We're discussing consoles because we all have consoles on the brain...
On topic though, the multiplayer beta (which I played on my PC) was pretty awesome. The graphics were very nice, and I haven't had that much fun playing a FPS multiplayer game in a while.
Based on my experience, and taking this reviewers complaints into consideration, I would still rate this game at least 9/10. The weapon models were just fine.
I run Vista 64bit and like it a lot better than XP. I am not saying Vista is without its problems, but it isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be either. For one thing, I have never had any issue whatsoever with start-up time.
Having said that, 4GB of ram undoubtedly helps (but come on, ram is pretty cheap these days!).
Despite the fact that I personally like the PS3 and the Xbox 360 better that the Wii, I ended up getting the Wii. In a family setting, I just couldn't play many of the titles on the other 2 systems.
Ok, I will agree that $199 is a nice value for HD gaming. I will also agree that this really isn't a desperation move, and is a nice option for people who can't afford to have everything the PS3 (or even the Xbox Elite) offers. Being able to upgrade is nice, even if MS charges $100 for 20gb of storage, and won't give you a Blu-ray drive.
I stand by my earlier arguments, though, as my main point was that Microsoft's early efforts to gain a big market share lead were as desperat...
My point was that the Xbox 360 Arcade (Core also) are systems that Microsoft did not include game-affecting features on in order to make the price more appealing.
Why is it acceptable to introduce reduced feature consoles from the start in order to move systems, and not acceptable for Sony to remove features (ones which don't affect the performance of PS3 games) in order to do the same thing?
Microsoft did it to get a head start, and Sony did it to catch up. Both di...
@ power of green
"When MSFT starts removing features/hardware from the 360 to sell it cheaper and faster, we'll talk desperation."
Uh, what exactly is the Arcade SKU? Isn't it an Xbox 360 with no hard drive that was released because it allowed them to sell it at a more attractive price point?
The last time I checked, hard drives are hardware....
There was nothing in that article that said Ghostbusters was canceled. If it was, I wouldn't cry or anything, but the headline for that article is totally inaccurate. Just because it wasn't mentioned at E3, doesn't necessarily mean it was canned.
Their stock jumped big time around the time of the release of AoC, and has fallen back to where it was before the game's release. So yeah, it has fallen, but only back to reality. It isn't like the company totally crashed, it just came back to earth...
Think how unhappy their going to be when their well-publicized complaining results in countless people deciding to go with an Xbox 360 instead of a PS3.
We get so up in arms when things go well for the console we don't own because it may mean that awesome exclusive titles will end up on the other systems for profitability reasons in the long run, and then we turn around and shoot ourselves in the foot by complaining about the one we own.
Seriously, if you have an iss...
It seems like most people don't pay any attention to the posts in the middle.
To quote Ji: "You must remember guys, that it only can collect data from those who have the alexa toolbar installed, so its completely inaccurate."
He's absolutely right. Check the faq at alexa.com and it will tell you as much. They can only track the web traffic of users with their toolbar installed.
Honestly, I really expect that Google is the most trafficked si...
Let me start by saying that I am not a huge fan of Microsoft. I use Windows mainly because I am to lazy to bother with Linux, and to broke to bother with Apple. Having said that, I don't hate Microsoft either. They haven't ruined my life or even driven me away from the pc (yet).
So, I have to say that I think maybe people are taking out their frustrations on Microsoft in a display of greed and ignorance (qualities that most of these people would attribute to Microsoft). <...
Did the testers use play movies on the Xbox 360 during the test also? I noticed in the article that reference was made to the fact that the Wii and 360 remotes automatically turn off after a certain period of time. Was this duration during which the Wii and 360 remotes were automatically powered down included in the battery test?
If this "powered down" time was included in the test, then they should have turned off the PS3 remote during movies, as it will skew the r...
I believe that Nintendo would need a much better showing from their third -party developers in order to reach 100 million by 2012. I think that the momentum could possibly be there if they can accomplish that.
In addition, I think that consumer support for the 360 would also need to decrease significantly, and the PS3 would need to do more poorly than analysts are predicting.
@ Gen16Snes: Several reports have indicated that Sony is starting to break even on thei...
@ Wageslave: Not to challenge the validity of any of the statements within that linked article, but if you read the whole thing carefully, it clearly states that the analysis that is given is Microsoft's explanation of why the XBox 360 is more powerful.
Since it was written by one of the participants in this current-gen hardware war, it may be less objective than a third party analysis. Just keep that in mind when reading the linked article
Maybe this is ignorance on my part, but I don't believe 10 million signed up at the same time. That was a cumulative amount.
Having said that, no, you couldn't blame Microsoft for the service interruption if 10 million people suddenly decided to set up new Live accounts at the same time. (but that hardly applies to the current situation)
It's true that they were making money on both fronts, but they stand to make more money now if HD-DVD calls it quits.
Sure, WB makes money on both sides if they don't choose to go exclusive, but indecision on the consumer end and split efforts on the electronics end are castrating high-def format sales right now.
A single format would force the electronics and entertainment industry to put all of their effort in the same place, which would mean lower cost dis...
Honestly, I get tired of reading these stories about how the studios were "paid off". This goes for both the Blu-ray/WB connection and the HD-DVD/Paramount connection.
Does anyone think that these studios are seriously stupid enough to take a relatively small lump-sum payment as the motivation for switching to one of these formats?
When billions stand to be made or lost on a decision, your decision won't swing on whether or not you received a relativel...
It seems like it wasn't so long ago that there were a number of posts from PS3 owners complaining about the number of firmware updates, and how they were interfering with game play.
I really hope that this change isn't related to that. I never thought the updates were that bad, and I would prefer to improve my PS3 as the updates are available, rather than waiting until there is big update.
Of course, people complain with each update that there is no in-game xmb,...
I have to say I felt sorry for those guys doing that launch event and having nobody show up.
I think the game looks interesting and, if I owned a Wii, I would give it a try.
This is a paraphrased version of the same interview that was approved yesterday with a different title. I guess those who post these articles realize that the only thing that most of us respond to is the article title anyhow.
Since we don't read anything, they can post the same news fifty times, using different headlines, and we'll never notice.
Yesterday was the Xbox360 fanboy version, "PS3 Harder to develop on". Today is the PS3 fanboy version, "Ha...
