Xbox Needs Its Own Version of the DualSense

The Xbox Series X is a major advancement over the Xbox One, but it needs its own version of the DualSense if it wants to beat PS5.

Beat? You mean compete or perhaps keep up with.

As for beating the PS5, as with every generation before it that's a far fetched dream for Microsoft.

The DualSense is a game changer. All other controllers should take notice. The haptics are on a other level.

The Wood1249d ago (Edited 1249d ago )

The closest they have I'd their elite controller with that elite price. Very adaptable and customisable but I think the d's is elite

Gyroscope for motion control and gestures
Mic
Speaker
Share button
Mute button (that can also mute the sound from your TV/amp with a longer press)
Haptics
Enhanced triggers
Touch pad
Rechargeable

NeoGamer2321249d ago

Or maybe different gamers like different consoles, and having something differentiate them spurs innovation and the ongoing quest for both consoles to be better.

EmperorDalek1249d ago

The controller's fine, there's a reason they haven't changed it much. The 360 and Xbox One had better controllers than PS3 and PS4.

OneLove1248d ago (Edited 1248d ago )

Bro during the 360 days Microsoft was dominating the whole generation until the end. The 360 was beating Sony in multi plat sales and first party. Why do all you Sony tards act like Sony has been in the lead every generation.

No, no and no, you sound like an angry xbox fanboy😉

Popsicle1248d ago

@surferz maybe you are young, but Gears and Halo 3 were game changers in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Gears was a brand new IP and Halo was still very young and huge on the multiplayer scene. If Microsoft went back to making new revolutionary IPs like they did during the OG Xbox and early 360 years they could be serious competition. Admittedly Microsoft has gotten away from what they did well during that time, but OG Xbox and early years of the 360 was great for gamers. I can't say that now, but it was true then.

Eh, I think the 360 was better than PS3, but boy oh boy did they fumble it up with the Xbone... yeesh.

No it doesnt. Both should just keep on what they are doing. There are other areas MS should focus on. They are solid in the controller department.

Sitdown1249d ago

I agree, the DualSense is lovely, but let's see regular meaningful implementation before we say another console needs it.

NEXUS-61249d ago

Haven't you already? The Dirt5 dev is going to patch in a better implementation of the Dualsense. I think support for it going forward is a given, why wouldn't there be?

crazyCoconuts1249d ago

Playing COD CW with it on is enough to convince me it's a keeper.
As for Xbox copying it, too late for this gen. Maybe next time.

Games1st1249d ago (Edited 1249d ago )

"regular meaningful implementation" There's a list of over 40 games that plan on supporting it so far, we have to wait for the games to release. Like Dirt 5, devs can improve or add it in after release.

https://www.resetera.com/th...

Sitdown1249d ago

I guess you all don't understand "regular meaningful". We currently do not have a large enough sample size. Projected that a have will have it, doesn't mean implementation will be tasteful. I am interested about hearing its usage in Call of Duty, because I keep pondering that purchase.

kayoss1249d ago

have you tried Astro Playroom?

Sitdown1249d ago

@kayoss
Yes, that's where my comment about being lovely comes from.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen1248d ago (Edited 1248d ago )

You obviously don't have one. If you did and you experienced the Dual Sense in Astro Bot or COD or Borderlands 3 you would begin to understand how the controller is actually trying to become a part of the game itself instead of just being a controller used to guide yourself through a game.

1248d ago
Sitdown1248d ago (Edited 1248d ago )

@IGiveHugs2NakedWomen
@surferz

Sorry to disappoint you both, but I've had my PS5 since Day 1. I've only used it for Astro. I say regular, becausr I don't want companies to start strong and then taper off. Sort of like how Heavenly Sword used the six axis, but then implementation went away. Sorry that you all think that not blindly loving everything Sony means that I don't have a system. You can even check my post history and see how I said it blows Microsoft's offerings out the window.

1248d ago
Sitdown1248d ago

@surferz
With your post history, I wouldn't expect you to. You in here telling me try something you yourself haven't experienced. Ha
Let me know if you want me to share my gamertag, and then message you from it.

Popsicle1248d ago

@Sitdown you are absolutely correct that the sample size is currently to small, but in business it is better to be proactive than reactive. I have both consoles and admittedly skipped purchasing a second controller for my Series X because I believe they may end up developing a haptic controller to compete with Sony's.

To provide a little context, when Sony demonstrated the six axis for the PS3 and the touch pad for the PS4 I couldn't care less about the features and did not expect developers would utilize them. However, the Dualsense is being praised by nearly everyone who puts their hands on it and from personal experience, the Dualsense is a game changer. I don't remember articles stating the opinion that Microsoft needed to make a six axis controller or touch pad. The articles did not exsist because they simply didn't add much to the experience. The Dualsense adds greatly to experience and I believe developers will utilize its features.

For me, if the games games are similar in performance, the Dualsense provides enough of a difference that I will purchase 3rd party games for the PS5 over the Series X if the developer utilizes the controller.

