360 Owners: Why you should buy a PS3.

The holidays are over. The new year has begun. And the Console
Wars have just reached a new low. So, you are sitting there with your
Xbox360, possibly new, and a bevy of games.

There is that nagging section at BestBuy All the movie cases are
smaller and (sacre blu!) blue? It is blu ray and it can't be ignored
anymore.

So why not just pick up a $100.00 Blu-ray player with all that dough
you got from gramma? After all, you already have a gaming system. So,
why toss over another $199.

#1 Firmware.; Most Blu-ray players have an OS that can have a
firmware update. With the PS3 it is simpler. This will be essential
in the decade to come as 3D becomes the new HD.; And if you have been
following the press, this isn't your grandpa's 3D This is something
quite exceptional and yes, the PS3 will be able to play 3D movies via
firmware updates to the console.

#2 Uncharted 2. I know, you are sick of hearing about this Game of
the Year from so many sites.; Yes, you do believe it is a great game
for that other system, yes, it is exclusive...yada yada yada. I think
that the beauty of UC2, isn't in the graphics, controls, etc. It is in
the very simple addition of truly well done hit detection. This isn't
just swinging a punch and connecting in the vicinity of a body area and
then a one size fits all animation that is the "reaction."; When Drake
connects a punch, it lands.; And that is IN GAME!; All the cut scenes
use the games engine.

#3 Blu-ray. Yeah, so what.; You already mentioned it, sorta. I
know. It is an odd thing, but one (a father of two) truly finds
wonderful. The discs don't scratch.; I know. Why wouldn't SONY put
this forward as a major selling point. Oh, I know they scratch if you
take a power tool to them. But, run your fingernails over them. Have
your kids handle them however they like. They don't scratch.; Rub any
smudge marks away with your shirt and viola, no skips, no scratches.
The entire purpose of owning an HDTV is to see HD. (I have a Vizio.)
The movie pictures are incredible. This isn't just a hyped up version
of the DVD. No this is an entirely better experience.

#4 LittleBigPlanet. What would a hardcore gamer want with such a
game? Well, it isn't so much the game (which is amazing and worth your
time) it is the UCC (User Created Content.) This is going to be big,
why not get in on the game that popularized it?; We aren't talking
horse armor here. This is legitimate content made by other users for
your enjoyment for FREE. And it is rated up to 5 stars by other
players, so you know when you are playing something worthwhile. Skate
3 features just such a thing. Build your own content and share it.
The better you are the better it becomes. Expect this to hit the MMO/
RPG world like a storm. (If you played NWNights on your PC, chances
are that you have experienced quality (and not so quality) UCC. But
the universal, all in one place rating system is probably the best.
Oh, and you can play co-op online.

#5 Demon's Souls. So you fancy yourself hardcore? Then here is
your game. I bet you die often.I do. This game is frustratingly
fun. It slays like nothing else. And it is rewarding. This is as
hardcore a game as this generation gets. It is an RPG. Again,
innovation is the key here. You can see other souls in game. Yes. It
is single player, or is it? A blood stain shows you how another person
using the same server died. And that white spirit that just floated
by, well that is someone else playing! And what is with the words on
the ground? Someone left messages. And I can join them?! Yup.</p>
#6 Something, Something, Something Darkside Like Family Guy? Yes, you can dload this, but it is only available on Blu-ray.

#7 Batman Arkham Asylum If you don't already have it, you can get
the best Batman game out. So why PS3? Because you can play as the
Joker! And no it isn't just a gimmick.

#8 MAG.; An RPFPS (Role playing FPS). You create your own
character. You decide on the skin color, hair style and clothing. As
you progress, you chose what weapons you want to improve, or what
skills you want. Realistic firefights (this isn't run and gun and MAG
does it right.) Imagine MW2 with multiple objectives and rewards for
other people from your faction doing well. Oh, and there is that
little 256 people playing at once with no lag thing. (The console wars
have idiots espousing all sorts of misinformation about this.) I
expected lag when I played the Beta. There is none. I even read one
person claiming all the characters were "cookie cutter.

