I've seen some other people doing their own game of the year lists so I might as well do one of my own. It's been a great year and while many games were pushed back there's no denying that gamers everywhere had a great time. Below, I will list my own personal candidates for GOTY and a short reason why. Enjoy:
Uncharted 2
I think any GOTY list not including UC2 is just fail. UC2 is an amazing game and it redefines games. It's amazing story, presentation, and lovable characters are on par with the bet Hollywood has to offer. Not to mention amazing controls and game play and a super fun multiplayer. UC2 is one of the best games this year.
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Probably the best Batman game I've ever played. It certainly does an amazing job at representing Batman. You feel like you're actually him and the gameplay is just great. There's nothing better than terrorizing your foes with the Dark Knight.
Killzone 2
The graphics in that infamous E3 trailer blew everyone away and many called it "impossible." Well, Guerrilla Games managed to do the impossible and more. While some people complained about the controls, I personally found them breath of fresh air. It's one of the best FPS I've ever played and the online is just great.
Forza 3
I don't own the game, but I have played it extensively. When my friend offered to play it, I was skeptical. I've been a Forza hater these past few months, but I found the game to be really good. Perhaps not as good as GT, but there's no doubt it's one of the best racing sims out there. My only complaint is Turn 10's stupid comments throughout it's development.
Demon's Soul
What an amazing game. It's hard as hell and it's extremely fun and addicting. I couldn't recommend this game unless you're love RPGs and if you do you're in for one of the best experiences ever. From Software surprised us all with this great addition's to the PS3s ever growing catalog. It's certainly one of those hidden gems.
Honerable mentions: Halo 3 ODST, R&C: ACiT, RE5, inFAMOUS, Borderlands.
So those are my candidates for GOTY 2009. I'll go ahead and make my decision toward the end of December. Thanks for reading.
I'm also not fond of Modern Warfare, but there's no doubt it deserves at least a mention!
And Imo GOTY is between Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2, with Uncharted 2 having the upper hand due to the better single player.
I will never read a review from the site that gives Modern warfare 2 GOTY ever again.
Mention? MAYBE.
However i really agree with your list, i would probably add infamous as a front runner but thats me.
Good list but add dragon age on there, and apparently AC2 , everyone that i know that has played AC2 loves it so much.
Uncharted 2: I just beat it a few days ago (haven't played UC1 yet). Holy. ****ing. ****. IF this game doesn't get at least 70% of the GOTY awards, I will lose what little respect I had left for the media.
Batman AA: Haven't played yet. Will do so soon, though.
Killzone 2: It's a first-rate FPS, but I'm not sure if it's GOTY material. I personally preferred Resistance. It's definitely in the top 10, though, and I completely agree about the controls.
Forza 3: Turn 10's arrogance and immaturity make the game seem a lot worse than it really is. The community features (like the storefront and auction house) are great features, and I hope PD will do similar things with GT5. It's pretty deep, but not as deep as GT (it needs more vehicles). But the menus are awful, the loading times are too long, you need a harddrive just to get all of the content, and there are a lot of annoying glitches. It's still much more than a third-rate GT-knockoff, though.
Demon's Souls: Haven't played yet. But I might just have to rent it tomorrow if it's there. I like RPGs, and this game sounds awesome.
My top 5:
Uncharted 2: See above
InFamous: So underrated. The story is great, the graphics are very good, the shooting action across rooftops and city streets is first-rate, the control is pretty much flawless, it has a bit of replay value and there are tons of unlockables to fine. All it's really missing is multiplayer.
Left 4 Dead 2: I've played the demo quite a bit, and I must say I'm impressed. It's not very innovative, and it's a lot like L4D1, but this is still the best co-op shooter on PC/360. It's very well-designed, and blasting dozens of zombies at a time never gets old.
Metroid Prime Trilogy: 3 full games. 30 hours of outstanding FPS. Nothing more needs to be said.
Fifth game: Haven't decided yet.
racing games never win goty
