I feel this is just a stop gap until their own dedicated portable, or the release of their next console/PC.

Obscure_Observer12d ago

"I feel this is just a stop gap until their own dedicated portable, or the release of their next console/PC."

Indeed.

Xbox, PC and Playstation in the palm of your hand!

I can´t wait!

ravens5212d ago

... You don't have to wait...They have devices capable of this already...

Obscure_Observer11d ago

@ravens52

"... You don't have to wait...They have devices capable of this already..."

I rather play my games with asymmetrical analog sticks and Xbox controller layout, thanks.

ravens5211d ago

Pair ya Xbox controller lol 😉. Jk. Don't get ya panties in a wod. You like it, I love that for you. Enjoy Obscure!

azedean12d ago

Too thic for me, I'll wait until we have that power on a more handheld console not a transportable one.

With it's light weight version of windows, ergonomic controls, gaming performance, and open system with multiple store launchers, it may be the best handheld on the market. This device is more pro consumer instead of a handheld that just plays Xbox games.

If my cash wasn't so tight this year I would be looking to pick up one at or around launch and I have no issues recommending it to any gamer as long as it is within their price range.

PapaBop12d ago

Pro consumer? Have you seen the rumoured price for it? At that price and using an LCD panel, pro consumer is not the words I'd use to describe it.

DivineHand12512d ago

So for you if it had an OLED screen but stay in a closed walled off software ecosystem, that would be pro consumer?

This is for the people who want an ergonomic handheld with as much power they could possibly get without compromising the battery life. It also gives you the ability to connect to your own display or an external GPU for those with the budget. What I love about it the most is that you have multiple competing store fronts so you can shop around for the best prices for your games.

BeHunted12d ago

Agree to disagree. This would open up a new era of Windows Handheld gaming devices: a cut down version of Windows with no bloatware, with hundreds of gaming clients.

crazyCoconuts11d ago

"cut down version of Windows without bloatware"
No such thing exists. Temper your expectations... Windows launching straight into the Xbox app.

mkis00712d ago

It doesn't play all xbox games though. It plays pc games, meaning if you don't have play anywhere titles, you have to buy them again.

DivineHand12512d ago

Right now that is a small inconvenience as the play anywhere program is not perfect.

You have to consider that it is offering something that no one else is doing for a large number of titles. That small nitpick should not count against this device and we as gamers should support moves like this.

crazyCoconuts11d ago

Would you still consider this pro consumer if you learned this is just MS' way of telling you there won't be any more consoles, just PCs?

DivineHand12511d ago

If it means I won't have to pay any subscription fees for online gaming I would say yes to that.

Japan: Nintendo Switch 2 already outsold lifetime sales of Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Digital Edition

The Nintendo Switch 2 has proved to be a success the world over, however, one nation which is particularly keen on the Nintendo’s latest platform is naturally Japan. Recent sales data has shown that…

Nintendo are #1 while PS and Xbox fight for 2nd

@avfe/obscured
I see you spamming as usual

Operation12235h ago

N4G feels more like a Sony PR newsletter with a comment section. Sony fanboys have taken over this website.

CrashMania4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

@operation

Yet the biggest idiots on the site are the Xbox zealots, like the alt spamming articles daily with his endless accounts lol.

thorstein3h ago

@operation

We've always been here. Your complaint days back over a decade. There was no "taking over."

babadivad2h ago

@Operation1223

It's been Ike this for a decade. Where have you been. If you say anything remotely anti-Sony, you will be flooded with dislikes. Regardless of how true your comment is. Sony's honor must be protected at all cost. Asking for trouble with this one but, the mods are fanboys too.

That's part of the reason the site is the way it is.

Nintendo dominates the handheld/hybrid market and Playstation dominates the high end market. There is no fight for 2nd. Xbox is just stumbling around until they leave the console market entirely to merge with Windows.

Avfe635h ago

There’s only one market - console gaming. And Nintendo are dominating Xbox and PlayStation

derek4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

@Avfe63, how many ps5 are out there compared to switch 2s? Lol. Just go play your kiddy Nintendo games, you're not part of the conversation. You Nintendo fans are the worst, you want so bad to get into this console war stuff but all you have is vague grandiose claims of sales. Just stay out of it, enjoy your 1 millionth edition of Mario kart/galaxy/world, Pokémon and donkey kong on you last last gen "new" hardware. Lol

Avfe634h ago(Edited 4h ago)

How many PS4 or 5 are out there compared to Switch 1?