#9 Exclusives (sure this is done to death for both systems).
However, I am just going to list the ones worth looking into for the
PS3. Uncharted 2. 3D Dot Game Heroes. Heavy Rain. Agent. God of War
III. The Last Guardian. Gran Turismo 5. White Knight Chronicles.;
Those are the games I am looking forward to. All of those (sans UC2)
haven't been released yet. I left out the already released ones
because there has already been too much console war arguing over them.
(see Killzone 2 if you don't believe me. Oh, and play it!)

#10 Videos. Yes, we can Tweet, Facebook, and Netflix too. But, we
can also download blu-ray movies. The video store (which gets the
least press) is chock full of movies. And with Netflix streaming...
well it is perfect.

#11 PSN I already pay a Netflix subscription so why pay for it
twice? If you pay attention to the console wars too much you may have
missed out on the impressive improvements to the PSN since launch.
Every time I read a comment bashing it, the players ignorance of the
XMB (cross media bar) and the PSN is quite evident The Xbox has cross
game chat. It is coming to the PS3. It is the only truly superior
facet of Xbox Live that is better. Xbox Arcade? If that is your
thing. I really am not into that type of gaming and I wouldn't want to
pay for it. There is that type of thing in Home, but again, I am
really not into that type of gaming. Demos are available on both for
no charge.

#11A What you might not know about PSN (a sort of debunking the
myths.): In game texts. Video/ Voice Chat (though not cross game as
of yet.) Friends list. Recently played with list (includes game
played). Media (music and movies, pictures). Game invites/ Join
session (as seen in MW2).Lobbies/Matchmaking for instant online
gaming. Multiplayer gameplay, where a user can link up 4 PS3s to play
together, or connect online. Virtual presence/Avatars. Trophies. Block
list. Playstation Store. The XMB is quite well done and is accessible
in game. Themes (some free). In other words: it is just as good as
the NXE but for free.

#12 Let's face it. The console wars are lame...and boring. We get
no trophies/achievements/ rewards for staying with one company. MS and
SONY probably have no idea who you are and inciting a console war only
ads (pun intended) to their popularity and sales Brand loyalty is
silly Expect the PS4 to be backward compatible so bringing your PS3
games along the way isn't a waste of money.

You'll be doing a blog like this for the 360 and Wii as well (if you havne't already).

The truth of the matter is, despite how great a value the PS3 is, there may be people out there that just don't think they need or want one. Perhaps their Wii or 360 offers everything they need for their gaming experience.

No matter which one you prefer, its great to have the ability to play on all 3 if you have the choice. I'd hate to miss out on a game just because its on another console that I don't have. But everyone isn't that fortunate.

Kalowest5640d ago

True, but not everybody can enjoy, every system. At least i can.

Saaking5640d ago

It's pretty simple. If you don't have a PS3 you're gonna miss out on some of this generations top genre defining games (LBP, UC2, GOWIII, GT5, Heavy Rain). If you don't have a 360 you miss out on Halo...and Gears, but nothing too genre defining or important. Of course it's better to have both consoles so you can get the best out of everything (better version of multiplats on the 360, more exclusives on the PS3 etc). But if you have to choose, the PS3 is the way to go.

Another One5639d ago (Edited 5639d ago )

I don't need convincing. I got one for Christmas and of course I love it. Uncharted is a beast. These blogs suck either way. Why should you try to convince someone that they need to buy a different console? You don't gain anything. Oh well, I know none of this is going to get through to anyone. And of course you could be doing this just to do it and not be a rabid fanboy at all. I won't assume either way. I just don't like these kinds of blogs.

