Do You Really Want to Replay The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim All Over Again This October?

OnlySP: When I first heard the rumors that Bethesda was remastering Skyrim for the current generation of consoles I was pretty excited. Then I heard they were adding mod support to the game and I got even more excited. Finally, the game was shown off at Bethesda’s E3 conference and it was at that point I pretty much asked myself: am I really going to play through the entire game again?

If you played the PC version, then Yes, your save will carry over BUT if you played either the PS3/X360 version, then No.. you have to start a new game.

For me it's a yes too, though I'm not pleased at the price. It quite simply is not worth it. Here's why.

Currently the Skyrim Legendary Edition for consoles sits at around $20 to $30 depending on where you're buying it.

What the remaster offers is not worth an additional $30 to $40. Why? Well for 3 main reasons.

1. The graphical upgrades are A) Something that happened not as an intention to bring the game out as a remaster, but to test out Fallout 4's engine and B) Likely of the same quality as Bethesda's own High Res Texture pack they released for the PC version.

2. Mod support will not even be proper mod support because Script Extension won't even function on the consoles, so the most we can expect is basic mods like reskins. The consoles won't handle graphical mods, and thanks to Sony's proprietary nonsense with their sound format the PS4 can't really expect funny mods like the changes to the Shouts. So in the end the mod support is likely to be extremely lackluster.

3. This remaster was even an intention for Bethesda. It exists because of Fallout 4 so the work was already done and not for the sake of making a remaster. Bethesda thinks phoning in a remaster with ported upgrades and pitiful mod support is worth full price and it's not.

And not 5 years after it released. I loved Skyrim but don't quite understand how people are feeling the urge to play this for hundreds of hours AGAIN. From a sales perspective this might be the perfect time to release a remaster, but I would've preferred to see a reimagined Morrowind instead.

This. I ONLY play full price for PROPER Remasters like Odin Sphere or Gravity Rush Remastered or Ratchet and Clank etc remasters that took alot of time and effort and changed lots of things

Played the demo for Odin Sphere and although for me it was an interesting game I doubt I will get the full game.

Have not played R&C for the PS4 yet although I do have the PS2 original. I will be getting the R&C reboot though but not just yet since I have plenty of other games I am playing at the moment.

I got a special discount on Gravity Rush Remastered (over half price) and for me, this is one highly addictive game. I have only got 12 out of 16 of the "Traveler's Story" yet and some of those challenges really do require a lot of skill especially if you wish to beat some of the world's top players (closest I got was just under 20,000). Actually, this game reminds me of the PS2 game Kya, although story-wise it is different.

Lets be honest, for Skyrim, there never will be actual mod support for it.

Script extender wont work on it and no mods where others are required will pass through bethesda.net
On top of that there a 2gb max on xbox and 900mb currently on ps4.

i'm using some mods on my pc version that are over 5gb of textures, audio recording, new quests and textures.
you wont be bale to get Machoman randy savage as the dragons, no thomas the tank engine for fus ro dah,
the mod support for console is going to be very limited in comparison to pc

The PS3 version had what is called the "6MB bug" in that when your saves got over 6MB the auto saves started to take longer and longer with freezes upto 60 seconds. The only solution was to turn off all auto saves and save manually. You only end up forgetting one or two times. 😉

The question I want answered is will oblivion be offered as an incentive to buy skyrim remaster? especially as skyrim remaster still isn't available to pre order on the Xone but is on the ps4. Is it possible that Microsoft is currently testing oblivion for backwards compatibility hence the delay in being able to pre order skyrim.

Oh yes, I never played any of the DLC and was planning an elf archer playthrough for some time before my house was broke into and game stole, never bought it again but this is good reason to. Mods (if PS4 can ACTUALLY run them) is a game changer, plus I just look forward to taking screenshots haha.

We will have to wait some time to get another Elder Scrolls game. I don't consider ESO to be a valid iteration of what I like from a ES game. I'm replaying RDR on Xbox one right now and it's because I love that game! Sure it's not a remaster and doesn't have a $60 price tag but I love it all the same. I prefer Skyrim over Fallout games. I'd rather have a new ES game over any fallout any day. Some people will disagree and hey that's perfectly fine. But I don't want to wait 4 to 7 years for a new Elder Scrolls game. I'll take this over nothing. I just wish it wasn't $60 and more like $45ish.

To answer the headline question, no. I played it massively already on ps3/pc and have no desire to return to it again. Now if Bethesda remastered Oblivion, with updated character models, animations, voice over, graphics, and online pvp arena matches etc then I'd be all over that like a fat kid on a cupcake.

Thought 2 of them were pretty good (Dawnguard and Dragonborn), nothing amazing, but they added a few nice new things to the base game and were good by themselves too. The other one is mediocre at best though, basically just a mod that Bethesda released as a DLC.

Edit: It probably depends on how much you like the base game, I wouldn't say it's worth $60 though.

I have it on steam so I get the update for free....FYI the story mode of Skyrim is not required to finish in order to level up or do quests.... I actually never finished the story so probably go back ....Skyrim was a cool world to run around just doing quests ....updated graphics could be interesting even if its just for 10-30 hrs to admire the remaster...

I put hundreds of hours into it one of my favourite games of all time. If I haven't played it I would be getting it day one but I've done all that I had to do in skyrim so I might not get it this time around.

I spent a couple days modding Skyrim on PC and I got bored after level 2. If you've played Skyrim for 200+ hours like I have, chances are you're not going to be motivated enough to do that all over again no matter how many mods you add. Especially at that price.

A man always enjoys re-visiting classics (keep all the great single player games and usually get to them at least once a year for an easy mode run through). It's like re-visiting a classic film. Sure you know what's gonna happen but the experience is still fun. Skyrim on 7th gen also had a lot of framerate problems and low resolution so a man will welcome more immersion with better graphics and draw distance and such. A man also hopes for a PSVR mode for full immersion

This is exactly the reason I'm not too thrilled about the remaster. It should've be Oblivion/Morrowind first. Fortunately for me I only every played the main story and a couple of side quests in Skyrim, so I'll have a lot more to do in this remaster. For those I know who have sunk a good portion of their lives into it, I don't know what the redeeming quality will be exactly.
