For anyone who like myself really enjoyed Ryse: Son Of Rome, This is just a short list of things I'd personally like to see if there's a sequel on the way, Because while I don't agree with the amount of negativity the game received I do however admit it wasn't perfect. Marius' tale may be over but there's still plenty of fighting to be had and who doesn't love seeing the Romans in action! The gorgeous armour and disciplined battle formations are enough to get me psyched up to spill some barbarian blood!
The top of my list has got to be as the title of this Blog suggests, Co-op. Ryse is the ideal game for co-op in my opinion, even my very witty title fits the idea perfectly ( You're welcome Crytek feel free to use it ) just imagine playing Ryse but with your buddy there fighting along side you pulling off double team executions. Or during the tactical moments you could each take command of separate units to approach a big fight from different angles or similarly to set up defensive strategy. For example one player could get stuck in with the close combat while the other protects them with an archer unit. All just thoughts off of the top my head but I'm sure someone could come up with far more clever ideas than me but I think the Gladiator multi-player shows that Co-op is easily possible and pretty fun.
Next I have to say I was a little let down that there were no decapitations in a game so violent and gory ( apart from the implied decapitations we see in cut scenes ), so beheading is right up there for me, as well as any other mutilations, possibly bone breaking, and/or executions, this is another thing I feel would apply to the Co-op idea in terms of there being more executions for us to try out as the old ones do get a little tired after a while. My point being in a game that's 98% about killing you have to make it as fun and varied as possible, hell I'd even be happy if my character took of his helmet and bashed a dude's face in!
My favourite moments in the game where during the epic battle moments so a lot more of that please, the more soldiers fighting on screen and things being demolished the better! The immersion of being in the middle of a tense battle is much stronger than wandering around on your own fighting the occasional half dozen chumps every 2 minutes until you get to a boss. The level Born to fire was probably my favourite, leaping out from crashing boats into a rain of catapult fire making your way up an arrow littered beach and storming a fortress to turn the enemy's defensive weapons against them and claim the beach as the first step in
a great, long conquest.( very similar of course to the Normandy landing ) For me it had me hooked through that entire action packed sequence and if Crytek can re-create a moment like that for me I'd happily throw my money at them.
Finally there's just the fact that the story was waaay too short and that definitely needs to be addressed if there is to be a sequel, I'd even say more than twice as long would be the right length of time because Ryse was just too short and there's nobody denying it. And maybe don't rip off the Gladiator movie again just go with something original if possible, Infact if I'm being honest Crytek could even try going to a different era and use the movies 300 or Troy for inspiration. As much as I love the Roman conquest I do love the Spartan stories.
Unfortunately most of my friends haven't gotten any next gen consoles yet so if anyone has any other ( and probably better ) ideas I've overlooked or spotted a problem with any of mine please do leave a comment as I'd love to hear some other opinions about it.
TNS: The Trainfort playtest shows a lot of potential for the survival game and our prefview goes over the best parts.
"Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is a remarkable launch-day port for Nintendo's new console. Its deep, diverse, and tangible world is fully realised with impressive performance for such a low-powered device. If you've not taken your first steps into Night City already, or you're a long-time player with a portable-play itch that needs scratching, you're in for a serious treat, choom." - Alex Olney | NintendoLife
I'm glad I hadn't played it yet. Glad to hear Switch 2 is getting some decent ports. As a handheld game, this sounds amazing. Now, I'm not sure if I'm going to wait for the first sale, or go ahead and dive in. My Switch 2 just arrived an hour ago and I'm going through the System transfer ATM.
Fans have discovered that Nintendo Switch 2 owners can use their phone as a camera with a couple of cheap cables.
I think this time around it would do better without a story, the next ryse should be based on the arena. (6vs6)Multiplayer/ fully customizable characters/ horses with chariots/ lions/tigers ect. If there is a story, let it be centered on the arena.. That way they can focus more on variety of the basic moves. I have yet to see over 100 executions. But I do love this game and the potential of what it can be.