Enjoy what you have and if you decide to buy the other system, whichever you don't have, you wont regret the decision.

edgeofblade5640d ago (Edited 5640d ago )

So, where is your post for why PS3 players should get a 360? Let me start you off:

* 1080p instant-on streaming is the real deal and it works wonderfully. No, really.
* Award winning online service that works for your money... and stands to lose your money if it sucks. Economic incentive, FTW.
* Netflix that doesn't studder and mis-sync (specifically during South Park in my experience), and is right on the dashboard.
* Arcade... but that's not your thing... but it's big not-your-thing, seeing as how EVERY SINGLE GAME has a demo, something that still can't be said about PSN's downloadable games of the same caliber.
* Indie Games with very risky, but solid gameplay design and innovative concepts. And every game gets a time limited demo. Check out Kodu, the LBP of Xbox.
* Xbox.com where you can browse and send downloads to your xbox. I queue new songs while my wife is singing karaoke on Lips.
* Facebook and Twitter... which really aren't MY thing... I have a computer for that. But Last.fm is awesome for streaming free music.
* The ability to redownload owned videos and games... for free... without begging customer service to grant you another download

And that doesn't even start into the games. Halo 3, Gears, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, and they still have their hands in most 3rd party multiplatform releases.

There are lots of reasons for PS3 users to pick up a 360. Bias shouldn't stop that.

Jinxstar5640d ago (Edited 5640d ago )

Ok I'll counter you a point at a time.

1. Bluray is better. Rental or bought it's better and with netflix rentals are great.

2. I can't believe your trying to make the fact that they charge you to do what every other system does for free into a good point....

3. Netflix studder and missync? I have yet to experience any at all or have any friends who have had issues. I do have an amazing connection but yeah... And "ZOMG NO DASHBOARD OR XMB ICON = PS3 FAIL".... Really? You put a disc in bro...

4. Wow mandatory Demos... This is a big selling point to you? I mean with reviews, friends to talk to and videos and everything else you think you'd be able to make an educated, grown up choice about spending 10$. I mean do you really need a 20 minute preview before you see a movie or a demo before you buy Halo or Borderlands or something?

5.Indie games huh? Your right PSN doesn't have any of those... No PS1 Classics(FF7 anyone) or street fighter, Braid, Trine, Flower, Super Stardust HD, Flow, Echochrome, Elefunk, Linger in the Shadows, Capcom Classics, Pixel junk series, Tons of things in Home to play and preview... I wont go on but I will say this is probably your most valid point. I did love carcassonne... Great game on XBL I wish were on PSN. I do feel however PSN may have fewer on the whole but quality of many is much much higher... Again like Flower...

6. Xbox.com huh? How about remote play on the PSP... IT EVEN HAS RADIO! THE PSP! I can say a ton of things as well like. UCC which is not allowed by MS. Things like Mods for UT3 on the PS3 but not on the 360... Creating your own questions on Buzz Quiz. Accessing things from my PC like video and pics are easy once set up. My roommate who is a tech geek even installed Linux on his PS3... Lots of options... I'm not too sure how you really are looking at Xbox.com or anything. Playstation .com has a lot of options for messaging and setting up games with your friends for after work and all kinds of stuff.... Oh yeah and it has HOME! Which is more then a gimmick. I go to the theatre at least once a week and check out interviews and previews...

7. Facebook and twitter have been available on the PS3 since day one because IT HAS A BROWSER!

8. Do you know why MS has the DL as much as you want Policy? Because the hardware is always failing. I think they still have a cap. The PS3 has a cap of up to 5 times then you call CS which in my experience are 100 times better then 1800 4-MY-XBOX... When would you really need to DL a game 5 times... Since I upgraded my hard drive to 200 gigs I have not even filled up half of it and I have a lot of games(Oh yeah you can upgrade your hard drive without having to buy the officially approved one. Any companies so long as it's a laptop one pretty much. Great feature BTW)

In the end you mention some games. I had Halo 3, Mass Effect and gears for 360.

