Horizon Forbidden West: Hands-on with the eagerly anticipated PC port

Digital Foundry : One of the most technologically-advanced games on PlayStation 5 is coming imminently to PC. Horizon Forbidden West is acclaimed for its beautiful rendering and smooth performance on PS5, and we were fascinated to see how porting specialists Nixxes have adapted it to PC - and to see how accurate its (entirely reasonable) recommended specs are in-game. The studio continues to work on and refine the game up until launch, but we have had around a week with preview builds and can offer our initial impressions.

not that I know anything, but it does seem playstation optimised games, by Sonys first party studios are more clever than I thought.

when a pc with a 2070super (or whatever) is running the same settings, but the playstation costs only £500.

Jingsing37d ago

PS5 $500 4 years later PS5 Pro $500 + 7 Years of PS+ $400-500. Sony is doing a good job of divesting themselves and users of the need for their platform or a console. I should just buy a $1000 PC at this point and not have to worry about paying a PS+ gate fee or for many not actually paying $70 for their games. In the end they will hurt themselves long term with this business strategy. People will wake up.

Yea, good luck getting PlayStation performance on a $1000 PC that you buy at the start of the generation.

Heck good luck getting a video card alone that has 33TF of performance for the price of whatever the PS5 Pro costs, much less all the other parts.

You people are living in am imaginary world when you think you can build PC's that match the subsidized value of a console, it's just not reality.

Jingsing37d ago (Edited 37d ago )

You forgot the $500 for 7 years of PS+ which you need for online play. Also you forget that you can get Sony games on PC for free. Yes they are that easy to get without paying for them. Also you get PC and Xbox games on there too if you feel that adds extra value. Simply saying Sony is reducing their value as a platform holder. Nintendo understands this but if Sony keep on their current trajectory they will continue to hemorrhage users to PC. It also seems like people are quite happy paying nothing for their games and playing them on the Steam Deck too which basically kills any chance Sony ever had of re-entering handheld gaming.

Something else to add, both depreciate but pcs more so

I sell my ps5 few years later I’d only loose £200 from a cost of £500

Sell a pc that cost £2000 would expect £1300 being generous, loosing £700

So although each console game costs slightly more than pc equivalent, I can sell the console and not loose anywhere near

You don't need a PS5 Pro nor PS+ to play this game, so I don't think it's a fair comparison.

andy8537d ago (Edited 37d ago )

I mean...would you not upgrade your PC in those 7-8 years? It's literally the same. If you're buying physical games you can recoup the cost back. Certainly pays for the PS membership and far more. I'm gaming for far cheaper on console than I would on PC. I'm wide awake. Plus the fact you need neither a PS5 pro or a PS+ membership to play the game you're commenting on

I'm actually quite happy with the PS5 performance mode. Only slightly lowers the res, which I'm fine with.

andy8516d ago

I played in the 120hz mode (was getting about 90-100). Baffles me how they got it looking that good when certainly other games are struggling with 30 fps.

raWfodog16d ago

I played it on PS5 performance mode as well. Easily one of the top best-looking games worlds. Beautiful, vibrant colors and details.

GamerRN16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The 120hz mode wasn't bad at all, but I like the in between mode best

InUrFoxHole15d ago

@andy
It's the devs man. Not all are equal. Yesterday I played Uncharted 4 and Gears 5. The amount of detail is so impressive in both those games. Some devs just know how to get more out of the hardware.

Sonic188116d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The PC version is phenomenal!! But I decided to play it with the dualsense controller on PC and steam supports the controller!!

Sonic188115d ago

The best looking game by far. It even looks better than Hellblade 2

StormSnooper15d ago
