The holidays are over. The new year has begun. And the Console
Wars have just reached a new low. So, you are sitting there with your
Xbox360, possibly new, and a bevy of games.
There is that nagging section at BestBuy All the movie cases are
smaller and (sacre blu!) blue? It is blu ray and it can't be ignored
anymore.
So why not just pick up a $100.00 Blu-ray player with all that dough
you got from gramma? After all, you already have a gaming system. So,
why toss over another $199.
#1 Firmware.; Most Blu-ray players have an OS that can have a
firmware update. With the PS3 it is simpler. This will be essential
in the decade to come as 3D becomes the new HD.; And if you have been
following the press, this isn't your grandpa's 3D This is something
quite exceptional and yes, the PS3 will be able to play 3D movies via
firmware updates to the console.
#2 Uncharted 2. I know, you are sick of hearing about this Game of
the Year from so many sites.; Yes, you do believe it is a great game
for that other system, yes, it is exclusive...yada yada yada. I think
that the beauty of UC2, isn't in the graphics, controls, etc. It is in
the very simple addition of truly well done hit detection. This isn't
just swinging a punch and connecting in the vicinity of a body area and
then a one size fits all animation that is the "reaction."; When Drake
connects a punch, it lands.; And that is IN GAME!; All the cut scenes
use the games engine.
#3 Blu-ray. Yeah, so what.; You already mentioned it, sorta. I
know. It is an odd thing, but one (a father of two) truly finds
wonderful. The discs don't scratch.; I know. Why wouldn't SONY put
this forward as a major selling point. Oh, I know they scratch if you
take a power tool to them. But, run your fingernails over them. Have
your kids handle them however they like. They don't scratch.; Rub any
smudge marks away with your shirt and viola, no skips, no scratches.
The entire purpose of owning an HDTV is to see HD. (I have a Vizio.)
The movie pictures are incredible. This isn't just a hyped up version
of the DVD. No this is an entirely better experience.
#4 LittleBigPlanet. What would a hardcore gamer want with such a
game? Well, it isn't so much the game (which is amazing and worth your
time) it is the UCC (User Created Content.) This is going to be big,
why not get in on the game that popularized it?; We aren't talking
horse armor here. This is legitimate content made by other users for
your enjoyment for FREE. And it is rated up to 5 stars by other
players, so you know when you are playing something worthwhile. Skate
3 features just such a thing. Build your own content and share it.
The better you are the better it becomes. Expect this to hit the MMO/
RPG world like a storm. (If you played NWNights on your PC, chances
are that you have experienced quality (and not so quality) UCC. But
the universal, all in one place rating system is probably the best.
Oh, and you can play co-op online.
#5 Demon's Souls. So you fancy yourself hardcore? Then here is
your game. I bet you die often.I do. This game is frustratingly
fun. It slays like nothing else. And it is rewarding. This is as
hardcore a game as this generation gets. It is an RPG. Again,
innovation is the key here. You can see other souls in game. Yes. It
is single player, or is it? A blood stain shows you how another person
using the same server died. And that white spirit that just floated
by, well that is someone else playing! And what is with the words on
the ground? Someone left messages. And I can join them?! Yup.</p>
#6 Something, Something, Something Darkside Like Family Guy? Yes, you can dload this, but it is only available on Blu-ray.
#7 Batman Arkham Asylum If you don't already have it, you can get
the best Batman game out. So why PS3? Because you can play as the
Joker! And no it isn't just a gimmick.
#8 MAG.; An RPFPS (Role playing FPS). You create your own
character. You decide on the skin color, hair style and clothing. As
you progress, you chose what weapons you want to improve, or what
skills you want. Realistic firefights (this isn't run and gun and MAG
does it right.) Imagine MW2 with multiple objectives and rewards for
other people from your faction doing well. Oh, and there is that
little 256 people playing at once with no lag thing. (The console wars
have idiots espousing all sorts of misinformation about this.) I
expected lag when I played the Beta. There is none. I even read one
person claiming all the characters were "cookie cutter.
#9 Exclusives (sure this is done to death for both systems).
However, I am just going to list the ones worth looking into for the
PS3. Uncharted 2. 3D Dot Game Heroes. Heavy Rain. Agent. God of War
III. The Last Guardian. Gran Turismo 5. White Knight Chronicles.;
Those are the games I am looking forward to. All of those (sans UC2)
haven't been released yet. I left out the already released ones
because there has already been too much console war arguing over them.
(see Killzone 2 if you don't believe me. Oh, and play it!)
#10 Videos. Yes, we can Tweet, Facebook, and Netflix too. But, we
can also download blu-ray movies. The video store (which gets the
least press) is chock full of movies. And with Netflix streaming...
well it is perfect.
#11 PSN I already pay a Netflix subscription so why pay for it
twice? If you pay attention to the console wars too much you may have
missed out on the impressive improvements to the PSN since launch.
