I have to say I am not terribly impressed with Sony this year. A lot of what was shown we already knew about or is old stuff made new(ish). I do like the idea of Skyrim VR, but I'm not paying that much to play one game, especially one I have on two other systems already.

I really hate to say it, but I think Ubi has had the best conference so far.

Days Gone looked fantastic last year but ho hum now. Maybe it's just me but I am getting tired of the third person hold your hand gamestyle where you have all the button icons on screen to show you what to do. Games have become far too cinematic with less skill in the form of gameplay now (Assassins Creed and Shadow of War are other examples). Then to make matters worse QTE to add that amazing suspense! Detroit is still wrapped up in David Cage's ideas of storytelling gameplay, looks good visually but gameplay lacking. Dreams looks to be renamed to development Nightmare. PSVR still testing the waters while they dabble in a little bit of support here and there, nice to see Skyrim getting VR support.

Both Spiderman and God of War looked very good, those are the big titles that people love to see at these big events.

It really came across as a Nintendo Direct style of E3. I guess all those years of showing these great games years away from release have finally caught up to Sony. Now they are just showing games that are much further along in development. It's almost as though they want to surpise us next year with a PS5 announcement.

What I do find funny is Sony telling people old games are really not that interesting while they continue to repackage games like Shadow of the Col.losus to resell once again.

definitely was a snoozer. same ol' sony chock-full of gimmicks and quick time events. God of War actually looked good though so maybe I'll keep my PS4 until I've had a chance to play it. After that though it's Xbox One X from here on out, I'll likely wait for PS5 Pro before I come back to PlayStation.

Seems like since Uncharted and especially TLOU, Sony just wants to make slow paced games that are all emotional and are basically 75% movie.

Some people love that but not me. Days Gone looks exactly like TLOU to me, and I hated that game.

God of War practically looks like it, too. I want Kratos screaming about revenge and ripping off heads, not calmly walking around having heartfelt conversations with a brat kid. That game literally pisses me off.

I'm just sick of games that would rather be movies. I don't want to watch, I want to play.

This is the worst E3 I can remember since I started really following it closely.

They want allow you cross play, deny you back compat, denied you EA access and gave you nothing but indies for 2 years. not mention their version of xbox pass makes you re buy games you already own. Got home late, but I got around to watching. The show didn't really do much for me. They showed some great games and elaborated on Days Gone, which is a huge plus... but it didn't convince me to get anything I wasn't already planning to. I have no interest in Pro, but a price drop might have really enticed me. Felt like a wasted opportunity, especially with One X being revealed a day prior. Biggest surprise for me was Shadow of the Colossus. I was super excited but honestly, I already bought the game twice. Triple dipping is a bit much. I'd like to see some real additions to the game before I decide but for now, I'm not convinced. Spider-Man is shaping up beautifully, so that's awesome. Looks like Marvel might have their answer to the Arkham games. Was really sad to not see Sucker Punch or The Last of Us, part II, but Naughty Dog still showed up and did great with The Lost Legacy.

All things considered, I keep my expectations low always. It decreases my chances of disappointment. That said, they had a great show, but it left me disappointed in the sense that I had nothing really new to look forward to. I knew about God of War, Days Gone, Spider-Man, etc. Was hoping to see something pretty left field.

Actually, there was Monster Hunter World which looks pretty rad. That'll be worth waiting for. Make no mistake: there are absolutely games coming. They showed off some great titles. But I cherish E3 because I get to learn about games I didn't know existed. This year, only Shadow and Monster Hunter really got me, but one of them is a tentative nay right now, despite being a Bluepoint remake of my second favorite PS2 game.

But seriously, where is Sucker Punch? What about Michael Ancel's WiLD? Deep Down? No From Software? Update on FF7? Shenmue III, which got our money for via crowd funding? Feels like they pulled their punches, but we did get to see Detroit, which has been enigmatic for a while.

For the record, I'm aware I've known about some of those for a while but giving them a presence would've been very welcome over things like FFXV VR.

Overall, I found it to be the more enjoyable show so far, but now I'm really interested in what Nintendo might announce. I shouldn't complain about Sony though since most of the types of games I like (JRPGs and niche titles) are likely to be saved for TGS and PSX. Here's hoping for another Gravity Rush or Persona 5 add-on and big updates on Ni No Kuni II and FF7 announcement.

Yup, you pretty much just summed it up perfectly. I mean it was a good show considering how lackluster this E3 has been but I was really looking forward to some announcements that weren't there. It just seemed like they were playing it safe. I'm really curious about what Sucker Punch is doing, but mainly the one thing I was hoping for the most was to see From Software pop up on the screen.

