Of course, Nintendo has always preferred physical sales, especially since they skew to a younger audience, and kids want games for their birthdays and holidays. They go to the store and pick the game they want.

Since the Wii they have always been the last major publisher to support modern tech or concepts, and they will be the last to support physical if it ever goes away. Which I hope it doesn't.

darthv7229d ago

Nintendo just likes sales in general. If they can sell digital more, they would because the 2nd hand market they do not get a cut of. For me, i tend to buy more physical switch games than I do other platforms. I do have my fair share of digital deals from the eshop though. Especially if its something that i have a sealed physical copy of and dont want to reduce its value.

Cacabunga29d ago

Then I know for sure who I will be supporting

neutralgamer199229d ago

OK, but you need better format where these games could actually fit instead of half of the game being in physical form and all I have being on a digital code or have to download

Hofstaderman29d ago

The one caveat with cartridges. If the leaks are true the internal storage stands at 256gb plus SD card support too.

franwex29d ago

You could have a 256gb card and a 10gb card. Publishers will simply use the 10gb one and make you download the rest.

Inverno29d ago

There are cards that can fit all of a game but those cost more, and publishers are cheap. It's weird cause with how much the switch has sold and how long it's been on the market the costs to manufacture these cards should've been much lower by now. It's a publisher issue cause there has only been very few exceptions on PS and Xbox, rest of the industry would rather force a download despite Blu-ray being cheap.

shinoff218329d ago

Your right. It's definitely a publisher issue. From my time collecting that's what I've come across. Just always remember

Doesitplay.org

Tell you everything you need to know about releases.

Flakegriffin29d ago

Pretty sure most, if not all, of Nintendo first party titles are all on cartridge. It’s the third parties.

Neonridr29d ago

that's on devs who opt for cheaper sized cartridges to save on manufacturing costs.

Yeah it artificially retains the high prices for their software. Hence Pirates will always have their day with them.

During the IGN Live interview with Phil Spencer, the crowd cheered even if the topic was about closures, and its because they were told to.

A very "slimey" thing to do right Phil???

Anyhow ive never trusted IGN, corrupt to the core.

Killer2020UK12h ago

And now they own a load of other gaming outlets. Sucks for the consumer

roadkillers12h ago

It's not scummy... how is this any different than any late night talk show for the past 60 years. People are cued when to cheer, partially artificial I am sure. It's also good for IGN, last thing they want is THEIR show to be a dud.

I would definitely do it if I owned IGN, especially getting someone huge like Phil.

S2Killinit12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

I’ve been saying for years that IGN is MS’s mouthpiece.

fr0sty11h ago

@roadkillers... I dunno, maybe because late night talk shows aren't asking people to cheer for hundreds of people losing their jobs?

ravens5210h ago

Late Night Talk Show vs Consumer Showcase/Interview. How are you even putting them in the same category. One is for pure entertainment the other is an interview based on a product.

PRIMORDUS9h ago

And how much is MS worth? 3 trllion and Phil the piece of shit saying "the closures are very hard, but needed for sustainable business" Really? Your worth 3 trillion and the closures were no where near necessary. I don't know about you but I want this asshole to just leave and resign. He's just cancer to the industry.

jjb19813h ago

Roadkillers can't wait to have huge Phil. It makes sense.

It's crazy. Some of the top people at IGN are really great, but the organization as a whole just continually finds itself in controversy.

Lightning7711h ago

It's all for recognition and publicity. Which doesn't work. It was all staged and disingenuous.

Hard to trust anything IGN does especially now they have a monopoly.

VenomUK2h ago

I’ve watched the clip. To be fair, whenever you are hosting an event with an audience it’s standard to hype them up as a reactive audience is better for the energy in the room which translates well for viewers at home. It’s the reason comedians have warm up acts and TV shows too. I don’t think at any point there was an instruction from Microsoft to do that. This narrative is silly.

