Over 60 days ago I made a list of my top 7 Xbox 360 games. It's been quite a while and I think it's about time I sat down and decided which PS3 games are my personal favorites. With so many amazing, groundbreaking exclusives this was no easy task. It's taken me over a week to decide my top 10, but I finally did it and here it is.
10. Demon's Soul
Anyone on my friend's list may know that I only have 2% of the trophies for this game. I bought Demon's Soul and I was very impressed. It was challenging and offered some great tactical gameplay; however, I also bough Uncharted 2 at the same time. Yea,not a good combination. Unfortunately, I put Demon's Souls on my shelve and I only recently went back to it. Everything you've heard about this game is true. It's amazing. The dark atmosphere, slow yet entertaining gameplay, and the challenge presented to you all come together to form on of 2009's best games. I'll continue working on it, but I can say that, without a doubt, this game is awesome. I'm only 4 hours in and I can already see what all the praise is about.
9. Valkyria Chronicles
An SRPG with a unique presentation and very well thought out gameplay. Certainly one of the best Japanese RPGs released this generation. It offers a nice story, solid characters, and some very solid mechanics. A great game and certainly a must buy for those who like strategy games.
8. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack In Time
I've played every single Ratchet and Clank game released (with the exception of Secret Agent Clank) and it's a series that hasn't failed me yet. While some may complain that the game feels too similar to it's predecessors, I say that's a good thing. It the gameplay we all know and love. That mixed with great graphics and a entertaining story makes this game a worthy purchase.
7. Resistance: Fall of Man
When the PS3 launched I won't deny that there was lack of good games; however, Resistance made it all worth it. Without a doubt, it was one of the best launch games I've ever played and I had lots of fun with the Co-op and online. I'm sad to see Resistance 2 took a step back, but my anticipation for the next Resistance title has not been diminished.
6. LittleBigPlanet
Back in 2008, LBP was one of the most anticipated PS3 exclusives and I'm glad to say that it did not fail us. In fact, it delivered beyond expectation with it's innovative sharing system. Media Molecule crafted this awesome 2.5D side scroller that allows us to create our own levels and share it with the world. Get a group of four friends, dive into the more than 2 million levels currently available and get ready for hours of fun.
5. Killzone 2
Everyone doubted Guerrilla Games and no one expected that they'd deliver on their promises. While many people hate the sluggish controls, I found them to be quite good. It's offers a great distinction from your typical shooter and makes it's unique. It adds a level of skill to the game not seen in twitchy shooters such as Call of Duty. The story is great and dare I say epic. The characters aren't developed very good, but you it accomplishes what it sets out to do. The cliffhanger ending will leave you wanting for more. Add in the dynamic multiplayer and you got yourself a game which will keep you on it for a long time.
4. Uncharted 2
I can't believe how low in my list UC2, but with so many amazing PS3 exclusives, I really have no choice. UC2 awed us all with it's ground breaking graphics and drew us in with it's thrilling story and gameplay. The addition of online was just brilliant. With a 10 hour+ story that match many of Hollywood's best films, this is a game you won't put down any time soon.
3. Metal Gear Solid 4
The third place was either going to go the MGS4 or UC2. After thinking about it for a while, I decided MGS4 should take the spot. I've been a fan of the MGS series ever since the first one on the PlayStation. It's never ceased to amaze me, and the story has gotten better and better. The gameplay is unlike any other, the story is so fantastic and an amazing close to the series, and the presentation is just unmatched (except by UC2). MGS4 made it above UC2 only becuase I'm a big MGS fan, but it certainly deserves it's place in any PS3 owner's collection.
2. Heavy Rain
I was always interested in this game, but I never (and I emphasize the never) thought that it would be so amazing. After playing Uncharted 2 last year, I really though nothing would be able to top it till God of War 3's release. Boy was I wrong. Heavy Rain delivers a story and characters that make you genuinely emotional. It makes you care about the characters and thus puts a lot more weight on the decisions you make. The gameplay is fun, simple, yet at times challenging. Using only quick time events to portray the action in the game adds even more tension. If you miss one buttons it's all over. With multiple endings, you'll be brought in to play the game over and over. It's everything a great game should be and more. If you're looking for a unique game that pulls you in and doesn't let go, Heavy Rain is for you.
1. God of War 3
Yes, the game has not released yet. I have only played the demo... and yet it's number 1. I love the genre, I've loved the previous three games, I love the gameplay, I love the story, and so everything I've seen points to this game being one of the most epic games of all time. There's no doubt in my mind, God of War III will be my #1 favorite PS3 game when it released on March 16, 2010.
(Honerable Mentions: InFAMOUS, Uncharted DF, Resistance 2, GOW collection, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm)
So that's pretty much it. Yea, I know putting God of War 3 as my number 1 is weird, but I'm certain of my choice. It's funny actually. I had trouble with the 360 list becuase of a lack of exclusives, yet I had trouble with the PS3 list because there's too many. So now I'd like to know what your favorite Ps3 games are. If you want to add me, my PSN ID is HellsWrath2231. Thanks for reading.
MonsterVine: "With painterly visuals and deep tactical systems, Wartorn shows ambition and heart—though its Early Access build still has bugs to squash and balance to refine."
Rematch feels like a vital shot on goal for soccer games after years of stale FIFA titles, standing tall as a worthy champion in the genre.
Battlefield Labs has been updated today with NVIDIA DLSS 4 and other changes. News on the class system is also coming soon.
Your only 4 hours into Demon's Souls? shame on you!
Other then that it's a good list, Heavy Rain and GoW3 i wouldn't know about yet though (need to play them myself to judge fairly).
PS- you might want to proofread it again.
Warhawk. I know it's been out for a long time now, but it provides such a spectacular multiplayer experience. At least for me :)
except for ratchet & clank, Killzone 2, and GOW 3, this pretty much describes the games i desperately want if i had a ps3 ( i have no moneyz though :[ ). Nice list though.
Personally I wouldnt have killzone 2 in there (didnt like it)and gow 3 for obvious reasons but apart from that you got the order pretty much spot on.
I would love to play Demon Souls, but the cost to import it from the US keeps putting me off.
Putting 10 of the best PS3 games must of been hard but good job. I would have had MGS4 at 2, and Heavy Rain at 3 as MGS4 at the time was a great experience.
