Just saw this doesn't have eye tracking despite being twice the price of the PSVR2. That sucks.

targets different people. This is not a headset designed solely for playing games. More Commercial applications I think.

PapaBop467d ago

Seriously, what commercial market? Who wants to work with a VR headset on?

Neonridr466d ago

@PapaBop - AR applications, where you can see through the headset but have images being displayed. I would imagine things like some medicine or some construction applications would benefit.

This is a seriously weird device. It's basically a cut-down version of the Meta Quest Pro, which would be totally fine if the price was also much cheaper. But the lack of features like tracking (eye, face, hands) and foveated rendering probably is not enough to justify the still over a thousand USD price-tag.

Some people don’t seem to understand that PSVR2 is a really good deal for what you are getting . This lacks many features of PSVR2 and costs 1099$ . You can get a PS5 and PSVR2 for the price of this .

Vits467d ago

Unless you literally only want to use it for gaming I wouldn't compare the two. Because other than that, they are fairly different devices. One is a standalone solution that can also be used together with multiple different systems in different scenarios and with access to multiple ecosystems. While the other is an accessory locked down to a single device and ecosystem.

That said, comparing it to other similar options from Meta, Pico, and Pimax is completely fair game. And against those, this new Vive looks weak.

The PSVR was locked to one ecosystem as well, but Trinus VR released drivers to use it on PC just a couple of months after launch. I expect PSVR2 to be working on PC just as quickly (maybe not the headset haptics and such), but we'll see.

I totally agree though, in terms of bang for buck, this just doesn't seem great. PSVR2, however, is looking more like a great deal with every new development in the VR sector for the past few months - even if, granted, it's not cheap per se, it's definitely great value given the technical specifications.

@SullysCigar

Again, if you only want to game. Sure, the PSVR2 is not a bad choice particularly because Sony will definitely develop or pay for content for their device. But comparing it with an all-proposed VR solution is sort of apples to oranges.

As for the PSVR2 working on PC. Time will tell, but if they manage to make it work with support for all its features. Then it could be a very compelling device for PC VR even with the lack of a DP port.

The price is actually insulting, especially when PSVR2 is workable on PC;

PSVR2 still trashes VIVE XR Elite in almost every spec, but mainly in the important ones;
Resolution
Panel Quality
Refresh Rate
Eye Tracking
Haptic Feedback (Headset & Controllers)
Price ($550 vs $1,100)

PSVR2 vs XR Elite

2000x2040 pixels per eye vs 1920x1920 pixels per eye - PSVR2 win
OLED display vs LCD display - PSVR2 win
HDR vs SDR - PSVR2 win
120Hz vs 90Hz - PSVR2 win
Eye Tracing vs no eye tracing - PSVR2 win

They cheap out and put lcd in it then want to you to pay 2 grand plus no eye tracking, face tracking, what a joke of a product.
