I'll always buy consoles with disc drives as long as they continue to exist. Though I do make a lot of digital purchases, I like the option.

I've recently sold 16 ps4 games I don't need since I got 9 of them from ps+ and 7 of them I've got no intention in revisiting again. I've made 260 euros - half the ps5 price so yeah as long as discs/used market are a thing I'll keep preferring them.

But you're talking about saving money.. Discs save money and hold a value. I think you're just making excuses to make an instant savings of $100.

That SSD is going to fill up quick regardless, everything is installed to the SSD. Discs are just a transferable license to play the game. Again you are still saving way more than going all digital. Who said anything about going ALL DISC? It's an option, and a great one.

I have around 80 games on ps4, 79 of them digital. So I will stick with digital ps5 as well.

I have way more than that, you're most likely counting stuff that isn't even on physical or on limited run at best and PS+ games. In that case, my library is at least 120. With 20 physical discs currently(sold, gave, lent some) which have all saved me over $100, very easily, definitely a lot more. And not that I got around to playing them all. I know people go crazier with the disc collection. However, most I don't have the case, but I'm not a collector.

I counted the ones I bought on psn store. Not counting plus games. My total library is over 400 if I include psn plus freebies. I share an account with my friends he shares with me. So overall its cheaper than discs.

How are you going to say your library increases by 320 if you include PS+ Freebies. Are you including PS3 and PS Vita, I'm not. 120 for me is digital, and 20 discs. I share with my brother on digital if he's interested, or if it's a good online game to play with someone, but we're still much more frugal when it comes to full priced software, unless it's something we really want(pretty rare will will justify that giving our backlog). Hence why used disc is the best bang for buck, they're usually much cheaper than digital, and you can lend or resell. I am never playing the same SP game as my bro simultaneously.

I never bothered to count manually how many games I have. There is a ticker under your psn name that shows the number of games. I used to collect steel books, but now only the exclusive figurines. I have 99 platinums right now, and I am very picky in what to platinum, so you can imagine how many games I play. Plus the whole hassle of switching discs, discs gone bad, etc. I am content with all my media being digital.

ah I only have 35 plats, my brother has 45. When he goes for it he goes for it. I buy most the games so I'm more committed to just beating the games first and if there are missables that aren't a hassle or don't require a second playthrough, I'll go for it. Haven't had much time to brute through my backlog, though. It's shrinking as they're becoming free on PS+ or PS Now, now.

I have 400 PS4 games, about 30 of them are physical. All of the games I think are going to be really great, i buy on a disc. because 20 years from now i wanna be able to dust off my old playstations and maybe play through some of the future classics without any kind of hassle.

You may save on the console when buying it but in the long run you'll lose money by going digital only. With disk you can get the game considerably cheaper than you would digitally almost every single time. If you're happy to spend 15-20 more on the same game you could buy cheaper physically then happy days, but for the most part, digital will always be more expensive on consoles.

The Last of Us 2 was 70 euros on PS Store on release day. I paid 50 euros for a physical copy the day it released. That's already 20 euros I saved buying physical.

I decided to go all digital because of my experience with motorized disc drives. Discs getting stuck when a drive fails. And sometimes damaged. I sent one of my PS4s in for repair when this happened, and I didn't get my Borderlands 3 disc back. Also, not having discs will get rid of the temptation to sell a game. I inevitably want to play it again and buy it. I have zero willpower 😅

Depends on the person, there's a very large audience of gamers who only buy digital, be it for everything or just the annual sports/cod. If they're not going to buy the discs regardless, might aswell save $100. Personally i'd never go without the optical drive, but that's me.

Saving the $100 on day one, is actually not going to save you money in the long run. At all. You are locking yourself into Sonys eco system at the worst possible timing when Sony are increasing the prices on games. Future resale value drops as well since the system won't be able to play PS4 discs.

physical media are a thing of the past, my pc has no disc drive, my notebook has no disc drive, my car has no cd player and my playstation will be also digital only, i dont waste my money on discs that i eventually cant play on the next gerneration while i can play all my digital games basically forever like on steam, no matter the hardware and where ever i want!

Buying the digital may save you up front but you're buying into a eco system that will inevitably cost you WAY more down the line. Maybe that doesn't both some, but I feel many are just not aware of the hidden costs of digital only. The disc based PS5 gives you options, nothing stopping you from buying digital games on it, but at the same time having a disc copy of a game means not having to worry about actually owning a copy of it. The way I see it is digital games tied to service providers like PSN/XBL are nothing but expensive rentals. You can't resell a digital game, and outside of Steam, digital games hardly ever go on sale so in a few months time when Demons Souls drops to $60 or $55 on Amazon and Best Buy, digital only owners will still be paying $70. Multiply that by a 20 to 30 games and it eats that $100 savings real fast.

Also storage for these new consoles is a premium as games quickly grow to massive sizes, that storage for XSX is expensive and PS5 doesn't even have anything on the market yet. So for someone who wants to keep their games installed a digital only PS5 will need a lot more space then someone who just has a disc copy that can be easily popped back in. yes the discs install anyway but I'll take a 2 second walk to my games cabinet over a slow download any day.

Down here in South Florida sometimes 6 months after release you can find games $10 - $20 on clearance sale @ different Walmarts/Target. 3 years back picked up Arkham Collection for $8 when it was still $40

Simple, digital games cost a fortune whereas disc-based games devalue fairly quickly so in the long run you save money, never mind the option to buy them second hand or borrow them.