What I would focus on is this IGN pandering event not being live, in front of a specially selected audience and fanboy presenter Ryan McCaffrey who asked lowball questions and didn’t really follow up the difficult topics with any bite- this was a lack of integrity.

crazyCoconuts12h ago

Hard to trust the integrity of the reviews when they are caught manipulating their audience

-Foxtrot10h ago

Now that IGN owns a lot of sites now it’s hard to trust a fair few

Aloymetal12h ago

And some get triggered when we call on their BS and state the obvious. Anyone with half a brain knows the gaming media is biased as heck. It's been like that since forever and the sad part is they will gladly do it for free, anything to help their preferred and irrelevant brand.

Jin_Sakai12h ago

Should be laws in place against these form of actions. Same goes for all the fake 5 start reviews for receiving free items. You can’t believe anything you read or hear anymore.

porkChop11h ago

In journalism school they straight up taught us to never take free products, swag, food, etc, even if there are no strings attached. Even if someone doesn't realize it, and no matter how far removed the swag is from what you're covering/reviewing, free stuff does affect how you perceive the company and its products. It tricks you into feeling more positive about things.

Petebloodyonion11h ago

How's this Phil doing?
Was Phil in charge of the 3-day fanfest called IGN Live 2024?

https://www.ign.com/article...

OlderGamer171h ago

Every time i see a comment from Peterbloodyonion i know what coming.. defend MS, Xbox and Phil.. Never i have seen a remark of any kind of negativity, not once...that says enough...

Chevalier8h ago

Personally IGN=IGNore

Can't spell IGNorant without IGN

babadivad7h ago

When they're "professional critics" console war on Twitter, you should know not to take them seriously.

Sonic18814h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I never trusted IGN or fanboy Ryan McCaffrey 😁

Snookies1213h ago

Just reading this headline alone made me feel grimy. Disgusting, all around. Haven't trusted IGN since over a decade ago, so this isn't really surprising to hear.

Leeroyw7h ago

IGN lost a lot of credibility a long time ago. Now they're running on fumes.

Skuletor12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

I think that kind of thing night be standard. I once was in the audience for Wheel of Fortune and there was a guy that briefed us before the show on his hand signals, when we were supposed to react/applaud and stuff like that and we were told to check under our seats because one of them had a prize underneath it.

Edit: Okay, read the article, this was definitely some slimy behaviour by IGN and it sounds like it wasn't just on the behalf of Xbox either.

Also, since IGN bought Humble Bundle years ago, they stopped occasionally giving a game away for free during certain big sales events etc, screw IGN.

Profchaos11h ago

It is for say a game show or similar shows for entertainment purposes but a interview not really.

Petebloodyonion10h ago

Bruno Rodriguez confirmed that his statement applied to the entire three-day Fanfest event, not solely Phil Spencer's interview. Regrettably, this part of his response is absent from the article, which raises questions about its omission.
Here is the complete explanation
https://x.com/BrunoRo115301...

DarXyde6h ago

Petebloodyonion,

It is an odd omission. While I do believe IGN has some problematic biases, one can't really say it's done for Spencer in light of this information.

Good follow up.

Inverno12h ago

IGN not being trustworthy? Yeah we've been knowing that.

GaboonViper12h ago

I remember when they gave Alien Isolation a bad review because the alien AI acted like a actual Xenomorph which was free to do what it wanted and hunt you down, and docked Days Gone points because it had a white female as Deacons Girl, oh and they have one of the worst fanboys in Dustin, he has no shame whatsoever.

Inverno11h ago

Don't forget "too much water". It's like they hate hire people that hate their jobs. This is a people problem, when people aren't humbled they become full of themselves. IGN and other news publishers have been given too much sway, and too much preferential treatment. They forget they're meant to inform the people, and have instead become a tool to sell an image these companies want to portray. Perception of power and authority and influence corrupts people.

Release it again properly on disc or a two disc set with the second volume which you should do correctly this time. That also doesn't mean bundling the old disc release with volume 2 either. Proper release with all the patched data on disc and no region locked versions of MGS1 only available via download.

Cacabunga13h ago

I like their spirit tbh.. looks like they want to get closer to the fans, which is nice..
a big patch to begin with and i would buy it.