Switch 2 just released, but it already shattered all records PS set (which was PS4. Not 5)

“enjoy your 1 millionth edition of Mario kart/galaxy/world”

Ironic for a fanbase who buys TLOU and Horizon remasters constantly 😂

CrashMania4h ago

Ignore the alt, he's just holding up a Nintendo shield to deflect from 2 disastrous gens in a row for Xbox.

CrimsonWing694h ago

The real question is will Swotch 2 outdo the lifetime sales. I’m not so sure about that and the third-party game sales appear to be abysmal. That’s not a fantastic sign of things to come. Time will tell though.

biggest console launch ever!

CrashMania9h ago

yeah nothing is gonna dethrone nintendo in japan, especially if there's a handheld involved.

Avfe638h ago

nothing is gonna dethrone Nintendo in any country

gold_drake7h ago

not surprised, the switch is relatively cheap in japan.

Avfe637h ago

It also broke the previous records set by PS4 in the west

So it’s not just Japan. Its global.

GamingSinceForever6h ago

A lot of that has to do with availability of consoles. You couldn’t find a launch PS4 after the first 3 days for a while. PS5 even more so.

I’m not saying this to take anything away from Nintendo, I’m only saying they came with more consoles to start. If there were 1.5M PS4s in North America at launch they likely would have all been sold immediately. So the launch record is a bit skewed there.

gold_drake6h ago

the article talks about Japan not global.

u may be right but still ha.

DivineHand1256h ago

I guess the resistance against always online and digital only consoles is BS. The people have voted with their wallets.

NotoriousWhiz5h ago

What are you talking about? Switch 2 is neither always online nor digital only.

DivineHand1254h ago

Nintendo can literally block your Switch 2 console from accessing their online services at any time. When that happens, it becomes a brick. You won't even be able to play those games that use game key cards that are not installed on the console. Some users who have been blocked tried factory resetting their system, and when they tried to boot it up with a new account, they are stuck.

Speaking of game key cards, the majority of third party publishers have opted to use those instead of loading their full game on those cartridges. Imagine having a library of game key card games and going on a long trip but not being able to play a particular game because you need to connect to Nintendo servers to download the game first. It is not like the old days where you just plug in and play.

Game key cards make sense for large games like GTA, Red Dead, or COD, but I don't see why publishers who have games with sizes less than 32 GB need to use that option.

Profchaos1h ago

If you try to mod your system it could get banned from online play like every single system since the ps3 and xbox

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.

They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.

jznrpg4h ago

I’m sure many would want bold and creative done well, but that’s easier said than done. I like variety so give me a little bit of everything, done well of course.

Nightcrawler891d 5h ago

Hope they use his vision in the game

Inverno1d 5h ago

Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?

Scissorman13h ago

it was not. it greatly expanded the areas and puzzles to the point where it felt like an entirely new game. the enemies and boss fights were given a MASSIVE upgrade. the abstract daddy fight in particular was incredible. and the team added two new endings.

Pedrof1d 4h ago

I wouldn't hold my breath on "bold".

AMD CEO Shares Vision Behind Xbox Partnership and Next-Gen Chip Roadmap

AMD CEO Lisa Su talks about the Xbox AMD partnership, next-gen Ryzen + Radeon chips, and AI rendering tech coming to all Xbox devices.

AMD is really building hype around their unique partnership with Microsoft to help and build an advanced and seamless Xbox ecosystem across all Xbox consoles and devices.

I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimized chips" though? Seems ambitious.

Next year´s Xbox Showcase already looks promising and exciting. Here´s hoping they deliver.

InUrFoxHole1d 20h ago

They had best show 3yrs in a row. Heading for another

VenomUK1d 14h ago

Obscure_Observer said “I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimised chips" though? Seems ambitious.” To me, I interpret this to mean rather than having a couple of X/S products for launch and a handheld there is a longer term plan to release new products with higher specs at timed intervals. I’m speculating of course, but this could mean a spec bump every year or two, so that even if the PS6 or Steam Deck Home is released a year after ‘Xbox’ Microsoft can release an updated model that has a higher spec.