Sitdown1248d ago

@Popsicle
Thank you for being able logical conversation. You mentioning that Microsoft might release a new controller, now has me pondering that whether I should currently cancel my shock blue controller. Best Buy currently has it on sale. Honestly though, even if a game performed better on Series X, I probably would still be inclined to go with the PS5 if there is property controller implementation, because it's just that good. If people go to the 12:30 mark, he is speaking to exactly what I was saying

https://youtu.be/MepGo2xmVJ...

I'm also just saying, we see what happened with the Kinect when Microsoft tries to jump out from, it's not well supported, and feels like an after thought to try and capitalize on the success others have going. To a lesser extent the Xbox One X, where the generation was too far gone, and developers didn't really feel the need to make it primary. I fully expect that next generation, Microsoft will go overboard with the controller trying to standout.

Jericho13371249d ago

Totally agreed, it’s widely accepted that Xbox has had the best controller for some time now (although it seems like the DualSense is rivalling it now).

Maybe they’ll add something similar to the Elite Series 3, but the Xbox controller has some cool features itself and feels great.

cooperdnizzle1249d ago

Wildly excepted say who? You? Xbox fans are the only ones who still push this false agenda. If sales are anything to go off of, the dual shock is preferred around the whole world! And more favorable in the U.S as well! Most people don’t like the Xbox controller. No real dpad off set analogs okay that makes since... like humans aren’t Symmetrical beings or anything.. way much more don’t feel like writing it all out again... But yeah Xbox is the better controller only to Xbox fanboys. True story dude

BLAKHOODe1249d ago (Edited 1249d ago )

I picked up my Xbox One controller the other day, that I have been using the past 3 years, and it just did not feel right anymore. 1 week with the DualSense and there is just no going back, even after getting use to the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers where I don't conciously notice them anymore, but handling a controller without them doesn't feel right without them now.

DrShoe1248d ago

It sounds like you're doing some hardcore coping right about now...

Just accept it, the Dualsense is the best controller in literally decades. Sony has created something incredible.

Jericho13371248d ago

Well it’s your word against mine mate, so your theory of “dual shock is the best in the world” is no more or less valid than my comment.

I haven’t used the dual sense yet so I can’t give a first hand opinion, but the feedback is sounding very positive. Skeptical that it’s “the best ever” given the dpad has been poorly received, but I can’t wait to try it.

Atticus_finch1249d ago (Edited 1249d ago )

I agree. The last thing Xbox needs to focus on is the controller.
Updating their "Tools" should be a priority.

SullysCigar1249d ago

Omg you went there!

It's true though - their controller at least works as intended and they've got much bigger problems to resolve before they think about an actual next gen controller.

ILostMyMind1248d ago

Is there a problem with Microsoft's "tools"?

StoneyYoshi1248d ago

@ILostMyMind

Apparently MS's GDK isn't fully ready yet and thats the excuse being pushed as to why the PS5 is doing better in the last 3 DF comparisons.

Atticus_finch1248d ago

Ilostmymind I don't think so but faboys refuse to believe Ps5 is a better console.

They're mad you said the Xbox controller been solid and hating on you 😂 like the Xbox controller is what the DS has been trying to be for generations. That controller has just been getting fatter y'all let's not pretend the Xbox controller isn't the standard and y'all ALL don't have one for PC.

Atticus_finch1248d ago

The Xbox controller is solid which only demonstrates how good Dualsense is, given that it is much better.
Well one company focused the entire gen on making amazing new games. The other one wanted to sell you a 1000 different controllers.

I am curious on how good haptics are. I've yet to hear from a ps5 owner who doesn't like them. So maybe there's something to it

Profchaos1249d ago (Edited 1249d ago )

It's not really the haptics for me that does it. They are a nice evolution over rumble and displaying directionality having a vibration start on one side then progress through your hand but for me personally it's the resistance triggers that show the biggest leap in tech I love them when shooting guns there's the tough spot then a snap through basically the first 25% of the trigger pull is tough then snaps to nothing every shot feels meaningful and impactful as a result for me.

I know there's a lot of confusion about duelsense triggers being haptic or resistive because the argument that even Linus was promoting is that Xbox has haptic triggers already and he had to be corrected.

I really hope this is adopted for all games but some like watchdogs really show a lack of use of the feature by a third party but I think they rushed the whole game as haptics and resistance is missing from most everything outside of gunfights

phoenixwing1249d ago

I don't know if I'd like that 24/7 while playing but it would definitely make for an experience at first at least.

NEXUS-61249d ago

My mate hates rumble, and always turned it off. I asked him if he would do the same with Dualsense - he said he wasn't sure. Fast forward 2 weeks and he loves it. I think rumble is a "dumb" way to convey what is on screen, Dualsense takes it up a few notches.

An example would be shooting a gun, it will feel different from game to game. Same with a driving game.

