the PS5 did post release)

Jin_Sakai7d ago

Yes VRR more than anything. I just hope it’s possible through a software update and not a hardware related issue. Surely Nintendo thought this out.

Neonridr3d ago

the PS5 enabled it with a firmware patch. Zero reason why Nintendo can't do the same here. The system already supports the feature.

Not a knock on Switch 2 but it’s not made for it. Maybe a lower resolution at 120fps or 4k at a low fps but it’s not capable of both.

The article is very clear that this is not about having the game run internally at 4k120, but just having the output resolution be that, so the TV is not the one doing the upscaling (of the output)

There's actually a pretty long list of games on PS5 that support 120hz. Even more with 60+hz unlocked, and that isn't even counting PS5 Pro.

I like how you completely ignored "4K 120 Hz" and just went for 120Hz.

badz1497d ago

@Blue

and? are you expecting 4K 120Hz from a $400 machine? you do know that even the 5090 - MSRP $2000, is struggling to run modern games at 4K 120Hz without DLSS, right?

Eidolon7d ago

120hz doesn't mean 120 FPS.

BlueDaBaDee7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

@badz149 The subject matter is "4K 120 Hz", not "120 Hz" just cause I called out fr0sty's poor attempt at damage control doesn't mean you have to have a cry about it.

fr0sty5d ago

Come on, people... hz means "cycles per second". You have no idea what you are talking about. I do this for a living, so let me educate you... 120fps means the screen is updated, or cycled, 120 times per second with a new frame. The frames cycle 120 times per second. 120 cycles per second... hertz means cycles per second... so 120hz IS 120fps when talking about displays and consoles/PCs.

Neonridr3d ago

@fr0sty - consider yourself lucky you still have a job if you do this for a living

A 120Hz monitor can display up to 120fps if the content is providing that many frames. If the content is outputting fewer frames (e.g., 60fps), the monitor will still refresh 120 times per second, but it will show the same frame multiple times. If the content outputs more than 120fps, the monitor will only display up to 120, as that is its maximum refresh rate.

err...is it even HDMI 2.1 on that thing?

repsahj8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Yes, according to the dock teardown. It contains HDMI hardware chip of Realtek RTD2175N that supports 4K 120hz. And the HDMI included on the Switch 2 is HDMI 2.1.

fsfsxii7d ago

Its not, its a bog standard hdmi 2.0

What did greedy and lazy Nintendo work on the last 8 years? Seriously, why can`t the dock do 120 Hz 4K? Ridiculous.

Fast Fusion (NS2) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "If Fast Fusion featured online multiplayer, better image quality, and 6 or 7 more race tracks, it would enter the game-of-the-year conversation. Even without those things, it's yet another gem from Shin'en Multimedia. The Munich-based studio has once again punched above its weight, delivering a blisteringly fast, mechanically nimble futuristic racer with outstanding track design and excellent music. Switch 2 owners: go ahead and purchase this one without fear of regret. It's thrilling, it's challenging, and at $15, it's an absolute steal."
