I don't think it is just the money Microsoft has wasted on the Xbox. Look at how much support Apple and the Mac is starting to get from PC game developers. That is a direct threat to one of Microsoft's core monopolies. Not significant in the business world but could have a huge effect in the consumer PC market if most PC games start to become available on the Mac.