Halo I hated. Boring as hell to me. if your a fan then awesome. For the record I hate Metal gear solid and plenty of PS3 games as well that are "Uber cool" Exclusives...

Mass Effect... I wrote a blog on here you may like. Choice in gaming... Might explain my dislike for Bioware. I tried giving them the benefit. I even bought Star Wars:KOTOR because of all the great things I have heard... I hate it... I hate everything Bioware makes... Puts me in a small group but it's true and not cause "It's not on PS3".

Gears. 1st game was fun. Especially split screen co-op with my roommate... Short and I hated the color scheme and some other stuff but overall a great game. The second one though with all it's online issues and everything... Not recommended on my list... The first I may get again one day when it's super cheap for PC with all the extra stuff but yeah... dunno yet.

Left 4 dead I own on PC but the game engine they use (Same as Half life and Portal) Gives me a splitting headache after a few minutes. Which sucks cause I really like it and I spent 100$ getting the whole steam pack with TF2 and all their games like counter strike and I can't play any of them for any amount of time...

Fable 2 would have enticed me more as I have wanted to give it a run but I'm one of the few who thinks it looks neat... Not worth the price of a 360 anymore but yeah... Looks ok... Other then that everything else I want to play is going to PC(I forgot to mention after countless hard drive failures where I lost all my save data, Numerous RROD'd and hellicious customer support I traded in the 360 and upgraded the PC) with superior versions to each... So tell me again why anyone who is in anyway like me would want anything to do with the 360?

The PS3 has more quality exclusives that I want to play and all the features I want. The 360 offers me nothing I want except 1 game that one day will probably make it's way to PC and I only have a slight interest in... Oh and Carcassonne...

Saaking5640d ago

I agree with Jingstar.

@edge of blade
if those are the reasons for buying a 360, I have no idea why anyone would get one.

Hudahudahuda5640d ago (Edited 5640d ago )

I though Halo 3 was kinda boring aswell mainly due to how grindingly sloooooooooooww the gameplay is.

Not a Halo fan yet but i'll still try out Reach.

But I got Gears of War and I like it though I personally feel Uncharted gives a better TPS experience. I will try out the second one. I have to try out mass effect aswell though.

Jinxstar5640d ago (Edited 5640d ago )

Reach may come back as surprisingly good. No clue yet cause we have not seen anything but if Bungies track record holds how it has been I have no expectations for anything worth while.

Seriously though people don't have to agree with me or anything. It's just what I see. Games that support 256 players(360 has yet to prove it can do 1/10th of this...). Games with user generated content like Mod Nation Racers, Blu ray, Free online, Home, Dedicated servers for most 1st party online games(As needed basically), Uniwue experiences like Heavy rain, Flower and TLG which I would never expect from anyone else but sony... The PS3 offers so much more for the little bit extra you 'may' pay... depending on what model you get... I can't possibly be convinced there is any reason to buy a 360... Lacking in games, paying to play and shoddy customer support on a console that fails 1/3 of the time using old tech... to each his own I guess...

kwicksandz5639d ago

If jinxstar is ignorant and anti consumer enough to argue against mandatory demos i think that alone should disqualify all his other arguements.

Having a demo is never a bad thing.

GiantEnemyCrab5639d ago

I'm not going to write an essay here like the used PS3/360 car salesmen here but demo's are a great thing and #5 Jinxster he is talking about Community Games, which PSN has nothing like, I guess the closest would be creating levels and sharing them in a game..

Anyway.. If I was in the market for a console I think you've both convinced me to skip the 360 and PS3 and just stick with a PC.. lol

Jinxstar5639d ago (Edited 5639d ago )

I am in no way against demos. If you got that impression I am sorry. I just don't think they are absolutely needed or anything. I mean we had almost 3 decades of gaming without them and now all of a sudden its an affront if you don't release one with every game? I can read articles and probably have a good enough Idea if I will like it or not... Still not sure what you mean by community games... 1 vs 100 or something?