Or how about MGS: Rising remaster/remake/sequel… anyone?

just_looken32m ago(Edited 31m ago)

If only they listed to kojima let him use the fox engine to enhance the games bring them up to new consoles.

Right now performance is nothing compared to no keyboard/mouse support the digital extras need internet as they are online pdf's and the game itself has has stuff taken out nothing story just over time they lost the right to non story related Easter eggs material.

Oh also lets not forget mgs2 is on pc via gog has mouse/keyboard support with all content then you got mgs1 via duckstation running awesome on pc.

I mean dam only thing better was the mgs4 hd map upgrade
https://youtu.be/aetsSOfMRq...

Edit

Oh i forgot the games do not even have widescreen support heck not even a proper graphics settings menu.

Yi-Long18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Everything on disc and Japanese audio plus English subs would be nice. It's nice that they apologize and state an intent to do better, but honestly this kind of quality-control should have been done in-house during the decision-making process, before release.

outsider162418h ago

Get back to the drawing board and either remaster properly or just remake it it.

ANIALATOR13616h ago

Remaster every game yourself. Don't just port the Bluepoint versions of MGS2/3. Because even those weren't 100% perfect. They were still missing some effects in cutscenes for example. Just take absolute care with them and take your time to make sure you release something that pays reverence.

Razzee12h ago

Honestly, what's the point of a PS5 physical disc, while restricting the PS4 edition only to Europe?

Since the PS4 ver. upgrades for free to the PS5 ver, only PS4 copies should be made available.

Elden Ring's developers know most players use guides, still try to cater to those who go in blind

FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki says reading guides is "perfectly valid," but doesn't want it to be a necessity.

It's open world and filled with content so that's a given. Bosses I always wanna go blind asides from following a guide to only find optional bosses after I've beaten the game. Pretty sure there's still loads of content I haven't discovered yet in the base game lol.

blackblades1d 15h ago

I only use guides when I'm stuck some where for a long period of time or trophy hunting which is rare cause I had retired that.

Cacabunga1d 1h ago

I first finish a game, then use a guide for the missable stuff..
Only game I used guide from beginning was Crisis Core reunion where it’s impossible to do on your own and where every single thing is missable

The_Hooligan18h ago

I use a guide to see if there are any missable trophies. If there are, I will make sure to use the guide to get them but if there are none then I don't use the guide at all and just go explore the way I want to.

-Foxtrot1d 15h ago

To be fair I think a lot only use guides because they don't want to be locked out of side missions or endings.

I love the game but trying to find certain NPC's and the like as you play through the game felt like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

A simple "quest tracker" would be handy, just to give you a hint at where to go, where you last found them, if you've locked yourself out of not. Not flashy or anything, just something you can find on your map when you open it.

fsfsxii23h ago

just play ubisoft titles where everyone's a winner and stop complaining about minute shit like always

Dudeson21h ago

Come on man... Among all the unnecessary complaining that gamers do, not wanting to miss things in a game you like is actually a valid concern. I love from software games, but you gotta admit some things can just be too damn hidden to find without a hint. I love stumbling upon things myself, but missing out is not an option either.

GaboonViper1d 13h ago

Nope never use guides, what i love about games is discovering the mysteries and magic of the Worlds, i remember the great Shigeru Miyamoto saying as young boy he would love exploring woods and caves and finding things and he wanted to expand that to games as in Zelda.

Walalon18h ago

The sense of discovery it's one of big strengths of Elden Ring... Looking for every cave, NPC and even the surprise dragons on zones are an awesome time. Now with the DLC around the corner this feeling it's going to start up again, can't wait!

franwex1d 1h ago

I never use guides, unless it’s something that I’m stuck on-that I know I will resolve with enough time-but I don’t feel that the time is worth the investment. Such as a side quest for better gear.

Hotpot1d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

I use guide because in my adult life I can barely get 2 hours of gameplay a day. Can’t waste those 2 hours floundering about, or worse, accidentally make irreversible decision that makes the rest of playthrough full of regret. Usually only for missables though, it’s not like I want to read guides every 5 minutes of playing.