Agent751d 4h ago

But Microsoft forgot the games.

KwietStorm_BLM1d 9h ago

It's X3D chips for console. Everyone knows this. And it's been rumored in the PS6 forever.

Ganif1d 7h ago

Correct.

"Sony's PlayStation 6 reportedly will feature an AMD semi-custom APU with a Zen 5 CPU and UDNA GPU, capable of 4K 120FPS and 8K 60FPS gaming. The console will include X3D cache and advanced AI upscaling technology."

Obscure_Observer1d 3h ago

"It's X3D chips for console. Everyone knows this. And it's been rumored in the PS6 forever."

I doubt that AMD´s CEO would waste her time making this huge and important partnership announcement over a tech that will be 7 years old by the those next gen consoles will be released.

Notellin1d 3h ago

You should have just lead this comment with the fact that you have zero understanding of technology in the consoles and instead have a Toms Hardware online forum level of education.

Agent751d 4h ago

But Microsoft forgot the games

@VenomUK

"I’m speculating of course, but this could mean a spec bump every year or two, so that even if the PS6 or Steam Deck Home is released a year after ‘Xbox’ Microsoft can release an updated model that has a higher spec."

Very interesting theory. Still not sure how MS would actually make it work.

KwietStorm_BLM1d ago

"I doubt that AMD´s CEO would waste her time making this huge and important partnership announcement over a tech that will be 7 years old by the those next gen consoles will be released."

How old is the tech in consoles? It's not a huge announcement. It's marketing and you know it is.

Obscure_Observer4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

"How old is the tech in consoles? It's not a huge announcement. It's marketing and you know it is."

Dude, what I know for certain is that a tech as old as X3D chips which is actually *older* than both PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, is hardly the reason behind this new partnership between AMD and MS to build new *custom silicon* for next generation of consoles.

And yes it´s a huge announcement since AMD is working closely with MS to co-develop custom SoC which will allow backwards compatibility across all MS´s next gen devices allowing seamless integration between devices and full backwards compatibility across all generations of Xbox consoles.

I also know is that this announcement don´t have anything to do with Playstation and their strategy with AMD for the PS6, so stop comparing the two pretending that you know what´s going on, because you clearly don´t.

If Sony is working on something remotely similar, that´s remain to be seen.

Fishy Fingers2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Some odd, deliberate wording, no branding, not 'Xbox consoles, Xbox handhelds' specifically, feels and sounds like they're building towards hardware that anyone can be used or licensed to/by themselves and other manufacturers.

Multiplatform software and hardware 'Xbox/AMD APU'.

Obscure_Observer2d ago

I guess you missed Sarah Bond´s next generation Xbox announcement this week, were she clearly states:

"I´m thrilled to share that we´ve established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including, *our* next generation *Xbox consoles*."

But hey, I don´t think you´re entirely wrong, maybe MS will build their own Xbox consoles while licencing other manufactures to build and sell their own Xbox branded consoles. Who knows

BeHunted1d 21h ago (Edited 1d 21h ago )

Shares vision....we provide chips for money, this deal will sell many chips, we will make lots of money...good vision

Christopher2d ago

The marketing behind this is so heavy that I worry about the actual outcome. Why are they just not showing us the product, why all this talking in market speak?

Lightning771d 21h ago

Probably because the next xbox isn't ready to release yet?

The marketing and rumors seem to be heavy out of no where. The rumor was a 27 release but it maybe it could be 26 new console launch instead.

Who knows.

Eonjay1d 9h ago

There PR is alrways super heavy handed. No one is acutally buying an Xbox as is.
Also it is very early to be talking so much about a next gen console.

Obscure_Observer1d 3h ago

There´s a lot of people interested on Xbox Next and its ability to run games from major stores like Steam.

We know that the PS6 is just around the corner as well, but so far, no news on what it might improve over the PS5 or PS5 Pro.

However, Sony already made public that their priority and actual focus is the PS6. So its not "very early" to talk about next gen when the very console manufactures are talking about it.
