250 hours in and I can't get enough

Gameseeker_Frampt36d ago

It's not a first-party game though. Is it really too much to expect these low-rate websites to have the bare minimum of knowledge about the topic that they write about?

This reminds me of the hoops that some diehard Nintendo fans would go through to claim a game (like Bayonetta 2) is first-party just to say Nintendo is pumping out games.

GamingSinceForever36d ago

Sony owns the IP so maybe that will clear things up for you.

SonyStyled36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

It’s a second party title, like Ratchet and Clank prior to the purchase of Insomniac, or like Sly Cooper before the purchase of Sucker Punch, or like Dead Nation before the purchase of Housemarque, etc.

darthv7236d ago

Sony published it, they dont own it... not yet anyway.

Giga_Gaia36d ago

@darthv72 Sony owns the Helldivers IP, but they don't own the developer.

CrashMania36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

@darth. Sony absolutey owns the IP.

lodossrage36d ago

@darthv72

Sony does own the IP and publish it. They just down own the developer

No, he's right. Helldivers 2 is a 2nd party title...

1st party - IP and studio owned.

2nd party - IP owned, studio not owned.

3rd party - Neither IP, nor studio owned.

Just wondering if you don't consider Pokemon, Smash ultimate or Metroid Dread first party because Nintendo doesn't own the studios that made those games...

Gameseeker_Frampt36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

I don't consider them first-party. Just like Kirby isn't first-party and neither is Luigi's Mansion 3.

Ownership of the IP has nothing to do with whether a game is first-party. First-party games are ones that are made by studios owned by a platform maker. I find fans only will try to claim a game as first-party if the game is good. If it is bad, they quickly rush to point out that their preferred company didn't really make it. Star Fox Zero,Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, and The Order:1886 are good examples of this.

romulus2336d ago

It will be once Sony announces they acquired Arrowhead Game Studios, stay tuned.

Tacoboto36d ago

... Sony themselves consider it first-party sales in their financials.

That's insane! Congratulations Arrowhead! Be good if Sony did buy them, they could work closely with Housmareque and they could both help each other with projects, that'd be good to see

badz14936d ago

Between the original Helldivers (Arrow Head) and Alienation (Housemarque), I prefer the later so much more. Would love to see Alienation going through similar transformation as HD2 for its sequel.

Crows9036d ago

That would be great...house marquee are clearly capable after returnal

lol and everybody complained about multiplayer games as a service. "no thanks! single player story games for me, thanks!".

well... proof is in the pudding. most people love a good proper competition, and if it comes in the form of a great, addicting game then that's even better. this is that game. this is the exact reason publishers are pushing for GaaS. I personally am fine with it. There's space for all types of games, and I love a good multiplayer romp. some of my best gaming memories are from MP, and HDII is no exception.

notachance36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

Well maybe before acting all high and mighty get your facts straight. GaaS doesn’t always mean multiplayer, and multiplayer doesn’t always mean GaaS. There are lots of single player GaaS in mobile platform, vice versa there are multiplayer games like It Takes Two or the multitude of lego games that aren’t GaaS.

You like multiplayer? Good for you, but not at all what people mean when they’re talking about GaaS.

anast36d ago

AC games are also SP GaaS.

ApocalypseShadow36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

What gamers asked for was that Sony make a multiplayer game that was as fun as their single player games. Fans didn't want Sony to be unbalanced by just having single player games in their portfolio. Especially when they previously had many great online games from Socom, Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, Warhawk, TLofU, etc.

They also didn't want Sony to turn those games into micro transaction fests. Where you're bombarded with crap that should be part of the game at release. They don't want pay to win nonsense either. They wanted it like all Sony's actions where it's not forced. Like Plus isn't forced. Their digital console isn't forced. VR isn't forced. Portal isn't forced. They're just options that are secondary to Sony's main bread and butter which is single player games.

Hell Divers 2 being a hit is just proof that PlayStation gamers wanted a good online game by Sony or supported by Sony. And it came to pass. Now, Sony can see that they can make a great game like this without pushing aggressive micro transactions and it can potentially sell very well. Something other developers could learn from.

I feel like this is self-evident.

Seems a bit obvious.

In other news: water is wet!

This is written by either the best teammate, or the worst.

Nobody likes the person trying to whip their friends into shape, when they are all either high or drunk, or just trying to decompress.

If your team can’t do level 9, try level 7 or 8.

If you like bots, and there's a bug MO, just complete 1 bug operation to do your part and then go back to the bots for your toaster destroying fun. And vice versa for bugdivers.