Every time I read a comment bashing it, the players ignorance of the
XMB (cross media bar) and the PSN is quite evident The Xbox has cross
game chat. It is coming to the PS3. It is the only truly superior
facet of Xbox Live that is better. Xbox Arcade? If that is your
thing. I really am not into that type of gaming and I wouldn't want to
pay for it. There is that type of thing in Home, but again, I am
really not into that type of gaming. Demos are available on both for
no charge.
#11A What you might not know about PSN (a sort of debunking the
myths.): In game texts. Video/ Voice Chat (though not cross game as
of yet.) Friends list. Recently played with list (includes game
played). Media (music and movies, pictures). Game invites/ Join
session (as seen in MW2).Lobbies/Matchmaking for instant online
gaming. Multiplayer gameplay, where a user can link up 4 PS3s to play
together, or connect online. Virtual presence/Avatars. Trophies. Block
list. Playstation Store. The XMB is quite well done and is accessible
in game. Themes (some free). In other words: it is just as good as
the NXE but for free.
#12 Let's face it. The console wars are lame...and boring. We get
no trophies/achievements/ rewards for staying with one company. MS and
SONY probably have no idea who you are and inciting a console war only
ads (pun intended) to their popularity and sales Brand loyalty is
silly Expect the PS4 to be backward compatible so bringing your PS3
games along the way isn't a waste of money.
A few years ago, Dredge surprised many with its blend of fishing mechanics and Lovecraftian horror, and fans might want to keep an eye on Out Fishing.
With the Battle of Super Earth bookmarking Helldiver 2's Heart of Democracy, it could be time to take a break and go back to the game's roots.
Dive into the challenges faced by Xbox physical games enthusiasts. Read about the community's vocal response to recent changes.
Speaking for myself... I pretty much stopped buying physical. Unless its some cool collector edition. I find it easier to just buy from the respective eshop.... if its not on a rental service that is.
Going into the 7th gen I was staunchly against the idea of digital game. Even the few PC games I played were physical. It wasn't until digital only games starting catching my eye that I changed my mind. Now I buy mostly digital these days out of convenience but also because I have too many phyical games. SNES, GG, GB, GBA, N64, Dreamcast, DS, 3DS, GCN, Wii, Wii U, PS1-5 and Switch. That's hoarders level of gaming right there. 🤣
Anyway digital sales in several parts of the world, including here in the US have been on the rise. Factor in the Series S being the go two model for Xbox owners it just makes sense for Microsoft to scale back in regards to physical media. That and Xbox published games stay high on PSN. 😆
Unfortunate really since I am an avid collector of physical on Nintendo consoles and I bought Black Ops 6 on disc.
You'll be doing a blog like this for the 360 and Wii as well (if you havne't already).
The truth of the matter is, despite how great a value the PS3 is, there may be people out there that just don't think they need or want one. Perhaps their Wii or 360 offers everything they need for their gaming experience.
No matter which one you prefer, its great to have the ability to play on all 3 if you have the choice. I'd hate to miss out on a game just because its on another console that I don't have. But everyone isn't that fortunate.
So, where is your post for why PS3 players should get a 360? Let me start you off:
* 1080p instant-on streaming is the real deal and it works wonderfully. No, really.
* Award winning online service that works for your money... and stands to lose your money if it sucks. Economic incentive, FTW.
* Netflix that doesn't studder and mis-sync (specifically during South Park in my experience), and is right on the dashboard.
* Arcade... but that's not your thing... but it's big not-your-thing, seeing as how EVERY SINGLE GAME has a demo, something that still can't be said about PSN's downloadable games of the same caliber.
* Indie Games with very risky, but solid gameplay design and innovative concepts. And every game gets a time limited demo. Check out Kodu, the LBP of Xbox.
* Xbox.com where you can browse and send downloads to your xbox. I queue new songs while my wife is singing karaoke on Lips.
* Facebook and Twitter... which really aren't MY thing... I have a computer for that. But Last.fm is awesome for streaming free music.
* The ability to redownload owned videos and games... for free... without begging customer service to grant you another download
And that doesn't even start into the games. Halo 3, Gears, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, and they still have their hands in most 3rd party multiplatform releases.
There are lots of reasons for PS3 users to pick up a 360. Bias shouldn't stop that.
1 - Don't care about 3D
2 - Don't like TPS's
3 - I own a blu-ray player
4 - I have forge
5 - REALLY don't care
6 - http://www.amazon.com/Famil...
7 - Pay $300 for the Joker?
8 - I Don't care
9 - We have exclusives too
10 - We have videos too
11 - Have XBL
Also if you don't get a 'PS3 Owners: Why you should buy a 360' article out their pretty soon, you will look like a fanboy.
Tbh, if you have one of the HD consoles, you really don't need the other one.
Get a Wii, if anything. I myself have spent the past couple of days going through the Metroid Prime Trilogy.
Fun times.