E3 only comes around once a year so maybe I was expecting too much, especially now that Sony does the PSX too, but still. Anthem is the best looking new reveal for me out of this E3, can't wait to see more on that. All the trailers for Days Gone, Uncharted DLC and God of War were really good, not knocking them at all, I just already knew they were coming. I never played the remaster for Shadow of the Colossus, so I'll definitely be picking up the remake, and it was cool to see a Monster Hunter game back on a PlayStation console again, I haven't played one of those since the very first one.

Spiderman looked great as did God of War but not enough new stuff and Days Gone was underwhelming which is a shame because last year it was one of the best games shown. Now it's just another third person open world game on par with what Ubisoft is doing. PSVR is still underwhelming and at roughly 60 minutes it just felt like an extended Nintendo Direct. Where is Dreams, what is Sucker Punch doing? But of course you came into this E3 knowing Sony was going to win regardless so I am wasting my breath here.

No, it was a bad conference. Sony always has a fantastic show, they're the highlight for me every year. But this year's show was sloppy, disappointing, and boring. There were literally so many people yawning, or with no expression on their face at all. They looked so bored.

Barely anything new, and even less that were unexpected. Aside from EA, everyone else brought their A game. Bethesda's show was good, Microsoft's show was great, and Ubisoft absolutely killed it this year.

It feels like Sony just isn't even trying anymore because they're so far ahead of the competition. I was hoping for a great show from them, and they basically just phoned it in. I never thought Sony would disappoint me, they're always so great at E3.

I think the problem with Sony is they showed their hand a little too early to capitalize on MS's stumbles out of the gate with future releases, so there are only so many studios left to develop new stuff. Gotta wait for some of those to release before we can get a new wave of games - hopefully we get a few more things at PSX, like a reveal for Sucker Punch's new game.

Also, I'm not quite sure why you thought MS had a great show. I thought it was as meh as everyone else this year. I guess Sony should have gotten more 3rd Party devs to show multiplat games or indies? I actually saw an article on Polygon or something asking Sony where the Indies were - can't win for losing lol.

But to be fair, Sony still has a lot of solid offerings - and exclusives at that - but we already knew about them, so there wasn't a lot of new hype. Past E3's set us up for lofty expectations, and they certainly didn't hit them this year.

Seems almost as likely they saw the collective shrug shown for MS's conference and held stuff off for future reveals if they need it - and in the process, have less shown-way-too-early announcements, hopefully announcing new games with release dates within the year.

I actually liked a couple of those VR games. The Spiderman game looked great, but the gameplay was nothing but scripted QTE. You could pick (X) or (R1) to do one thing or (Triangle) and (L1) for something else. WTF!?!? Where was Bloodborne 2 & GT Sport? Thank you for Days Gone gameplay. Can't wait for that. Why was Shawn Layden the only one to come to the stage? Where was the rest of the Sony staff members? Did you see the audience after it was over? They were still sitting in their seats looking around saying to themselves "Was that it?!?! Is it over. They actually thought more was coming, even though Shawn had "Thanks for coming, good night." Talk about a puzzled audience. Sorry fanboys, but Sony's conference wasn't much better then Microsoft's. At least Sony had some exclusives that weren't timed.

Sony started theirs with a Playstation Vue ad. That's pretty bad. Neither conference was great or bad. Both were mediocre at best.

You were right about Crackdown 3. I saw the SP campaign gameplay and it did not look great. The animation was bad. Can easily tell it's 30fps. The devs should be ashamed. Looks like the game was made for XB1, but was never upgraded to Xbox One X. I doubt they will fix it before it's released.

Man, I was let down by this. Yeah sure I enjoyed SotC, herizon expansion, GoW, and Detroit but noting else really got me. It was a alright presentation, don't get me wrong, it was not bad. I just felt... I guess you could say underwhelmed.

Overall for a Sony conference it was pretty weak. Started off super strong but then monster Hunter, ff15 VR and the VR games really brought it down.

Detroit I producing new character was cool and looks like the gameolay is gonna be a lot more open than QDs past games. Remake of shadow of the colossus is damn cool! All I will say is that this E3 2017 was terrible and boring and I expected more from the developers in terms of games. Most of these games are slated for 2018 and beyond and my prediction now for The Last Of Us 2 is slated for 2019 release based on the fact GOW isn't coming until 2018 and Detroit probably late 2018, early 2019 at best.

So much flair from every conference but no concrete release dates until or mostly 2018 or beyond. I'm starting to lose faith in E3 and the developers. The standard should be "Show Games That Will Release In 2017, ONLY!" Rinse & Repeat

Very odd how Ni No Kuni 2 didn't get a showing here. Great presser, but would have loved to see one game we really didn't know about. Though how can you be mad when they literally have a handful of some of the best games coming to PS4. Looks like we will get another dominant 2018. The sign too that games like AC Origins and Anthem wanted to show their games off running on X1X should also be a huge sign to everyone....Anthem running on X1X watching on a 4k TV is EASILY the best game I have ever seen...and that's 3rd party. Then after seeing all the great upgrades they made to Forza 7 with weather and such...yeah I get it's a racer, but even with the upgrades more than just running 4k 60Fps...it STILL has 30% of it's game available power just waiting to be used.

