and can't we say much the same thing for the ps3?

with 3.61 million sales in 2006 jumping to 9.24 in 2007 (source: http://www.scei.co.jp/corpo... [i know it's from sony]), they're pretty much on the same boat right now.

which takes me to the latter part of my last reply. hardware sales are never as predictable as this, with many things into consideration:

simple math i think?

given 3 years with 22 million sales for xbox 360:
22 million/3(12 months) = 611,111.11

and given 2 years with 17 million sales for ps3:
17 million/2(12 months) = 708,333.33

it is grossly overestimated but this will give you a rough idea how ps3's they say are selling better than 360's.

and if, hypothetically, sales remain as such for the coming year 2009 and 2010.

good thing microsoft never followed sony to include a high def player in their console... that would've been very bad...

as for the case of sony... i do believe they really needed blu-ray to win... not only because of the movies but because of their games... they even delayed the release of their console for this... this gen's games are consuming a lot more space than before... and don't give me the "that's because of CGI which we don't need" crap... some people want ...

"As for the Cell and Blu-Ray, they are nothing new, the cell is just a faster processor, Blu-Ray is like DVD yet it can hold more."

cell is just a faster processor yes... yet it is new technology since it holds the data a bit different unlike the PC processors nowadays... yet if you put it simply... yes the processors of both ps3 and the 360 are only faster processors... but viewing it technically says otherwise...

and blu-ray... i do agree with you abo...

really... when you look at MS' "playing safe" strategy... "lets wait and see if the gamers really need larger HDD", "lets wait and see if the gamers really need blu-ray or hd-dvd", "lets wait and see if the gamers really need motion sensing", "lets wait and see if they really need hdmi"... you see guys... they ALWAYS wait and see... in this industry... it's not always ok to play safe... you have to take risks... you also have to have a foundat...

"Xbox 360 didn't have a mountain to fix, yet PlayStation 3 does"

- although this is not meant for me, i do like to make a comment about it... did sony ever said that their online service will be perfect.. no... xbox 360 didn't have a mountain to fix because they already fixed it during their xbox days... they are more experienced in online functionality than sony... and i agree with that... yet ps3, even though only starting with their online service has a lot of pote...

i do agree with #1... they're sayign this because FFXIII will be released in 2008... but FF has always been a big title for the PS brand... because it's always known for good story and great cg's... which is not bad by the way... because good rpg's has to have them... the FF franchise certainly attracted many rpg fanatics... and rpg fans is one of the biggest part of the gaming community... along with fps... and the ps was always known as the rpg console...

but i do agree with some of his points regarding the ps3...

- high price and few good games
>for now... and yes the price is high but their system is not over-priced... its just right... from a business stand point, losing $200 for every product sold is a big risk in any electronics... but every console has done it... ps1, ps2 ps3, xbox, xbox 360... if you are asking for them to reduce the price... its like you're asking them to jump of a cliff and crack their skulls ...

as a comment for those who say "why sony fanboys say wait till next year?"...

- you see, since the beginning of time, their console has always been the "toughest nut crack"... devs always seem to have a challenge using all the potential of Sony's console... since ps1... so why wait till next year? same reason why good xbox games are appearing only right now... give the developers a time to get used to the hardware.. sony gave the hardware with so much poten...

i do agree with that MS made the "hurry up, buy our console and wait" strategy... i mean... yeah the 360 has great games and all... but i think it really lacked "killer apps" during their first year... when i say killer apps: i'm saying gears of war, halo, etc... could have released those much sooner to achieve more fan base... they could have reached their target 10 mil units sold by the time ps3 releases... but since they released their console too early, even though the...

would just like to point out something about those "back then HDD is pissed, now it's awsome" argument...

- just think about downloadable games... those low budget games that they are making for online distribution (and ps1 games downloads)... that's what's the HDD is for... and there are others who, like what we can do in a pc, store all of their music and movies on it... imagine how much space would that consume... certainly not 200gb but others like to have so man...

guys guys guys... don't take his comments as if it you can only say it about the 360...

"I think we've only scratched the surface of what we can do with gameplay as well as the 360."

i think you can probably say this as well for the ps3... the launch games only tapped a few percent of the ps3's total capacity... remember that these consoles are new arcitechture and takes time for developers to get used to... there is still a lot to discover, and talking...

it's not like sony is giving it all away for free... downloadable games and the ps1 games and some very exclusive content will be sold, not given for free... so another source of income for sony to host their server for free... as to game developers... they do earn a lot of money from sold games... even though the developing cost is rising... they still earn huge amounts of money (if their game is a hit)... certainly they could chunk out a few of it to host the servers...

in my opinion... it isn't such a bad idea... at least now its confirmed that we will have a unified log-in ID for all of the games... it's just that some games will offer some features in their own way... like the buddy list... some may want their buddies in resistance separated from their buddies in the other games... i mean i don't know much about how Xbox Live works... but wouldn't it be nice if say your playing resistance, and you only want your buddies in resistance to contact you... you...
