"Without the retailers, they wouldn't be able to sell their consoles"
There are many retailers which sell consoles but not games. It is merely more convenient that game retailers will sell the console (at almost no profit), Sony/MS could take the hit no problem for the mere $10-20 a large or internet retailer would expect as profit per unit (seeing as they won't necessarily get any game sales where the bulk of the profit is - as will be the case if console games ever...

No, it's funny.

Yeah that's why I said if they wanted to compete against current high-end. They probably won't, they will probably have graphics chips relative to what a 560Ti is capable of thereabouts and another custom memory/cpu configuration (cheaper for loads of identical machines than how PC components have to conform for plug & play). That would leave them with a reasonable amount of loss per console and a fast sales surge due to a low retail price ($300 seems to be the golden number) so g...

Yeah, they should have turned off motion blur before taking screen shots while playing. Makes it look like it has lazy Bethesda PS3 AA.

If they want to compete performance-wise with current high-end PCs I could see the next gen consoles not appearing on the scene until late 2014. If they launch next year MS/Sony would have to take quite a big price hit for them not to cost upwards of ~$800 (assuming they perform relative to a home built $1600 PC), if the production cost doesn't reduce for a substantial time (my the next christmas) games would have to cost upwards of $75 to cover the loss taken on unit console sales (they ...

"PlanetSide 2 is a game that would work extremely well on consoles, so why isn't it available for Sony's PS3?"
Consoles have nowhere near enough RAM. There can be several hundred players clashing at once in Planet Side 2 with full physics and a few hundred audio sources. Next gen consoles will find that a breeze. Graphics wise, next gen consoles will totally kick it's ass and pretty much match the current best looking PC games (lower res and frame rate of course)...

The MP does seem crap compared to Farcry 1, they have clearly made it like CoD on purpose, bigdaddy almost has a point but for the wrong reasons lol.

Everything seems to be shaping up well for FC3. I just hope it feels like FC1 and doesn't have the bad gunplay from FC2.

No, fully alive and kicking. It's had no value for money from day 1 (you already paid your ISP for your bandwidth) but that's got nothing to do with it.

Exactly.

Games probably won't be able to show off great physics and AI at the same time as impressive graphics. I suppose that is fine, the entertainment factor often comes from game design not technical feats.

But with that quantity of RAM and the low bandiwdth, it won't really be able to take full advantage of high detailed textures - but it will be able to calculate smooth shadows and lighting as well as clear AA because they will use the eDRAM for...

Memory bandwidth isn't the issue: graphical resources can be cached in eDRAM (which will be significantly faster than the 360 or PS3's RAM - it's right on the substrate with the CPU and GPU), you can't make direct comparisons to PC hardware there. Think of eDRAM as the equivalent of VMEM in PC graphics cards - except it won't have the capacity to store all the resources at once so they have to be switched a few times each frame (this is where it's heavy on RAM but nowh...

I suspect most people will have bought it already before they would have it ready for Wii-U. It will probably still be profitable for Rockstar/Take2 but they might think differently, at the very least their programmers may be needing to get used to the hardware anyway (and it doesn't seem vastly different from the 360's hardware). I suspect it will eventually release for Wii-U; sales on PC will be better though despite potential piracy.

About the RAM. It might not be slower than the 360 and PS3's, but even if it is:
There is an eDRAM chip situated very close to the CPU and GPU. They can buffer graphics resources in eDRAM and render a range of objects which use them, then load something else into eDRAM and render the objects that use the new data (multiple times in 1 frame). 360 also has an eDRAM chip but it will inevitably be slower and lower capacity (games use it to store the buffer for deferred rendering). Whe...

More of this? Stop just looking at specs and consider the architecture.

It has an eDRAM chip with super fast data rate, which will take developers a little time to engineer for. The quantity of RAM means it doesn't have any creative bottlenecks (so, good games shall come - that's what matters). Graphically, it will be capable of very high res textures if they instance them into the eDRAM (copy from the slower main memory) then access them from there in shaders. And th...

Not really, needs good games.

People seem worried about the performance because they don't know how hardware works, I don't think any of the current games use the eDRAM at all and were hastily made/ported. Honestly, I think it's capable of pushing graphics that can rival current PC games maxed out, of course at a lower resolution than a lot of gaming PCs would pump out with ease - but texture resolutions, shadow quality and general shader quality can be in that re...

Babies playing with mobile phones, toddlers swiping their index fingers across tablets and tweens glued to their portable games consoles are common, everyday occurrences, so it’s not surprising that more and more parents are feeling comfortable about giving their kids access to technology at a relatively young age.”"

MP was the best thing about the original, still brilliant SP though.

No doubt this time they will have put a lot of work into the MP and left the SP dragging behind a little bit (it should still be better than most FPSs these days), no point buying it without dedicated servers unless the single player is unmissable because the MP is destroyed by that alone.