In UK I woke up to watch it and glad I did. It was well presented getting me more excited for games like uncharted, days gone and GOW, COD even.No talking and just trailers kept it fast paced which explans the shorter time. Short and very sweet,no weird non gaming bits.Monster hunter and shadow were brillant annoucements.Good them supporting vr and Skyrim vr! like seriously skyrim, looking forward to getting it again! Everything was high quality Sony exclusives except for like 4 games, the amount of times Sony entertainment appeared was amazing! All trailers got enough time and none dragged on as each showed something new or more to it. Spier man looks to be a really good. Gave the MS conference an honest review and I'll do the same with Sony. I mosly game on Playstation but I'm no fanboy. Quick scoring and opinions:

Console: Nothing new like MS but I'll give the Pro the same score I gave X1X. 7/10. Not necessary but cool if you NEED 4K and/or can't stand even the slightest drop of a stable frame rate. Nothing harmful but not necessary.

Games: 8/10
Much better than MS and it's not even close. Shadow of The Colossus Remake was the highlight for me. I'll say that now. A true remake of a top-5 game for me? Yes, yes and yes yes yes.

Here is where I have to be honest, as I promised. Days Gone looks like a zombie re-skin of Horizon to me. It didn't sell me. Some parts look interesting but it feels cookie cutter outside of the horde feature.

GoW? I'm a big GoW fan. Man, every concern I had was validated in that showing. There is a growing mold within the Sony library that I find disturbing and that's every game trying to be a Naught Dog title. I'll go into more later but I do not care about that kid and the engine just doesn't look right for a GOW title. Kratos is Kratos, a murder machine. No need to try to add a touching tale of growth, travel, protection and blegh. It's Kratos. I'd be a lot more ok with it if they simply used a different protagonist or even did a complete reboot, a Kratos with no memory or something. It's trying to be 3 different things at once and it looks like it may fail at all of them. It looks mediocre in every way but visuals and that's maybe worse than just being a bad game (Ascension). It looks mediocre, bandwagony and tryhard.

Spiderman? Looks great! A bit too QTE but it's doing a lot so it's ok.

Detroit: I'm from Detroit and this hasn't sold me yet. Liked Heavy Rain but the one with Ellen Page was pretty average. Today may have made me less excited, if anything.

Monster Hunter: F yes! Day one.

VR had a decent showing, too! I won't list them all but most looked interesting.

I swore I'd never buy another COD but man do I love a WW2 setting. I'll likely grab it for the SP.

A lot of other stuff ranging from ok to good. Nothing blew me away outside of a 12yo old game remake. That left me in awe but the rest was simply solid. A lot of good stuff not even in the show itself, too.

My Concern mentioned above: Sony showed 5 games in the pre-show and actual show that were 3rd person, "disappear in the weeds" games. It feels like everything is trying to be Horozon/TLoU/Uncharted and that's concerning. Studios aren't doing the long haul anymore, they want major fame NOW! So, they make a 3rd person, story based action adventure TLoU clone and expect the same results. Fn Kratos is now on a journey with a kid. Kratos! "I DECAPITATE GODS WITH MY HANDS" Kratos is on a dangerous, emotional adventure with a kid. Kratos.

If MS is now the company that steals ideas to make crap, bootleg versions of the games you love (they are), I'm concerned Sony may be greenlighting too many games in that style. It's a bit concerning. 5 games today with that exact style.

Conference as a whole: 8/10

Again, a bit underwhelming but they didn't have to knock us out this year. MS was garbage and it's a pretty mediocre E3 all around this year. By far the highlight. Avoiding Playstation this gen would be a mistake.

So yes, Sony cleaned the HOUSE again as usual. I'm not surprised how many down voted my comment. I understand how bad Microsoft is performing due to the severe lack of exclusive games and the expensive price tag. Sony decided to be conservative and show off the train of games. There will be more on TGS respectively. They are not using all their best moves all at once. Sony doesn't need to blow all their rounds. Few suffice to put Microsoft in their place.

Sony did what gamers wanted. DELIVER THE GAMES, simple.

Word is starting to leak that Sony pulled 3 major announcements "some time last night". Most are putting the pieces together that it was after the MS conference. Basically, they were ready to reapond with a grand slam if needed and they felt safe to save titles for PSX, TGS, etc.

Lots of info about other games came out before the show even began. Like the GT Sports date. I was watching it before the event began. I wasn't moved actually by the conference​, apart from Spiderman and GoW.

