people freaked out about this with Doom last year...The release was surprisingly stable on all platforms, and was a strong GOTY contender across the board.

I'm not interested in Prey specifically, but as a policy, I don't find anything wrong with it. Or at least I don't find it any reason for concern in the context of the released quality. Gaming media has had decades to get their shat together overall, and failed to do so. The argument of them being the gatekee...

@lightning...

I'm not sure what you mean, exactly...

Originally, Call of Duty heavily focused on different fronts of WWII from the perspective of various allied soldiers. I don't think any of them were 'just' Americans. They localize languages for all kinds of reasons, but literally everything you mentioned in your first post was in CoD 2. It opened as a direct rip from Enemy at the Gates (your russian sniper name was even 'Vassili'...

Do people still think physical games 'sell out'...?

Pre-ordering exists for financial reasons, 'gamers' keep falling for it...Pre-ordered sales allow publishers to book liquid asset's against low risk liabilities with accurate revenues within fiscal quarters that a game does not release in...they stabilize the 'red, red, red, black' issue that many industries face (as in, they have a single profitable quarter per year that hopefully makes up for ...

^I hate these topics, and i'm not taking sides...but:

gender, by definition, is a social awareness of reproductive state...not a biological one (that is simply an organism's 'sex'). So, to be fair, a person's gender is very much up for debate, and not that simple in the context of the definition...

The science of 'sex' is locked solid...no debating that...gender, however, is whatever popular opinion wants it to be. A small, but...

The ancient memory argument simply won't die...

the memory pool is just an illustration of how much information a computer can have 'ready' to be calculated...Scorpio still has a cpu originally intended to run on a battery (it literally is a low TDP laptop part)...

but seriously...w/e, this is nothing new...a dev comes out and claims limitless power because of big amounts of memory feeding a very dated processor...and it's great news as fa...

The xbox brand did not have the 'highest rated exclusives' of last generation, as many have mentioned...

It's best titles were ALL available on PC (some day and date, some outside of a specific window like Gears), save Halo 3.

That resulted in MS's community moving the goal posts with the first ever notion of 'console exclusive' or w/e they called it.

As it stands...the highest rated true exclusive the Xbox brand...

I didn't really find TF2 to be underrated as much as simply forgotten.

Granted, I pay attention to about 15% of overall gaming media...from what I remember TF2 and Doom went toe to toe for FPS of the year without much struggle. Doom barely edged out TF2 with Giantbomb for shooter of the year, which then went on for runner up to goty...TF2 barely being topped by a title that went on to almost win it all is very respectable...

but yeah, in between BF1 a...

I've felt GG was one of the world's best developers, as far as rendering tech goes, since early 2009...

but ND runs an extremely close second.

If I had to pick a single game that highlighted the best of the best visually from last gen...it would be killzone 2, with uncharted 2 running a very close second. I think Uncharted 2 was overall the better game, but as far as the tech related to the visuals, and what was accomplished with lighting and ani...

@Greg:

I'm not talking about content. I never was. That is the problem with topics like this; console focused individuals want to talk about hardware until blue in the face, but then fall out of the conversation as soon as realistic comparisons are made against the 'claims' of how powerful a console is...and resort back to 'well, PC doesn't have any exclusives, so...' Oddly enough, this was a thread about MS's upcoming device, having nothing to d...

believe what ever you want, people...

but claiming a GPU that has been confirmed to fall in line between an AMD R9 280x and 290x...is somehow 'almost' a modern 1080 for no other reason than being in a console...I simply don't know what to say...

and that is without even touching on the cpu driving it...

Yeah, MS handed over some hardware with a single testable piece of 1st party software sharing assets with a renderer that w...

A 1080Ti can't do native 4k across every game, it struggles to hold 30 fps on GR wildlands, which is currently packed in with the card...

that card is more than a PS4 and PS4 Pro...combined (price wise, haha...and even more so performance wise)...Sony full well knew 4k 'was coming'...they also knew the rendering performance to do it still isn't close to main stream, nor are the costs associated...

I don't understand why people think developers are most concerned with 'maximum performance' for their particular game...

The original PS4 is by far the most popular chunk of hardware in consumer hands right now...developers will have literally no issue continuing to build software for it, especially considering the installed base keeps rising, and development costs keep falling...

developers aren't at all concerned about the PS4 holding a...

Everything you guys are saying is correct, but objectively...it IS the most complicated generation ever, arguably. That's what people are ignoring. It's not 'that' complicated, but it definitely is a stranger situation than it was even a year ago...let alone nearly every generation before this.

Woolly,

my eyes are watering...

Scorpio is a DX12 device...Ms has said that...DX12 exists on PC...in 2017 you're still one that believes that the magic of 'being a console' nets like triple the power over equivalent PC parts? despite them using the same API's moving forward?...you really think that a ~9Tflop 1080 is equal to a console's ~6, that 3 full Tflop's are just wasted in some kind of phantom overhead even with DX12/vulkan&#...

^100% completely untrue...

when this site went live it was nothing but a 360 fanatics dream. It was hardly playstation centric for most of last generation...For years the front page articles were opinions on when Sony would bow out of the hardware industry.

The only thing that happened was MS started paying for time based exclusitivity, 360's started RRoD'ing, kinect sucked...and then the xbox one announcement and that year's E3...where the xb...
