iPhone and iPod Touch Gaming: Has it Hit?

I'm a firm believer in the iPhone and iPod Touch. I believe them to be amazing personal digital devices that meet my needs for music, communication, and network access. I love being able to use my iPhone to find a store or business in town with just a couple of clicks. I think the user interface is second to none, and represents  whole new generation of mobile phone and device.

What I find more compelling now, as a longtime handheld/mobile gamer on the PSP and DS, is the iPhone's growing library of games. The Apple App Store is an easily accessed way to add fairly inexpensive games to the device I carry with me everywhere.

At first, these games tended to be simple, for a mobile market. Games like LED Football, Tetris and Scrabble clones, and the like recreated the quick, easy cellphone type of game. Mostly created by independent developers, these games provide a quick escape from standing in line, riding the bus, or other such activities.

These days, we're seeing more and more games on this class of device that have increasing depth and quality. There are racing games like Asphalt 4 that rival games on the PSP for graphics and depth of gameplay. Games like deBlob fill a DS niche like nothing before it. No longer are games simple time wasters, but proper games in their own right.

I don't believe that the PSP and DS are doomed, just yet. Having a dedicated gaming device is just too nice, and real live buttons go a long way toward longer gaming sessions. However, I do believe that the iPhone is a gaming device, as well as a phone and media device.

The iPhone is a proper gaming device. I can't wait to see what comes out next.

I just wish it had a better ram, I'm sure devs will optimize their games around it but whenever I try to open a PDF file it resets and I found this to be a common issue around the net, it also happens if I’m browsing the album artworks (which I have allot).

iPhone is to me the ultimate portable gaming device, at least in potential. Why? It is the ultimate fusion of the DS and PSP and a lot more. I am loving Star Wars Unleashed and Spore and I look forward to play a lot more games on it. Besides, it also has a lot more non-games than the DS. Who knows, it might eventually get a port of FF Agito XIII? I'd love that.

Totally agree, man. I don't carry my DS and PSP around with me everywhere I go. I do, however, carry my iPhone around. Everywhere. It's ubiquitous gaming, right up there with ubiquitous data access. Best. Device. Ever.

for 2 weeks to date and its the best dhone I have ever owned including the Sidekick:LX. Its so functional and adverse and can handle all the task I need and even ones that i dont need. I think the IGN review app is awsome! and Pandora Rox!

As far as games go, I have tap tap revenge which is lind of cool. I have Labyrinth Lite which blew me away in terms of how well the physics and controls are implemented and it looks and sounds nice as well.

I havent had the balls to ACTUALLY buy any game for it yet because I have never been that into phone games but having the 3G and seeing how well some of these games I have look, control, and how neatly presented they are... I might have to change my tune and look deeper into games on the iphone.

Any reccomendations fellas?