The Haptics in Astro are stronger than Demons Souls or GodFall.

Endless possibilities.

toxic-inferno1248d ago

To me, it's not so much the haptics themselves (although they are impressive) but the sheer combination of the controller's features. Pulling a trigger, feeling the resistance, the controller shaking in a realistic way, plus the sound from the controller's speaker simultaneously gives a very immersive feel.

None of the features are hugely game changing on their own, but together they can really add to the feel of the moment.

Fearmonkey1249d ago

MS's Series controllers really took the minimal boring road, Dualsense is amazing. MS needs to step up their game.

blackblades1249d ago

Ms took the boring route to everything then they copy the ps4 share button. So we all know they gonna be getting this feature.

phoenixwing1249d ago

If they did that would actually be nice because devs would feel more inclined to support it all.

purple1011249d ago

untill gran turismo 7. Dualsense is not proven. Only demonstrated.

With this game, they will make it so there's no going back to regular gaming.

JayRyu1249d ago

Yes, the Dual sense is great but the Xbox Elite controller is awesome as well. I'm waiting for that comparison.

purple1011248d ago

there is no comparison really, xbox elite is twice the price, has back triggers, is more of a pro quality build.

ps5 is half the price, has pressure in the triggers, has a mic and a speaker, has haptic instead of vibration.

cell9891249d ago

That will be the biggest compliment to the dual sense

cliveo3214h ago

Lol who is offended by it 1 percent of crying snowflakes of course..

blackblades7h ago

What did it mean? Considering I'm in my own world these days.

Christopher5h ago

Hard R is typically a reference to the N-word with the hard r at the end.

Eonjay4h ago

Do you really not know this is about the n-word or are you saying that black people can't get offended because it upsets you?

Christopher5h ago

I can't believe they're censoring this game on day 1. Games just aren't the same.

/s in case it's needed. I'm fine with them making these changes that they might not have known is culturally insensitive to some people in the big ole world. But that's just me.

VersusDMC4h ago

They are censoring something that is deemed offensive by Journalists quoting the offensive term verbatim. They are typing it intentionally in articles while in the game it's a wall texture saying Hard next to a unrelated 3d model sign that says R store. Is it offensive or not? Crazy town.

At least IGN just shows the term with a screenshot of the game. Because it's their "discovery" and to not show hypocrisy in their HUGE vitue signal.
Hard R is the not offensive way to describe an offensive term. Are they going to type "Ha$$ R" or not use the term now?

Christopher4h ago

Oh, hey, I agree with you that IGN and other journalists are dumb. Not disagreement there. But, I think for a game going out to millions of people across the world? It's not something they want associated with them. It's just horrific PR.

Tacoboto4h ago

Add to the horrific PR nightmare that this is the first major Korean-developed Sony-published title, if I'm not mistaken.

There aren't that many Korean developed titles in general. And the allowance of this only would drive a bigger fissure in east vs west especially after Final Fantasy XVI released featuring no black characters at all...

Not a good look for Sony regardless of how you personally feel about it or the people that talk about it.

VersusDMC3h ago

I'm not saying it shouldn't have been changed. It's an easy fix and looks like it was an easy fix.

But the word HARD being too close to the letter R being a horrific PR nightmare and a indication of a racist developer is beyond crazy.

Christopher2h ago

I only think they would be seen as an insensitive developer if they were informed of its implications and didn't remove it. I don't think it's a bad thing to not want to have an unintentional message in your game.

TriniOutsider21m ago(Edited 17m ago)

It's all fake outrage journalists are looking for everything and anything to accuse the developers of sexualization of the female body and racism now. Yet, Hard R has nothing to do with race.

Some of these journalists seem to dislike Asian people and it's starting to show more and more now.

Stevonidas5h ago

Pre-order cancelled. They were so close.... then they had to go and bend the knee.

Eonjay4h ago

If you can't enjoy the game without knowing there are racial slurs plastered on the walls, you might actually be the snowflake.

romulus232h ago

There were no racial slurs plastered on the walls.

Tacoboto4h ago

"Hey why didn't you get that game? I heard it's got that hot Korean chick?"

"I was gonna, but then they removed a reference to the N word!"

TriniOutsider16m ago

There was no reference to the N-word.

SeTTriP2h ago(Edited 1h ago)

So this could be misconstrued as a offensive slur to a group of people they patched it out no harm no foul and now your not buying the game because this effected YOU in a negative way?
I'm confused.your offended because they didn't want to offend anyone says a lot about you more then the studio.

Crows904h ago

I'm offended by the sight of blood a d violence and find violence to be very insensitive...

We can all play stupid and pretend to be offended by graphics and fake worlds.

DFresh3h ago

I really enjoyed the demo.
I'm going to play through and max out on story mode then go to the challenge mode afterwards.
This game is very challenging but fun.
Especially for timing on the parrying and blocking.
Got the Deluxe Digital Edition (PS5) pre ordered.
