Every review I read on metacritic so far kinda screams bias. Almost everyone starts with “the Harry Potter game I always wanted”, it’s hard for me to take it seriously when your review jump starts at pandering.

It’s like the botw reviews when people screamed how amazing that was simply being Zelda and once I got it was severely underwhelming.

I’ll have the game this week to measure it on my own metrics. But, this was written on the walls that it was going to be loved prior to its release. Even with no demo and gameplay reveals that released weeks before launch.

Can’t help but see a lot of flaws in the approach to the gaming reviewing system. Truly doesn’t feel impartial and feels very personal on these games and how they are suggested.

Have you ever seen any of ACG reviews on YT? He his VERY thorough and unbiased. He did just rate it as a definite buy. Given that I just played FW for the Plat and am experiencing openworld fatigue, I am now considering it. ACG:"Hogwarts is a 50+ hour game, never once making me feel fatigued." Check him out.

Yeah, we waited for so long for a great Harry Potter game.
And we should really enjoy this one. Because if history taught us anything, is that Warned Bros will take a successful game and make a rushed and souless sequel filled with microtransactions, so this one's probably the best we're going to get.

Man....I was considering making Forspoken my next platinum, but I just platinumed FW, which has caused fatigue to set in. What I've played of it was fun, though, damn the reviews. Hogwarts, unfortunately, will only be considered as a deep sale with Like a Dragon, Atomic Hearts, PSVR 2, and Wo Long coming out. This is following Dead Space, Forspoken, and Monster Hunter:Rise. It is shaping up to be one of the best years in gaming. Hope you enjoy Hogwarts.

Yeah I don't understand them to be honest. I get everyone has an opinion but I've loved the game and experienced nothing as to what a lot of people's opinions are. Only thing I can think is a lot have just played the demo. And yeah I'm actually worried about that. Going from a huge open world like this to another one in Hogwarts (especially as I was halfway through Skyrim before Forspoken as well). Might get LAD:Ishin to break it up a bit

I have 41 Spell Challanges left with Forspoken, but I'm getting there.
Don't know if I'll be done in time thou :D

I'm worried that any future Open World game will feel slow after playing Forspoken.
I had so damn much fun with both combat and traversal, I can't right now, imagine playing a slower game.
However, I'm all in for Hogwarts, and hopefully I'll adapt quickly.

I'll always find it funny that people outwardly disregard IGN reviews but we all feel relief when they score a game we want to like 9 or 10

I liked the way the game looked earlier and I have zero faith in reviews .I preordered it and will decide for myself .
I disagree with so many reviews I just wait to play what I want .
Forspoken is a good example , game is good I don’t care what people say I’d say it’s an 8+ type of game. Combat and traversal are great . It’s a little slow in the beginning but many RPGs are . The reason I wouldn’t score it higher is because it should be longer.

HiFi Rush is another good example . I hate the art style so I have zero interest in even playing it .

Reviews can be nice for devs but they are so skewed these days with agendas , money, loyalty to a corp or hate for another . I preorder most of my games unless I know they are short generally as I don’t care what reviews say . They are wrong a lot when I compare what I like and dislike especially with new IP

Loved star ocean 6 and felt it wasn't reviewed properly. Complaining about star ocean staples what. Then the camera. I put 200 hours in and the camera wasn't much of an issue for me.

I'm pretty sure hogwarts is about to be dope af I can't wait to play it but screw a review. I for the life of me cannot understand gamers who only play based off reviews. I can't wrap my head around it.

Forbidden west when it came out had a load of technical issues. Still one of my games if the year and was a solid 9/10 at release. If the game is that good sometimes you're willing to forgive non game breaking visual glitches.

Reads like a 7 yes... but this game is 20 million copies potential and a GOTY contender for sure... based on sales, reviews, social media, people acceptance... childhood (people will buy this for their kids). IGN decided ok... we will flipflop - give a 9 but with a disclaimer and warnings.

Well tech problems and bugs etc can be fix via patch while others probably minor to he reviewer. If it was a ps2 game which the technical and performance issues were permanent then yeah maybe it would get a pt off. No game is perfect low scoring games because of issues like that would mean most game's would be under 8.

Your absolutely right. For certain games these will be overlooked while the same issues with other games will get it killed. I have no doubt alot of these sites take a cut of some sort of money. I still say hogwarts is gonna be good but just pointing out the bias

Interesting how they listed many things other games get docked a point for yet this game still gets a 9.
-Repetitive Enemies
-Dull Combat (enemies ability doesn't vary)
-Tons of side quest with no substance
-Pop in graphics
-Excesive loading

I mean i can go on, many things said here that other games were shamed on.

As for myself, I have played the game only about 2hrs of it though, but as RedDevils said, my issues with the review(s) doesn't have anything to do with if I played the game or not. It's merely an observation made simply from reading/viewing the reviews. They are obviously biased, because as I said the games with similar "issues" have been docked and given 6's/7's, but this game somehow remains to keep a 8.5/9 baffles me.

I am not defending any review at all, simply asking a question. If Red wants to do some mental gymnastics and make some assumptions to claim that I “…go with the herd cause they say so?” without provocation simply because I asked a rather valid question, then I think it’s safe to say they’re being needlessly condescending.

That viewpoint is fair.
I do find it laughable personally how games like FIFA and COD, etc. review highly hear after year with minimal innovation between some titles (granted COD has done a lot better since moving to the 3 year cycle - aside from Vanguard).

On the other hand, people are always quick to slam a game they haven’t played which is why I asked. No offence intended.

Here is the problem with great reviews, their expectation doesn't meet your expectation. Many times I have went to see a movie or play a game with rave reviews only to be disappointed afterwards. My expectation didn't match the review and I thought it was going to be better than it was, Therefore I was disappointed. We all just have to lower our expectations a little and appreciate what is presented before us.

I think if you are a huge fan of potter, you will love this, no matter what. If you are a hardcore gamer you may be a bit miffed at the high review.

I used to be a huge fan of HP, but I feel nothing for this game. I watched an hour-long gameplay leak last week—exactly 7 minutes of combat and 53 minutes of slow walking, incessant talking and garbage collection. The combat is as dull as 2011 Skyrim's magic. Match the colours, press a button and watch the same animations repeat for the umpteenth time while enemies are stupidly waiting for their turn. Facial animations that would give ME Andromeda a run for its money. Tired side quests. Pathetic writing. Boring and token characters.

I know I'm a tough-to-please guy, but this game isn't the bee's knees. The only things going for it are exploration and lore.

I enjoyed Forspoken with its fantasy setting & great magic spells. I guess I'll buy Hogwarts this weekend & continue getting into a fantasy setting & learning magic spells...lol.

Hopefully they sort out the PS5 performance issues quickly. And seeing door loading screens is definitely disappointing.