While 3 seems extreme, it wouldn't surprise me if they pulled at least one. Some speculated they pulled one last year, where they ended up showing Days Gone game play at the end instead of something new(potentially TLOU2 if I had to guess). That showing last year seemed disjointed from the rest of the conference, where they were showing game play with almost all the reveals at the time of the reveal.

I do think Sony had some leeway after MS conference though. It wouldn't take much to really out do that one. Kind of sucks for us though, because it ended up making the conference a bit of a disappointment because of how they were relentless the past two years with announcements.

What they did show was pretty good overall though. Not much new, but fun to watch except for the VR lull.

This seems very plausible. Maybe he meant 3 "major" titles but us fans would only view 1 or 2 as "major"? It's all relative I guess.

I think the overall point is what you and others are saying - Sony didn't have to show their full hand after the MS conference. I buy that due to MS being garbage this year. If Sony was disappointing to people MS had to have been dogs**t.

Sony has the advantage of adjusting their conference since they always go after MS.
The only time they were caught without a proper response was when Kinect was announced.

Last year, It was clear that they had cut something (the Days Gone demo was out of place)

It's quite possible they did the same this year.

I think it's very plausible that Sony was poised to beat MS by showing the games. Layden even emphasized just how important the games were over all else. It was an obvious reference to what people are saying that MS has no games to show off their new awesome hardware. As an aside, it actually shows that someone at Sony does have their ear towards the community, because for a few years now they've said things which are very pointed criticisms towards MS within the community.

Anyhow, maybe Sony decided to dial that back this year, despite doubling down on games for the past year. I think the past year of Sony pounding home the games left and right is what made this conference a disappointment. Not that it was a bad conference by any means, lots of good stuff was shown, just no big huge announcements that make people go crazy. Ultimately though, Sony didn't have a whole lot to prove this year, and MS pretty much allowed Sony to coast until the next E3.....although I assume that Sony will have some good stuff to show at other conferences later this year. They may hold more back though in case MS starts to show signs of not sucking sometime soon.

Lol true, the more i think about it the less i enjoy it. E3 was a slight disappointment. Biggest pop was for og xbox compatibility. Xbox one X get expected price (idkwtf those $800 sayers was talkin about) anthem looked great. That was about all there was to get "super" excited for. Everything else was decent or meh. Got my eyes on days gone and sod2. Thought spiderman wouldve been 2017

Solid presentation but one of the weakest Sony's E3

The great!
- PSVR is alive and kicking well with some 1st party games (the impatient was my wow moment)
- SPIDERMAN WOW!!!!!!!!
- The pacing, the 1-hour format was perfect

The good!
all AAA games from Sony feels epic with some nice screen time (unlike MS who crammed everything in 1 min trailers)
- Nice to really see some gameplay for all major game!

Sony knocked it out of the park again this E3, maybe not as amazing as last years, but big announcements & great looking gameplay footage.
Shadow of the Colossus remake looked pretty good, wonder if they'll add the content that they couldn't fit in the original.

The funny thing is that all the big games up top delivered what was expected graphically.

Also for some reason people are forgetting that Sony has their own show which they will have more stuff for.

this years e3 has been terrible microsoft was the worst but i never had any interest in that anyways, sony was terrible they just showed nothing but hyper realistic games with QTE and most of the games showed are 2018 release. Only monster hunter, they could have shown ninokuni and dissidia even dragonball fighters from arc.

Which makes this game such a great change of pace. There is reason behind that madness now other then "time to kill stuff" lol

Mind you, I was fine with that in 2005.....then it got old. I love the God Of War series just based on gameplay, but Kratos was just such a 1 dimensional character that I'm happy to see him more human, as in order to really draw in anger, you must show them feeling something other then that in the first place.

I mean, what is anger really to someone that is always mindlessly angry? But give him a son, give him a soul, give him reason to show purpose behind that anger and you have something really engaging.

I'm really happy to see this IP grow as suppose to just being more of the same. The story in this game and The Last Of Us 2 might be the only stories I truly want to here and experience this gen to such a degree.

This is a very, very rare thing to see in gaming and I'm fine with what the team is trying to do, someone needs to try to push this in gaming.

It's not a surprise to see many xbox users trolling the Good Sony news and successes.

Sony delivered the games and left few surprises for the year. Why should they burn all their best surprises like TLOU2. Why Sony throw an overpowered machine like Microsoft did that costs 500 dollars and has no exclusive games for it? Why Sony bother with backward exclusivity when they look at the future with better looking games that has great gameplay like Horizon Zero Dawn. Why they need to focus on one brand when they hear the gamers making a true remastering of Shadows of the Colossus?

Consoles are for designed to play video games. Sony provided the games, why you snowflakes whine about it? Just stop posting your gripes and get some money for the PS4 and their games. Try to find out why Sony is doing things right this time instead of wasting 900 dollars on a Halobox of no exclusive games.