1 - Don't care about 3D
2 - Don't like TPS's
3 - I own a blu-ray player
4 - I have forge
5 - REALLY don't care
6 - http://www.amazon.com/Famil...
7 - Pay $300 for the Joker?
8 - I Don't care
9 - We have exclusives too
10 - We have videos too
11 - Have XBL

Also if you don't get a 'PS3 Owners: Why you should buy a 360' article out their pretty soon, you will look like a fanboy.

5640d ago
DelbertGrady5639d ago

Generalizing as usual, are we?

Are you just ignorant or do you have no clue at all about the 360's games library? Anyways, I'm not gonna waste energy on you by listing any.

nycredude5639d ago

Sorry but I am sick and tired of all your bickering. It's like a bunch of little girls b1tching and moaning at each other all the time on N4g. Just get both console and stfu already! If you don't like the other console then great stfu also. No one cares if you like the other console or not.

There should be a rule for fanboyism. If you don't own both consoles then you can't talk about the other console! Why? Cause you don't know enough about the other console to talk crap.

That is why, although i disagree with some of giantenemycrab's comments I respect them because he has took the plunge and purchase the Ps3. All you single console owner should stop bashing.

It's like talking about sex when you are a virgin, and have only heard about sex from all your other virgin friends.

Sheesh

Gun_Senshi5638d ago

When someone says X360 Controller > PS3 Controller.

You are really comparing a brick controller VS a controller that won a GRAMMY AWARD.

Wake me up when X360 Controller gets Grammy Award.

PS. X360 has no exclusive, PC verssions are always way better

ASSASSYN 36o5636d ago (Edited 5636d ago )

Nobody will ever wake you up. First of all it was an Emmy award and second the ps3 controller didn't win...it wasn't even nominated! They did win for the dual shock controller. But Xbox-live won the award the in 2005. Does that mean xbox-live is better than psn. In your world it does! :)

Tbh, if you have one of the HD consoles, you really don't need the other one.

Get a Wii, if anything. I myself have spent the past couple of days going through the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Fun times.

nycredude5639d ago

That is NOT true. One console plays blurays the other doesn't so if you have an hdtv then you should get a ps3, as it's the best bluray player out. If you don't have an hdtv, then why game on anything but a Wii? Both consoles output to hd so you should really get an hdtv to enjoy them fully.

Also they both have different exclusives so if you have only one and am interested in the games available for the other you should get it.

Xbox Is Alienating It’s Physical Game Players

If the full game isn’t on disc it’s not any different than a downloaded code.

Vits9h ago

Yep, and that’s been the case for Xbox for at least a decade now.
No doubt they alienated their physical media fans, but that happened way back with the Xbox One. What they’re alienating now are just the box collectors.

ravens5245m ago

Well now that their games are on PS, they are alienating the PS fanbase. I would've gotten Doom had it been on disc. If Gears isn't on disc I won't be getting it either. Same goes for any other 3rd party games.

17h ago
darthv7217h ago

Speaking for myself... I pretty much stopped buying physical. Unless its some cool collector edition. I find it easier to just buy from the respective eshop.... if its not on a rental service that is.

ZeekQuattro16h ago

Going into the 7th gen I was staunchly against the idea of digital game. Even the few PC games I played were physical. It wasn't until digital only games starting catching my eye that I changed my mind. Now I buy mostly digital these days out of convenience but also because I have too many phyical games. SNES, GG, GB, GBA, N64, Dreamcast, DS, 3DS, GCN, Wii, Wii U, PS1-5 and Switch. That's hoarders level of gaming right there. 🤣

Anyway digital sales in several parts of the world, including here in the US have been on the rise. Factor in the Series S being the go two model for Xbox owners it just makes sense for Microsoft to scale back in regards to physical media. That and Xbox published games stay high on PSN. 😆

TheColbertinator13h ago

Unfortunate really since I am an avid collector of physical on Nintendo consoles and I bought Black Ops 6 on disc.
