GDC 2008: My impressions, and games I played.

GDC 2008: Things that rocked and things that pissed me off.

- SSB Brawl was playable, on multiple kiosks, but the wait was over an hour (what gives?), the game looks beautiful and the roster is well suited, even the newly added King DeeDee from the Kirby franchise is a good fit in the new levels.

- IGN had reported that both Street Fighter 4 and Sony's PSP version of fl0w were playable on the show floor, neither one was, very unusual and to be honest quite ridiculous.

- Bioshock swept the 6th annual Audio G.A.N.G awards, earning everything from Audio Of The Year, to Best Cinematic Cutscene, and Soundtrack Of The Year. Was quite a night for 2K games. Halo 3 took best use of surround sound.

-GT5 HD was fully playable with force feedback seats, which had (at least to me) a new feature; upon braking or turning sharply the seat would move and twist. Sometimes I forgot I was playing a game it was so incredible!

-Microsoft had a strong showing in the career seminar, handing out free memory units like they were pieces of candy, and they had a huge amount of XNA titles on display, the most incredible of which included a teleporting ninja in a hand drawn style with more more blood than Kill Bill Vol 1, look for it later this year.

-Bionic Commando was on show (the PC build), the creators confirmed that South Paw (or "thumbstick-switching") is not yet built into the game, nor were they aware it was being asked for in the community (Don't worry, fellow lefties, I told them how it is). The game was in completely playable form, but they wouldn't let you play it, they just sat their playing it and denied anyone who asked.

-God Of War Chains Of Olympus was done and fully playable, the controls and the soundtrack are both what you'd expect from a GOW epic, and it fits perfectly on the PSP.

I think that about wraps up my coverage of GDC. I have tickets tonite to go see Video Games Live but I'm feeling sick-ish, I may pass on it.

Anyone want to buy them? :)
